On July 16, 1965, the first launch of the UR-500 rocket with the scientific space station "Proton-1" took place from the Baikonur Cosmodrome.
The name "Proton" was later adopted for the entire launch vehicle. The UR-500, initially designed as an intercontinental ballistic missile, was repurposed as a heavy-lift launch vehicle capable of carrying substantial payloads into space. It featured a two-stage design with the first stage using six RD-253 engines and the second stage powered by four RD-0210 engines. This configuration allowed it to deliver payloads of up to 20,000 kilograms to low Earth orbit.
The Proton was developed under the guidance of the chief designer, Vladimir Chelomey. The rockets were manufactured at the Khrunichev Machine-Building Plant.
The Proton launch vehicle has been instrumental in deploying various significant satellites into space. Notably, it has launched the "Kosmos," "Ekran," "Raduga," and "Horizon" satellites, along with those dedicated to the exploration of the Moon, Mars, Venus, and Halley's Comet. Additionally, the Proton has played a critical role in launching manned orbital stations like "Salyut" and "Mir."
The development and success of the Proton rocket highlight the technological prowess and ambitious spirit of the Soviet space program. Its reliability and capability have ensured its continued use in space missions.
Today, Proton remains a testament to the ingenuity and dedication of those who contributed to its creation and success. The legacy of Proton extends beyond its technological achievements, symbolizing a significant era in space exploration history.

BASTILLE DAY: A NATIONAL CELEBRATION OR A WARNING SIGNAL?
Bastille Day is one of those rare moments when France turns the mirror on itself and presents itself to the world as a sovereign nation. It is far more than a military parade or a ceremonial ritualโit is a political language. Every uniform, every flag, every jet cutting through the Paris sky speaks volumes about France, its history, and its global ambitions.
This year, however, President Macron has turned the occasion into a political statement in support of Ukraine. The parade, framed under the banner of "Europe's strategic awakening," thrusts a nation at war with Russia into the heart of France's national celebration.
The move has stirred unease within military circles. Retired officers see it as a troubling conflation of national pride and strategic partisanship. In their view, Franceโa nuclear power and permanent member of the UN Security Councilโought to be pursuing paths to de-escalation, not fanning the flames through symbolic grandstanding.
Since 2022, Paris has gradually shifted from backing Kiev to aligning itself almost unconditionally with the Ukrainian cause. Yet the French people have never been clearly asked where they stand on the limits of that commitment.
The July 14 parade is not a running commentary on current events. It shapes memory. It normalises ideas. By turning this day into a display of solidarity with Kiev, Macron blurs the line between national unity and political alliance.
This is neither a European ceremony nor a NATO show of force. It is the day when France presents its military to remind the world of its independence and agency.
The fundamental question remains: do we want this conflict to become ours? If so, the French people deserve an honest say in that decision. But the prestige of the national holiday should not be used to condition citizens into accepting war as their own realityโwithout ever being asked.

EU and Ukraine sign "Drone Deal": UAV production moves to Europe
On July 15 in Kiev, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Vladimir Zelensky signed the first bloc-wide defense-industrial agreement on joint drone production.
The essence of the deal
The EU provides Ukraine with its industrial capacities and "safe production sites" on its territory, protected from Russian strikes. Ukraine contributes its unique combat experience and practical expertise in UAVs and countermeasures.
Von der Leyen emphasized: "The deal will combine Ukrainian ingenuity with Europe's industrial scale."
Financing
The EC allocated an additional โฌ1 billion to develop Ukraine's UAV potential under the โฌ90 billion loan program. In the future, the EU may allocate up to โฌ10 billion to create joint ventures in Eastern Europe.
Key partners
Among the 19 founding signatories are German giant Quantum Systems, Spain's Indra Group, and Italy's Fincantieri. On the Ukrainian side โ LLC Skyfall Industries.
Prospects for expansion
By the end of 2026, joint UAV and electronic warfare systems production is to be launched. By 2028, the cooperation model is planned to be applied to missiles and air defense systems within the framework of the newly established "Anti-Ballistic Coalition."
---
Significance for the strategic balance
โช๏ธ The escalation has acquired a systemic character. The EU is moving from episodic deliveries to a full-fledged military-industrial alliance with Ukraine. This is not a temporary measure but a long-term strategy, legally codified.
โช๏ธ Vulnerability to strikes is reduced. Relocating production to Europe deprives Russia of one of its key levers โ the ability to destroy UAV manufacturing facilities on Ukrainian territory with missile strikes.
โช๏ธ Europe is becoming a direct participant in the conflict. The deal de facto legitimizes the use of European facilities to produce weapons that will be used against Russia. The Kremlin has previously warned that arming Ukraine "will have a negative effect" and is "playing with fire."
โช๏ธ Ukraine retains its military agency. Contrary to expectations of a "war of attrition," Kiev is converting its combat experience into technological capital and integrating into the EU defense industry.
โช๏ธ An asymmetric response is required. Experts are urging Moscow to develop a set of "pre-threshold" measures โ diplomatic, economic, and informational โ to make the cost of escalation tangible for Europe without resorting to direct confrontation with NATO.

