πΌSeptember 1966, 55 years ago... every song (famous or not) has a great story behind it! There are songs, especially Rock, that soon have become legendary π€ That's the case of a classic rock standard, Hey Joe.
Tim Rose, American singer songwriter born Timothy Alan Patrick Rose in New York, US on 23 September 1940, moved to London, UK in the 60s and in 1966 recorded his version of Hey Joe, claiming it was a traditional folk song he heard when he was a child. #HeyJoe was in fact first recorded by Billy Roberts in 1962 for copyright reasons, he always denied it being a traditional, he wrote it instead, but still today noone knows who originally penned it: Hey Joe is classified as a Public Domain song.
The legend went on in September 1966 when a young talented #guitarist called Jimi Hendrix moved to London from the US: one night Jimi met Chas Chandler (bassist of #TheAnimals) and Linda Keith (at the time #KeithRichards girlfriend): they both had just attended a Tim Rose concert and they sang Hey Joe to Jimi Hendrix. Jimi fell in love with the song, he soon re-arranged it and at the end of 1966 it was released as his first single, which immediately peaked US and UK charts... that's why we all think Hey Joe is a song by #JimiHendrix!!!
Hey Joe is the last song played at #Woodstock festival πΈπ₯

Billy Roberts "Hey Joe"- first ever recording 1961/62
This is the very first recording of the song "Hey Joe", ever made. Is is a home demo recording by the song's writer, Billy Roberts. The song has a long and complicated history regarding it's authorship, but this is the absolute first version ever recordedβ¦
