In Shitoryu, Rohai Sandan of Master Anko Itosu contains an important application using Sukui Uke, the scooping block. After receiving and controlling the opponent’s attack with Sukui Uke, you immediately pull the opponent inward and downward. This action breaks the opponent’s balance and creates the opportunity to throw or take them to the ground. The key point is continuous movement. Sukui Uke is not only a block. It becomes the entry for control, kuzushi, and takedown.
