French banking giant Crédit Mutuel Arkéa has resumed operations following a massive cyberattack that resulted in the theft of over $133 million. The bank confirmed that attackers gained access through a third-party service provider rather than its direct banking systems.
While customer funds remain safe, the attackers successfully transferred the bank's own capital to various financial institutions. These funds were then moved to crypto exchanges including Kraken, Crypto.com, and OKX to be converted into digital assets.
On-chain investigator ZachXBT initially flagged $106 million in suspicious activity before raising the estimate to $133 million. Blockchain analytics firm Bitquery also traced the movement of funds across multiple platforms, exposing the theft.