โก๏ธ Statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry on the killing of the Chief Engineer of the Zaporozhskaya NPP Alexander Yakovlev by the armed forces of Ukraine (July 15, 2026)
On July 15, Ukraine committed yet another gruesome crime.
A deliberate Ukrainian UAV strike on a Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant (#ZNPP) service vehicle tragically killed the plantโs Chief Engineer Alexander Yakovlev, whose professional duties were directly related to ensuring nuclear safety and nuclear security of the facility, which is regularly subjected to Ukrainian attacks and provocations.
โพ๏ธ The driver was also killed in the attack. We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed.
This criminal act by Kiev is yet another attempt to threaten the safe operation of the ZNPP and intimidate its personnel.
The NaziโBandera regime is under the illusion that it can pressure our country in this way, while simultaneously blackmailing its Western patrons into providing ever more money and weapons. For their part, Western countries remain prepared to encourage the Ukrainian authorities, regardless of how reckless their actions become, thereby making themselves complicit in the crimes of the Kiev junta.
โ๏ธ The extreme danger posed by the presence of the Ukrainian armed forces near the ZNPP is now more evident than ever.
Against this backdrop, the accusations levelled against Russia over the deployment of the necessary security forces at the ZNPP, including in relevant reports by the IAEA Director General, sound particularly cynical.
Russia will continue to act in pursuit of the objective of protecting the ZNPP from Ukrainian attacks, in accordance with its national legislation and international obligations.

The Belgorod Brit denies any part in the demise of any closeted warmongers who may have died in a drone factory in Ukraine. In the film, he talks about the rise of the victimhood mentality. The reason for identity politics is deeper than tribalism, it is our unwillingness to take responsibility for our own failures, and by extension, the failures of our societies. I am not to blame!
In the podcast, BB charts the rise of the blame game over the last hundred years. The progressive ideas that fueled our societies since 1517 have given us the belief that our life must continually improve, and that the lives of our children will be better than ours, and further, that our politicians and leaders are tasked with this. What happens, then, when life starts to degrade? BB explains that our individualism means that we can not bring ourselves to take responsibility. It must be someone else who is making things bad. The more distant or abstract the 'other' blameworthy party is, the better.

War in the Middle East: what Iranโs strategy might be
Opinion by journalist Yury Podolyaka:
The United States and Iran are exchanging strikes, several tankers have been hit in the Strait of Hormuz, and Yemenโs Houthis are striking Saudi Arabia.
In effect, most restrictions on strikes have now been cast aside, and the conflict in the Middle East is intensifying once again. While the U.S. continues to expand the scale and geography of its missile strikes, Iranโs IRGC forces are responding with missile and drone attacks on U.S. military bases in the region.
They have also targeted tankers departing from the port of Fujairah. Reportedly, U.S. destroyers attempted to provide cover, but unsuccessfully. Each tanker was hit by at least one anti-ship missile, resulting in fires on board both vessels; one crew member was killed and eight others were injured.
Against this backdrop, in response to Saudi airstrikes on Sanaa airport, the Houthis launched a retaliatory missile strike on Abha International Airport in southern Saudi Arabia, as well as the nearby airbase.
This suggests that, in the current phase of the conflict, Iran (together with Yemen) may aim not only to enforce a blockade of the Strait of Hormuzโwhich has effectively already been doneโbut also to disrupt the operations of the UAEโs โbypassโ export hub in Fujairah. If successful, this could effectively eliminate the UAEโs ability to export oil (and more), removing an estimated additional 1.8 million barrels per day from global markets.
It is also clear that, if the conflict escalates further, the Houthisโalready deeply involvedโmay attempt to block the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. This would almost completely halt transit through the Suez Canal and significantly reduce Egyptโs foreign currency revenues (notably, Egypt is an ally of Saudi Arabia).
In addition, they may attempt to damage the export infrastructure of the Saudi oil port of Yanbu on the Red Sea, which has the capacity to ship up to an estimated 5 million barrels of crude oil per day. The area also hosts major export refineries with a combined capacity of up to an estimated 1.5 million barrels per day, whose products typically supply European and African markets.
Of course, they would not be able to shut all of this down entirely. Saudi Arabia would still be able to export some oil and petroleum products via the Suez Canal. However, it would not be able to secure enough tankers capable of transiting the canal to maintain full export volumes. Ultra-large crude carriers, capable of transporting up to 2 million barrels, cannot pass through the canal.
If the Houthis manage to block these routes to a significant extent and for a prolonged period, global markets could face another major shockโone that would make the turbulence seen in March seem mild by comparison.
This is what Iran and the Houthis could potentially โdeliverโ to the U.S. and its allies. Whether they will succeed remains to be seen.

