The idea that skinny people have fast metabolisms is a myth. Metabolism depends largely on muscle massโ€”more muscle means higher energy use. Skinny people usually have less muscle, so their metabolism is often slower. Weight and appearance donโ€™t reliably show metabolism speed.

Australiaโ€™s first cops were (former) criminals themselves. In 1789, Governor Arthur Phillip formed the Night Watch, a civilian police force made up of 12 of the most well-behaved convicts. Despite their past, these men were entrusted with keeping law and order in Sydney Town, New South Wales. This unusual beginning laid the groundwork for Australiaโ€™s formal police system.

2-nonenal is the compound that makes people smell different from age 40 and up.
It's not because of food or personal hygiene.

One theory is that the smell is an indication if someone is a suitable partner or not.

The only thing you can do against it is gently wash yourself daily and get fresh clothes and bedding regularly.

2-Nonenal is an unsaturated aldehyde. The colorless liquid is an important aroma component of aged beer and buckwheat, and is insoluble in water.

Today (in North America) is Indigenous Peoplesโ€™ Day,
In honors to the diversity, history and different cultures of the Indigenous peoples of the United States, including Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian communities.

The holiday was already suggested in the 1970s as a counter-celebration to Columbus Day, which remembers Christopher Columbusโ€™s landing in the Caribbean on October 12, 1492, and the beginning of Western colonialism in the Americas.

Since that time, a number of states have begun to observe Indigenous Peoplesโ€™ Day, and in 2021 U.S. president Joe Biden became the first U.S. president to officially recognize the holiday.

After the British deposed her husband, she took control of Awadh and ruled as regent for her young son.

She organized armies, directed strategy, and coordinated resistance across the region.

She did not fight on the battlefield herself, but her decisions shaped the revolt.

After defeat, she fled to Nepal and lived in exile until her death around 1879.

She is remembered for her courage, leadership, and role in resisting British rule.

A strange belief in Russia is to avoid whistling indoors. According to belief, doing so will "whistle away" your money, leaving you broke. This superstition likely originates from old folk traditions that associated whistling with mischievous spirits that could bring bad luck.

Partible paternity is the belief that a child can have multiple biological fathers, accepted in some South American cultures like the Bari and Tapirape.

Multiple men who have sexual relations with the mother during pregnancy share paternal responsibility.

This practice is linked to increased child survival rates due to shared resources.

It contrasts with the Western model of a single biological paternity.

Space must be used for peaceful purposes only.

No weapons of mass destruction are allowed in space.

Countries are responsible for what their space missions do.

Why can a relationship feel more exciting when it is forbidden?

Psychologists sometimes explain this through reactance theory:
When people feel their freedom to choose is restricted, they may desire the restricted option more strongly.

A relationship opposed by family, society, or authority can therefore feel more appealing precisely because it is off-limits.

Scarcity and secrecy may also intensify attraction by making the relationship seem rarer or more emotionally charged.

However, forbidden relationships do not automatically produce stronger or more lasting love. ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ”’

Have you ever felt embarrassed about something and assumed everyone noticed?

Psychologists call this the spotlight effect โ€” our tendency to overestimate how much other people notice our appearance, mistakes, or behaviour.

In a 2000 experiment, researchers asked students to wear an embarrassing Barry Manilow T-shirt into a room of other students.

Those wearing the shirt estimated that far more people would notice it than actually did.

Most people are too occupied with their own thoughts to pay as much attention to us as we imagine.
