Sam Thomas may just be your local English teacher with stars in his eyes and a dream in his heart, but he appears destined for greatness having been a stalwart of the Phnom Penh comedy scene for the past 7 years.
Sam was among the top finalist at the Bangkok Comedy Competition in the year 2015 and 2018, and made it to the finals at the 2017 Hong Kong International Comedy Festival. He has giggled extensively across Cambodia and other countries, including in Saigon, Hanoi, Bangkok, Yangon, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hong Kong and Jakarta, as well as in New York City and Boston.
Sam is also the founder of Volunteer Comedian, a weekly show which raised funds for a local children's charity. He currently produces and hosts Lockdown Clowns, a weekly live-streamed open mic featuring comics from Cambodia and beyond, which he started in May 2020.

😂 “They say laughter is the best medicine—so I figured, why not prescribe an overdose?” 😂

Last night at Rosebank Toastmasters, I had the absolute pleasure of delivering my keynote on “Creating Humorous Speeches”—and let me tell you, the energy in the (virtual) room was electric! ⚡

When I started my journey in public speaking, I never imagined I’d one day be teaching others how to craft jokes, deliver punchlines, and make audiences laugh on cue. But here we are—laughing, learning, and maybe even plotting our first stand-up comedy set. 🎤😆

One of my favorite moments? Seeing Toastmasters members and comedians alike light up as they realized humor isn’t just about telling jokes—it’s about connection, timing, and, occasionally, surviving that one awkward silence when a punchline doesn’t land. (Don’t worry, it builds character! 😅)

A huge thank you to Rosebank Toastmasters for having me! Your warmth, enthusiasm, and willingness to embrace the funny made this an unforgettable experience. If you haven’t yet tried Toastmasters—or better yet, stand-up comedy—consider this your sign! I promise, the stage has a way of surprising you.
