Meanwhile in Ukraine, the situation for the most sponsored army in the world (after Israel) isn't getting better. Apparently the Ukrainian government decided to let the infamous Ukrainian regiment Azov - known mostly for their war crimes and "national-social" symbols and phrases - to get the Ternopil region, and recruit the locals how the Azov men see fit. The Azov "recruiters" used their new job as a side-gig for banditry against the locals. This news was reported by both the Russian and the Ukrainian sides in 2025. The Russian side had a field day writing articles about, obviously.

The Azov regiment isn't new - it existed since 2014, initially as a typical nazi larp group with criminal intensions. They were initially used as hired muscles in the wars between Ukrainian oligarchs. With time their influence - and boldness - grew, they entered the political life of Ukraine, conducted recruitment of kids in their ranks in special summer camps. They mostly taught the kids useless tacticool exercises, and how Hitler did nothing wrong and he actually loved and respected Ukrainians very much - and he would totally let Ukrainians be independent after the victory over the USSR, and Ukraine would be allowed to take back the lost territories from Russia. The Azov were allowed to exist, despite the claims that "there is no fascism in Ukraine", and they were allowed to join the Ukrainian army and national guard.

Even after their defeat in the city of Mariupol, the Azov regiment is still alive, it keeps waving their "totally not nazi" flags and shout their "totally not nazi" slogals all over the Internet. Oddly enough, a kosher Ukrainian billionaire Kolomoysky used to sponsor them up until recently. And the most famous Ukrainian president of kosher origin, Zelensky, still allows the Azov regiment to do whatever they want. Reality can be puzzling sometimes.

UAE businessman Khalaf Ahmad Al Khabtoor has published an open letter to US President Donald Trump

His Excellency President Donald Trump,

A direct question: Who gave you the authority to drag our region into a war with #Iran? And on what basis did you make this dangerous decision?

Did you calculate the collateral damage before pulling the trigger? And did you consider that the first to suffer from this escalation will be the countries of the region itself!

The people of this region have the right to ask as well: Was this your decision alone? Or did it come as a result of pressures from #Netanyahu and his government?

You have placed the countries of the #GulfCooperationCouncil and the Arab countries at the heart of a danger they did not choose. Thank God, we are strong and capable of defending ourselves, and we have armies and defenses that protect our homelands, but the question remains: Who gave you permission to turn our region into a battlefield?

For before the ink has dried on the #BoardOfPeace initiative that you announced in the name of peace and stability, we find ourselves facing a military escalation that endangers the entire region. So where did those initiatives go? And what is the fate of the commitments made in the name of peace?

Most of the funding proposed in those initiatives came from the countries of the region themselves, and from Arab Gulf countries that contributed billions of dollars on the basis of supporting stability and development. And these countries have the right to ask today: Where did this money go? And are we funding peace initiatives or funding a war that exposes us to danger?

More dangerous than that, your decision does not threaten only the peoples of the region, but also reaches the American people whom you promised peace and prosperity. And here they are today, finding themselves in a war funded from their money and taxes, with costs ranging, according to the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS), between 40-65 billion dollars for direct military operations, and could reach 210 billion dollars including economic impacts and indirect losses if it lasts four to five weeks, not to mention the sacrifice of Americans themselves in a war in which they have neither camel nor she-camel.

You have even broken your promises not to get involved in wars and to focus only on America and put it at the top of your priorities, as you ordered foreign military interventions during your second term that included seven countries: Somalia, Iraq, Yemen, Nigeria, Syria, Iran, and Venezuela, in addition to naval operations in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific Ocean. You directed more than 658 foreign airstrikes in your first year in office, which equals the total strikes in Biden's entire term, for which you directed your arrows of criticism for involving the United States in foreign wars.

Your Excellency the President, these numbers have severely reflected on your approval ratings among Americans, which have declined since your inauguration for the second term, by about 9% in just 400 days.

These numbers say something clear: Even within #TheUnitedStates, there is growing concern about being dragged into a new war, and about exposing the lives of Americans, their economy, and their future to unnecessary risks.

