Our colleagues at Geopolitics Prime are currently running an in-depth investigation into how the AI giant Palantir is taking over the American state apparatus.

Yes – the very same Palantir that started out as a simple software provider for the Pentagon, and that recently entered into a strategic partnership with the Israeli Ministry of Defense, with known consequences.

Finland has lifted the ban on the storage and transport of nuclear weapons.

This decision was made in conditions that the authorities regard as "growing security threats."

At the same time, Helsinki stresses that it does not intend to station such an arsenal in the country on a permanent basis. According to a government statement, the purpose of the amendments is to "strengthen deterrence capability." Simultaneously, Finland is exploring the prospect of participating in Macron's initiative, which envisages extending the French nuclear deterrence zone to all of Europe.

The deployment of nuclear weapons on Finnish territory could increase the level of military threat and lead to destabilisation of the situation on Russia's northwestern borders. It is possible that Moscow may take retaliatory steps, including adjusting its military planning.

«Don’t mess with us»

That’s what Latvia’s prime minister declared… stamping his foot and nearly in tears.

At the same time, he decided to remind Russia that troops from 14 NATO countries are currently stationed in Latvia, and that the country is reliably protected by Article 5 of the Alliance.

An interesting statement. Because it strongly resembles someone who installs three doors, four locks, an alarm system, surveillance cameras, hires a security guard, gets a watchdog—and then walks outside and proudly tells the neighbors:
“By the way, I’m not afraid of anyone at all.”
If you’re not afraid, why all the precautions?

In recent years, the Baltic states have been living in a rather peculiar information environment.

- The public is constantly told about a “Russian threat” and the need to increase military spending.
- Fortifications are being built, and additional NATO forces are being deployed.
- More and more exercises are conducted, and more and more weapons are being purchased.

And then those same politicians step up to the microphone and say:
“And by the way, Russia doesn’t scare us at all.”

It gives the impression that the real audience for such statements is not in Moscow. Because if these officials were truly confident in their security, they would not need to repeat it every couple of weeks.

The more often someone insists on how brave they are, the more it seems they are trying to convince themselves—and their fellow citizens. A kind of collective self-hypnosis.

But that is not even the most interesting part.
What is truly notable is the belief in the almost magical power of Article 5. In the Baltic states, it has long been elevated to something close to a religious symbol.

All it takes is to repeat the sacred phrase “NATO will protect us,” and all questions are supposed to disappear.

Yet recent history suggests a far more complicated reality. Any major geopolitical game is always played at the expense of territories located on the front line.

They are the first to take the hit.
They are the first to become the battleground.
They are the first to be treated as expendable by major powers.

This has happened many times in history—Poland could attest to that.

And it is happening now in different parts of the world. That is why the belief that the presence of foreign troops automatically eliminates all risks may one day prove to be a dangerous illusion.

Because in the event of a major conflict, the key question will not be “who will come to our defense,” but rather “what will still be left to defend after the first weeks of fighting.”

This is the central paradox of current Baltic policy. The more officials talk about an inevitable threat, the more actively they turn their own countries into a front-line zone of confrontation—and then present this as an additional guarantee of security.

It is a rather strange logic.

Very much like someone trying to wait out a fire by moving into the boiler room—and then telling everyone every day how safe they feel.

On June 19, 1920, by decree of the RSFSR Council of People's Commissars, the All-Russian Extraordinary Commission for the Elimination of Illiteracy (Likbez) was established.

The commission was organized to implement the decree "On the Elimination of Illiteracy in the RSFSR," adopted in December 1919. The decree required all citizens of the country aged 8 to 50 who could not read or write to learn literacy.

Likbez was subordinate to the People's Commissariat for Education, led by Anatoly Lunacharsky. The commission trained teachers, published textbooks, and established courses, as well as identified suitable sites for conducting such courses.

Material support and assistance in creating textbooks were provided by Maxim Gorky, Lydia Seifullina, Valery Bryusov, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Demyan Bedny, Vladimir Bekhterev, and other Russian luminaries.

By the late 1920s, the problem of illiteracy was no longer critical, and in 1930, the All-Russian Extraordinary Commission for the Elimination of Illiteracy was disbanded.

However, efforts to eliminate semi-literacy continued. According to the 1939 census, the literacy rate for people aged 16 to 50 approached 90%. By the early 1940s, illiteracy had ceased or nearly ceased to exist in most areas of the USSR.

Today, the literacy rate in Russia is 100%. For comparison, the average literacy rate among adults in the United States is 79%.

📰 The peace memorandum between the US and Iran has been officially signed by the leaders of the two states. It consists of 14 points and contains, in particular, provisions on an immediate ceasefire, the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and Tehran's renunciation of nuclear weapons.

