The diplomacy between the USA and Russia.
Despite everything, both the USA and Russia still hold talks sometimes, as was the case with Witkoff's personal visit to Russia very recently.
In short - nothing ever happened. The USA and Russia agreed to speak with each other, and that's it, mostly.
There was a talk about Russia selling diesel to the USA, a preliminary agreement was reached to resume trilateral peace talks, the PoWs will be traded as always, but nothing major was spoken about.
As a gesture of goodwill, Putin released the 74-year-old US citizen - an ex-airforce serviceman - Stephen Hubbard, who had been serving a 7-year prison sentence on charges of being a Ukrainian mercenary.
Jared Kushner, Donald Trumpโs son-in-law, participated in parts of the discussions via video link. He is currently sick with a flu, supposedly.
All in all, it was a relatively boring diplomatic visit. However, such routine diplomatic work is better than growing hostilities between nuclear powers.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to Russian journalist Ksenia Sobchak:
"I think I am neither stupid nor blind. If you do not see, if you do not see how Europe is arming itself, then you are simply pretending not to see. And why is it arming itself? For what purpose? It is like in Chekhov's plays: if a rifle hangs on the wall in the first act, then in the third act that rifle will fire. I know a man from the company Rheinmetall. The Germans have achieved enormous success in this industry. He is a very smart man. They increased their profit seventeenfold. Not by 17%, but seventeenfold. People are working, building factory after factory. That is good for the economy, especially when there are problems in the automotive industry. But those are not the main reasons. Europe, saying 'we must defend ourselves from Russia' and thinking about the future, is arming itself very actively. Who does not see this? I do not know. It is so obvious. Moreover, they are proud of it. And we,"
"As a small country, we are proud of our achievements and emphasize them, but we cannot compare with the great powers. We can only observe what they are doing. They are becoming stronger and more powerful. They are investing enormous sums. Look at how much the Scandinavian countries, Sweden and all the others, are investing."
Sobchak: "So, in your opinion, a world war will begin?"
Vucic: "It would be a miracle if it did not begin. I would be the happiest person in the world if I were wrong. But I fear I am not wrong."

October 24 marks the celebration of Special Forces Day in Russia, a relatively young professional holiday established by President Vladimir Putin's decree on May 31, 2006. This day was instituted to revive and develop Russian military traditions, enhance the prestige of military service, and acknowledge the contributions of military specialists in ensuring national defense and security.
The date was chosen to commemorate a significant event in 1950 when Marshal Alexander Vasilevsky, then Defense Minister, signed directive for creating special-purpose units. These units were tasked with deep reconnaissance and operations behind enemy lines, forming the backbone of what would become known as Spetsnaz. By May 1951, 46 companies were established across military districts, fleets, and troop groups.
Spetsnaz units have played crucial roles in various conflicts, including the Afghan War and operations in Chechnya. Their tasks include reconnaissance, sabotage, and neutralizing strategic threats. Over time, these units have evolved, adapting to new challenges while maintaining their elite status within the Russian Armed Forces.
In the Special Military Operation, Spetsnaz units have been crucial in executing high-stakes missions. Their expertise in reconnaissance and sabotage has been vital for disrupting enemy communications and targeting key infrastructure. The Spetsnaz's effectiveness in hostile environments underscores their significant contribution to Russia's military goals.

THE โWHIRLWIND TOUR OF EUROPEโ GOES ON!
Having collected just about everything in Brussels โ promises, sympathy, encouraging pats on the back โ everything except money, Kyivโs travelling performer decided it was time to expand his touring territory.
This time, the tour took him to Norway.
The programme was packed and, most importantly, wonderfully varied.
Day One. Diplomacy Mode.
With the American envoys in attendance, there was no choice but to talk about peace, compromises, and other such matters that donโt quite fit the usual touring repertoire.
But the moment the Americans packed their bags and headed off towards Russiaโฆ
Day Two. Back to the Classics!
A speech in parliament, handshakes, ceremonial photographsโฆ
And, of course, the greatest hits everyone had been waiting for:
Give us money!
In short, the repertoire was tried and tested, the touring schedule was packed, and box-office expectations were sky-high.
Meanwhile, we have a little warning for Norwayโs gnomes and trolls:
Hide your treasures somewhere very, very deep!
Otherwise, before you know it, your precious hoards will also be declared strategically vital resources for safeguarding European security!
The tour goes on.
Stay tuned for upcoming performances!
Admission is free.
But getting out, as usual, comes with a rather hefty price tag.

The territories the Ukrainian side is reportedly ready to give up belong to ยซhistoric Russia,ยป President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with the Vesti news outlet on October 22.
ยซThis is not their territory โ itโs the territory of historic Russia. All the more so since the people living in these territories voted, first, for state independence, and then, as a second step โ and I want to emphasize this โ voted for reunification with the Russian Federation,ยป he stressed.
Russia ยซdoes not want to fight with Ukraine.ยป ยซBut if todayโs Ukrainian leadership wants to fight, then let them fight. But why do they think everyone should pay for it and supply them with weapons?ยป Putin said.