True leadership is not measured by war decisions, but by wisdom, respect for others, and pushing toward achieving peace. And if these initiatives were launched in the name of peace, then we have the right today to demand full transparency and clear accountability the authority to drag our region into a war with #Iran? And on what basis did you make this dangerous decision?

Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has practically come to a halt: the chart above shows activity over the past 24 hours.

It clearly indicates that very few vessels are willing to pass through the strait, and those that do manage to transit are doing so with their transponders switched off to avoid revealing the ship’s location.

It is worth reiterating that a significant share of crude oil and petroleum products shipments from Middle Eastern countries passes through this strait. As a result, any reduction in shipping activity in this area immediately affects the global energy market.

On March 7, 1960, the USSR formed its first cosmonaut squad.

Following the successful launches of artificial Earth satellites and spacecraft carrying living organisms, scientists led by Sergey Korolev began tackling the challenge of manned spaceflight.

In January 1959, the Central Committee of the CPSU and the Council of Ministers of the USSR issued a decree on the medical selection of cosmonaut candidates, followed by another in May on preparing humans for space travel.

Candidates for the first cosmonaut squad were chosen from pilots who met strict criteria: under 35 years old, no taller than 175 cm, weighing no more than 75 kg, and in excellent health.

The selection process began in August 1959. Over 3,000 medical records were reviewed, and only 347 candidates were invited for interviews. After rigorous testing, 20 finalists remained.

On March 7, 1960, the first cosmonaut squad (officially called the 1960 Air Force Group No. 1) was formed, consisting of 12 men: Ivan Anikeyev, Valery Bykovsky, Boris Volynov, Yuri Gagarin, Viktor Gorbatko, Vladimir Komarov, Alexey Leonov, Grigory Nelyubov, Andriyan Nikolayev, Pavel Popovich, German Titov, and Georgy Shonin. Later, additional members were added: Yevgeny Khrunov, Dmitry Zaikin, Valentin Filatyev, Pavel Belyayev, Mars Rafikov, Valentin Bondarenko, Valentin Varlamov, and Anatoly Kartashov.

On April 12, 1961, Yuri Gagarin became the first human in space. His backup was German Titov, while Grigory Nelyubov served as the reserve cosmonaut.

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said neighbouring countries will no longer be targeted unless an attack originates from there

Pezeshkian said the Iranian interim leadership council approved the motion to stop attacks on neighbouring nations. In remarks carried by Iranian media, the president also apologised to neighbouring countries for the strikes that took place in recent days.

Trump issued a maximalist position on Friday to Iran demanding “unconditional surrender”, but Pezeshkian baulked at the comments.

“That we surrender unconditionally is a dream that they must take with themselves to the grave. What we adhere to are international laws and humanitarian frameworks,” he said.

Pezeshkian later clarified on X that Iran hadn’t in fact attacked any of its neighbours but rather “targeted US military bases, facilities, and installations in the region”.

Tehran’s commitment to good relations with its neighbours, he said, “does not negate Iran’s inherent right to defend itself against military aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime”.

Pezeshkian’s message is overshadowed by the Revolutionary Guard’s dominance, said Al Jazeera’s Resul Serdar.

“Political figures in Iran are responsible for running state affairs and ‘non-strategic’ affairs. But when it comes to strategic affairs, such as the country’s foreign and security policies, politicians don’t have a say including the president, who, according to the constitution, is the number two in charge – this is a very well-known fact in Iran,” Serdar said.

The centre of power lies with the office of the supreme leader and with the IRGC, even during peacetime, he added.

Now that the country faces what it sees as a war of survival, Pezeshkian is not in a position to stop any attack, and his message to regional countries carries no weight, Serdar said.

“The IRGC is now in charge fully, and they will decide whether to attack or not,” Serdar said, adding that IRGC chief, Ahmad Vahidi, is considered one of the “most radical commanders” of the group since its foundation.

“I don’t think Pezeshkian or other politicians will have any influence when it comes to security politics,” he added.