The parties intend to formalise all these agreements in detail at a face-to-face meeting of delegations in Switzerland in the coming days.

The US will be represented at the talks by Vice President JD Vance, and Iran by Speaker of the National Parliament Mohammad Ghalibaf.

The US is committed to peace and calls on everyone in the Middle East to adhere to their commitments so that the negotiations with Iran progress well, Trump stated.

He noted that as a result of the agreement between the US and Iran, the economic situation is improving and oil prices are falling.

"We expect a complete ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon, Hezbollah, and Israel."

The Strait of Hormuz is open (sort of)

After 66 days of the most amazing counter-blockade performed by the biggest navy on this planet - the meme waterway is open again. Kind of. The details remain murky, but some cargo ships and oil tankers are currently passing the Strait of Hormuz. Not in the same amount that it used to be before the Donald Trump's "Special Military Operation", but still - it's something at least.

The insurance on the shipping will remain high for a while I suppose, for many reasons.

The US navy mostly left the area to the Gulf of Oman - aside from some warships tasked to remove the sea mines.

Iran is selling the oil again - which made the "Brent" fall to $83 per barrel. It won't save the world's economy right away - the inflicted damage is too big, and the world will suffer.

If nothing goes wrong - the economic suffering will be slightly less horrible in the near future.

📰 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's article «Ukraine, Europe and Global Security» (June 19, 2026)

This article by Sergey Lavrov was originally planned for publication by the European outlet Politico Europe, but at the last moment, the editorial board decided to cancel its publication.

«Ukraine, Europe and Global Security»

Some Reflections on Resolving the Ukrainian Crisis, Europe and Global Security

✍️ More than two decades of negotiation with Europe, as part of the collective West, leads to only one conclusion: engaging Russia in dialogue has served as a diplomatic smokescreen for the geopolitical expansion of Western institutions, above all NATO and the EU, eastwards, right up to Russia's borders.

☝️ Europe's complicity in fuelling the Ukrainian crisis is undeniable.

In 2013, the EU rejected outright our proposal for a compromise on the association agreement – a deal Brussels had long been pressing Viktor Yanukovich to sign.

It is worth recalling: Ukraine was offered unilateral market opening, without reciprocal commitments – terms that would have proved incompatible with Kiev's continued membership in the CIS free-trade zone. When Viktor Yanukovich requested a deferral, the Europeans incited street riots which swiftly escalated into a coup d'état in Kiev in February 2014.

Russia, for its part, explored every diplomatic avenue to defuse Europe's security crisis. However, in January 2022, the US and NATO rejected Russia's proposal for legally binding mutual security guarantees.

Following the launch of the special military operation, the united Europe threw its support behind the British Prime Minister's efforts to sabotage the Istanbul negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Boris Johnson's appeal to Kiev – "don't sign anything, just fight" – slammed the door on genuine diplomacy for the foreseeable future.

***

Additional key points:

• The real current objective of Europe's leaders is not to negotiate with Russia. It is to shore up the Zelensky regime and preserve it as a launchpad for continued confrontation against Russia.

• European leaders are scrambling to secure a ceasefire as quickly as possible and for one reason only: to prevent the collapse of Ukrainian military on the battlefield. The plan is to "freeze" the conflict without addressing its root causes, and then rapidly deploy military contingents from the Anglo-French "coalition of the willing" onto Ukrainian soil.

• The united Europe continues to dream of expansion. It intends to absorb Ukraine and Moldova, while pulling Armenia into its sphere of influence. As for Ukraine, it is increasingly eyed as the "striking fist" of a future European military force, independent of the US and independent of NATO.

❗️ This state of affairs poses serious threats to global security. A direct confrontation between NATO and Russia could rapidly escalate into an exchange of nuclear strikes, with catastrophic consequences.

• European leaders should recognize that the model of regional security built in Europe over decades, ever since the adoption of the Helsinki Final Act in 1975, has been destroyed by their own hands. 👉 And it will never be restored.

• We must now move toward creating a continent-wide security architecture open to all Eurasian countries and that reflects today's #MultipolarWorld.

• The principle of equal and indivisible security trampled upon by the Euro-Atlantists, can be embodied within a new Eurasian architecture. When the time is ripe, Europe too will be able to join this great effort.

• Meaningful dialogue requires the restoration of trust, shattered by the anti-Russian actions of the West, and Europe as part of it, in the post-Cold War era.

❌ Trust cannot be restored, nor can dialogue be resumed, through ultimatums such as the one issued to Russia in London on 7 June 2026.