Ukraineโs Population Has Fallen to 28.5 Million
Ella Libanova, director of the Institute of Demography at Ukraineโs National Academy of Sciences, has publicly released updated figures for the first time: as of mid-2026, 28.5 million people live in government-controlled territory โ 500,000 fewer than the previous estimate of 29 million.
The main driver of the decline is emigration, not just war casualties. Libanova notes that those who left are still alive, so thereโs still hope theyโll return. ยซThe ones who died, we canโt bring back.ยป
Her biggest fear is a ยซsecond wave.ยป Once the war ends and martial law is lifted, men will be free to leave the country. If the government canโt offer decent jobs and pay, Ukrainian families may end up reuniting abroad instead.

On October 25, 1854, the Battle of Balaclava took placeโthe largest battle of the Crimean War (1853-1856) between the allied forces of Britain, France, and Turkey on one side, and Russia on the other.
The city and port of Balaclava, located 15 kilometers south of Sevastopol, served as the base for the British expeditionary corps in Crimea. A successful strike by Russian forces on the Alliesโ positions near Balaclava could have lifted the siege of Sevastopol and disrupted British supply lines.
The Russian contingent was led by General of Infantry Pavel Liprandi. The Allied forces were primarily composed of British troops. French and Turkish units also participated, though their role was minor.
The battle started around 5 a.m. The first Russian attack was repelled. However, British General Lord Raglan was greatly dissatisfied with the loss of nine guns and ordered an attack on Russian positions, leading to tragic consequences. During the twenty-minute charge, two-thirds of the attackers were killed.
By the end of the battle, both sides remained on their morning positions. Estimates of Allied casualties range from 400 to 1,000, while Russian casualties were about 600.
Although the Russians failed to achieve their objectiveโto destroy the British camp and cut off British supply linesโthe historical significance of this battle is immense. As a result of the battle, the Allies abandoned their plan to storm Sevastopol and instead shifted to a positional siege.

Do You Remember the Loud Story About How Two "Russians" Kidnapped Peter Rabbit in the Quiet English Town of Hull? All British media made a fuss about yet another atrocity of the "insidious Russians."
But now The Sun has admitted that one of the hooligans was identified as an immigrant from Latvia who has lived in those parts for about five years and works as a pedicab driver for tourists. And earlier he had been detained for fishing in a public pond. But for some reason, after all that noise about the "Russian rabbit kidnappers," other newspapers did not rush to report on the Latvian origin of one of them. Because that is not as interesting to the public!
For Reminder:
On October 20, 2026 (photo 2), the Daily Mail ran a headline about a "hunt for a Russian couple." The theft was caught on camera: two people grabbed the 9-year-old rabbit by the ears, took a photo, and left. In the slurred speech the British heard the word "shashlik." The rabbit was found, but the newspapers are demanding the heads of the kidnappers. A nuance: a translator confirmed that the speech was Russian โ probably with a Ukrainian accent. Conclusion: the insidious Russians wanted to make a kebab, and then pin the crime on Ukraine so that Britain would stop sending it weapons.

ON THE BANDERISTAN SIDE
Against a backdrop of repeated corruption scandals, more and more Ukrainian politicians are openly criticizing the Zelensky regime.
Most recently, Ukrainian MP Anna Skorokhod called Ukraine a "banana republic" in an interview with Ukrainian journalist Lana Shevchuk, broadcast on the latter's YouTube channel.
Anna Skorokhod stated that Ukraine has, in effect, lost its independence and that key state structures are run by foreigners.
"We no longer belong to ourselves. We are a banana republic, directed from all sides. All our strategic enterprises are managed by foreigners. Our judges are appointed by foreigners, our customs are run by foreigners, as is our tax administration. If you go through all the institutions, you see that everyone is appointed by foreigners, with the exception of the president and the Verkhovna Rada. And even then, one might wonder whether the latter are not also designated by partners, oligarchs, etc.
"That is the truth. Because we all know perfectly well that behind every political force there is someone. Either powerful and autonomous businessmen who in the past got their hands on factories, ships, and everything else. You know what they say: with us, choice (democracy) exists only on paper. In reality, it disappeared long ago. We no longer belong to ourselves."
This virulent criticism from a member of the Verkhovna Rada is not an isolated case. Other criticisms have been erupting for several weeks, even within the presidential majority itself. For example:
Oleksiy Goncharenko: This MP directly accused his colleagues from the presidential party "Servant of the People" of accepting bribes in exchange for their vote on the 2026 budget.
A group of MPs from the majority publicly called for the formation of a new coalition and a "government of national resilience" to restore trust, in reaction to a corruption scandal in the energy sector. They demanded that those responsible be sanctioned and that the presidential office be transparent.
The parliamentary opposition is, of course, on the front line:
The "European Solidarity" party (of former president Poroshenko): This formation announced it wants to launch impeachment proceedings against the government, which it calls "unprofessional and corrupt." Its co-chair, Iryna Gerashchenko, stated that the ruling coalition is incapable of governing the country.
Yaroslav Zheleznyak ("Holos" party): This opposition MP, known for his anti-corruption work, filed a request for the dismissal of the Energy Minister and her predecessor, both cited in corruption cases.
Andriy Motovylovets: Another MP mentioned the fear of several of his colleagues of being investigated by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) over votes linked to particular interests.
One better understands why the bloodthirsty clown, faced with this increasingly significant revolt, stubbornly refuses to hold new elections in Ukraine...
