🎼 Who called it Rock'n'Roll?

In July 1951 a radio Disc Jockey named Alan Freed began his nightly "Moondog Show" in Cleveland, Ohio. He played mainly rhythm & blues hits by black artists, jazz and western swing by white artists, and his audience grew instantly among both white and black young people.
Freed eventually called this crossover of musical styles "Rock and Roll", probably taking the expression from 👉 songs lyrics where the words "rocking" and "rolling" were often used.

In Spring 1952 he managed to organize a music festival in his hometown headlined by Paul "Hucklebuck" Williams: this is considered the very first arena Rock'n'Roll concert and gained much popularity to Alan Freed, who in 1954 moved to New York City to start his succesful nationwide radio program "Rock and Roll Party"!

#AlanFreed is one of the few non musicians inducted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame, for being so important and passionate in spreading Rock'n'Roll music all over USA. Legend 🤟❤️‍🔥
🎼🎸🎷21 March 1952. Exactly 70 years ago, a date to remember in Cleveland, Ohio!
A guy called Alan Freed, who was already famous among both black and white youth for his radio program The Moondog Show, managed to organize what is widely considered the first Rock'n'Roll arena concert ever 🤟👏
The concert featured music that Freed used to play in his radio show, performed "in person" by the artists as the above poster says 📜☝️

The Moondog Coronation Ball lasted only for few songs for security reasons: more than 20.000 youngsters gathered in a place which could fit 10.000 😳
I guess many of us need to thank Mr. Freed 👍🔥