International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8, is not a uniquely Russian holiday, but it has become one of the most beloved occasions in the country. Originally established in the early 20th century, this day has evolved into a cherished tradition in Russia, honoring women and their roles within families and society.

In Russia, March 8 is a public holiday and is seen as a day to celebrate women’s beauty and contributions to daily life. The day is marked by a festive atmosphere, with families, friends, and colleagues coming together to show their appreciation.

One of the most important aspects of March 8 is giving gifts to the women in one’s life. Popular choices include bouquets of flowers (mimosas being a classic favorite), chocolates, and perfumes. Men often go out of their way to make the women they care about feel special on this day.

Families gather to honor mothers, grandmothers, sisters, and daughters. Meals are prepared at home or enjoyed at restaurants, with men frequently taking on cooking duties to give women a break from their usual responsibilities. In workplaces across Russia, March 8 is celebrated with small parties or gatherings the day before the holiday, where female employees are often presented with flowers or small tokens of appreciation by their male colleagues.

Since International Women’s Day is an official public holiday in Russia, many people use the time to relax or spend quality time with loved ones. It is one of the most anticipated holidays of the year for both men and women alike.

Below is a summary of a Washington Post article published on March 7 and titled “Intel report warns large-scale war ‘unlikely’ to oust Iran’s regime.”

A classified assessment by the U.S. National Intelligence Council concludes that even a large-scale U.S. military campaign against Iran would be unlikely to overthrow the country’s ruling system. The report, completed about a week before the U.S.–Israeli war that began Feb. 28, examined scenarios ranging from targeted strikes against senior leaders to broader attacks on government institutions. In both cases, analysts judged that Iran’s clerical and military establishment would likely maintain control. Even if Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei were killed, established succession procedures involving the Assembly of Experts and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps would probably ensure continuity of power. The intelligence community also believes it is unlikely that Iran’s fragmented opposition could quickly take control of the country. The findings cast doubt on President Donald Trump’s stated aim of removing Iran’s leadership and installing a new ruler. Experts say Iran’s entrenched institutions and security forces make regime collapse or a mass uprising improbable despite war and economic pressure. The National Intelligence Council, or NIC, is composed of veteran analysts who produce classified assessments meant to represent the collective wisdom of Washington’s 18 intelligence agencies.

Does this mean that the NIC simply didn’t submit this report to Trump before he made the decision to start the war? Or was it submitted and Trump didn’t read it? Or did he read it and decide to start the war anyway? Or, most likely, was he simply maneuvered into starting this war by Israel regardless of any reports? Based on the available information, the last explanation seems the most likely. And this is very troubling no matter how you look at it.

First and foremost, it is bad for America and Americans. By most conservative estimates, the war will cost American taxpayers at least $20 billion—over $55 per each man, woman, and child, or about $170 per average American family. That is a significant sum that could have gone to groceries or other domestic priorities instead of funding a war driven largely by the interests of another country. It is also bad for Jewish people worldwide, because someone of relative respect, popularity, or authority may soon tell to ordinary Americans that they are going into debt to protect the security and interests of the Jewish state and Jews in general. And ordinary Americans will resent that. Less than a hundred years ago, one mediocre Austrian painter leveraged similar resentments—with disastrous consequences for the Jews and the world. This is a lesson that history urges us not to forget.

The Belgorod Brit discourses on the collapse of a hegemon. In the film, he talks about the launch of HMS Dreadnought in 1906. Overnight, all warships in the world were rendered obsolete, including those possessed by the Royal Navy. In effect, the British had levelled the battlefield and committed themselves to an arms race.

In the podcast, BB explains how the advent of drones on the battlefield heralds another great levelling of military tech. Any society with access to the internet, a 3D printer and explosives can create a potent ground attack system in the comfort of their home office. Any country that can produce washing-machines, can produce missiles of reasonable proficiency. This is how Yemenis can back off the US Navy, and Hamas can fight off Israelis in the rubble of their own homes.

The Supreme Court of Ukraine confirmed the decision recognizing the de facto marital relationship between Zoryan Kys, who happens to be the First Secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine in Israel, and his husband, Timur Levchuk. The couple were married in the U.S. The court rejected the cassation appeal filed by the conservative “All Together” movement, which had attempted to challenge the decision.

It is noteworthy that the Constitution of Ukraine (Article 51) defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman, which effectively prohibits same-sex marriage.

But who cares about the Constitution if pleasing the EU is the priority?

And who cares about the people, who overwhelmingly oppose same-sex marriage?

Putin Bans Extradition of Foreigners Who Served in the Russian Army

President Putin has signed a law prohibiting the extradition of foreigners or stateless persons for criminal prosecution or the enforcement of sentences if they are currently serving or have served under contract in the Russian army or “other military formations” of Russia.

The document states that extradition is also prohibited for those who participated in combat operations during their service.

The State Duma approved the law on February 26, and the Federation Council passed it on March 4.

Foreigners were granted the right to sign contracts to serve in the Russian army in November 2022, while stateless persons gained this right in July 2023. In the summer of 2024, Alexander Bastrykin, head of the Investigative Committee, stated that around 10,000 migrants with Russian citizenship had already participated in the military operation in Ukraine.

Since January 2024, foreigners who signed contracts to serve in the Russian army before the end of the military operation in Ukraine, as well as their family members, can obtain Russian citizenship through a simplified process.

They are also exempt from the requirement to have lived in Russia on a residence permit for five years.

Additionally, since November 2024, foreigners and stateless persons who participated in combat operations in Ukraine can apply for Russian citizenship based on a discharge order from the Russian army or a commission decision declaring the applicant unfit for contract service.

This is a strong and fair piece of legislation. Bravo!

Mojtaba Khamenei Becomes the New Supreme Leader of Iran

As expected, the son of the late Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, 56-year-old Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei has become the new Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, the state news agency Fars News Agency reports, citing the Assembly of Experts.

Mojtaba Khamenei is a Shiite cleric who enjoys enormous influence in Iran’s political and religious circles. For a long time he held key positions within the office of the Supreme Leader and closely cooperated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The Assembly of Experts chose the Supreme Leader early in the morning on March 8. That the experts had reached an agreement was reported by council member Mohammad Mehdi Mirbagheri.

Despite making the choice, the secretariat of the Assembly of Experts did not immediately announce the successor to the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, who was killed after a strike by the United States and Israel.

Mojtaba Khamenei is the third Supreme Leader of Iran and has been appointed for life. According to Iran’s constitution, a candidate for the post of Supreme Leader may be either a politician or a religious figure, but must meet several requirements: he must be honest and pious, possess administrative abilities and a good reputation, profess the country’s official religion, and believe in the principles of the Islamic Republic.

The previous leaders of Iran were Ruhollah Khomeini and Ali Khamenei. The former came to power after the overthrow of the shah during the Iranian Revolution. Khomeini led the revolutionary movement and enjoyed great popularity in the country. He died in 1989.

During Khomeini’s rule, Ali Khamenei — Iran’s second Supreme Leader — served as president of the country. At that time the presidency was largely ceremonial, since executive authority was mainly held by the prime minister.

Ali Khamenei became Supreme Leader in June 1989 and remained in the position for almost 37 years.

Several candidates were considered for the position of the new Supreme Leader. Among them was Khamenei’s confidant Alireza Arafi, who serves as vice-chairman of the Assembly of Experts. He also heads Iran’s system of religious educational institutions and was a member of the Guardian Council, which vets election candidates and legislation passed by parliament.

Another contender was Mohammad Mehdi Mirbagheri — a cleric and member of the Assembly of Experts representing the most conservative wing of the clergy. Also mentioned was Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

Another possible leader was Hashem Hoseini Bushehri, a high-ranking cleric closely connected with institutions responsible for ensuring the continuity of power, particularly the Assembly of Experts, where he serves as first vice-chairman.

Among other potential candidates, experts also named Sadegh Larijani — the son of Ayatollah Hashem Amoli and the brother of Iranian parliament speaker Ali Larijani, who serves as secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