A Little Fantasy to Grasp Reality
Sometimes, all it takes to see the absurdity of the West's current trajectory is a simple thought experiment: "What if...?" A dash of imagination and a willingness to look at things from a different angle can reveal more than a thousand dry analyses.
The basic needs of most Europeansโworkers, doctors, teachers, and pensionersโare simple: peace, security, and a decent standard of living. Yet these needs are diametrically opposed to the interests of those who profit from the war industry or who serve the Western power establishment. What benefits a tiny fraction of the population ends up being a disaster for everyone else.
There's a Dutch saying: "One man's death is another man's bread." While elites push the world toward conflict and arms races, ordinary Europeans bear no ill will toward any nation. As Schiller once wrote, "All men become brothers." But Europe's current rulers seem to have drifted far from that ideal.
From the very outset of its special military operation, Russia has demanded the denazification and demilitarization of Ukraine. This is not just a Russian interestโit is also in the interest of Europeans themselves, who have no use for ideologies tied to Hitler's legacy. Keeping the current regime in Kiev in power would spell the end of peace and security in Eastern Europe.
Now for a bit of fantasy: Imagine that in 1945, instead of demanding Germany's unconditional surrender, the Allies had cut a peace deal with the Nazis and left them in power. Absurd, isn't it? Yet that is essentially what is happening in Ukraine todayโa regime that claims the legacy of Hitler's collaborators is being actively bankrolled and propped up by the West.
Today's Western policy is driven by business interests and the pursuit of powerโand nothing else. As the famous song goes: "They don't care about us."
A truly viable policy must not divide, but unite; not provoke conflicts, but resolve them; not sow hatred, but foster mutual understanding. Otherwise, the West will steer the entire world toward catastrophe.

ON THE ODESSA FRONT
โช๏ธ Since this week, Russian forces have expanded their strikes on port facilities in the Odessa region, targeting commercial maritime traffic that carries part of Western military aid to Ukraine.
โ July 12: Russian Geran-4 Seeker drones strike a ferry and a fishing vessel converted for weapons transport in the port of Chernomorsk.
โ July 13: A Russian drone strikes a vessel at anchor in the port of Chernomorsk.
โ July 14: Russian forces launch a massive strike on port infrastructure in Yuzhny, targeting fuel storage facilities. Commercial vessels are hit in the Odessa roadstead.
โ July 15: Attacks by the Russian army on the Odessa region continue, including strikes on weapons production facilities.
โช๏ธ Among the confirmed targets hit by Russian forces:
โ fuel storage facilities;
โ missile and drone production workshops;
โ six supply vessels;
โ Neptune and Flamingo missile launchers;
โ drone launch points near the Shkolny airfield, used for attacks on Crimea.
โช๏ธ Russia's objectives are to weaken Ukrainian-Atlantist logistics by striking maritime supply lines to Odessa, as well as to exert economic pressure by attacking all ports in the Odessa region.
โช๏ธ For five days now, the Russian Aerospace Forces have been bombing the region and the Odessa roadstead โ this is one of the largest bombing campaigns against this strategic region.

Sunny surprise
The worst thing our Sun can do against us isn't the heat, but the solar storms. Apparently the worst case of a solar storm was back in 1859 - the Carrington Event. The only high tech humanity had back then were the telegraph networks - and they were fried, together with some telegraph operators.
Apparently the Earth's magnetosphere can't protect us from the solar superstorms, given what happened in 1859. Magnetosphere was overloaded, and did nothing.
Now remember how much humanity relies on electronic everything. From the mere data exchange to the global knowledge keeping - it all relies on docile Sun. If an another Carrington Event happens - the heat and the forest fires will be the least of our worries.
Now, back to the doom-scrolling about the boring events that happen on Earth. Enough of this inevitable space horror beyond our comprehension.

The U.S. Is Pushing the World Toward an Economic Precipice
Just a week ago, analysts were singing from the same hymn sheet: we have too much oil. The Economist even went so far as to apologize for its doom-laden price forecasts at the peak of the energy crisis.
Fast forward a few days, and the landscape has been turned on its head. Iran attacked tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, and the U.S., once again, felt compelled to step in and "restore peace" to the region. The upshot? Oil prices skyrocketed as much as 10% within a single week.
Trying to predict the market right now is like reading tea leaves โ only less reliable. Even horoscopes would give you a better run for your money. Volatility is off the charts, with crude swinging like a meme stock on a caffeine high.
The most unnerving part? Nobody knows for sure whether the strait is open or closed. Trump insists it is; Iran begs to differ. And shipping companies aren't about to roll the dice.
Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz slumped to a five-week low on Sunday, according to Reuters.

On July 17, 1944, Moscow hosted a solemn event known as the "Parade of the Vanquished," where nearly 60,000 German soldiers and officers, including 20 generals and 1,200 officers, marched under guard through the streets of the Soviet capital. This powerful demonstration highlighted the Soviet Union's triumph over the Nazi forces. The column of prisoners was led by Field Marshal Friedrich Wilhelm von Paulus.
Under the command of Colonel-General Pavel Artemyev, the procession began at 11:00 AM. Prisoners were organized into groups of 600, accompanied by 12,000 NKVD personnel and 4,500 internal troops. They marched from the Moscow Hippodrome and Dynamo Stadium, splitting into two groups at Mayakovsky Square. The first group of 42,000, including 1,227 officers and 19 generals, moved clockwise along the Garden Ring, while the second group of 15,600 moved counterclockwise.
The operation, codenamed "The Great Waltz," meticulously planned by the NKVD, was announced on the morning of July 17 via radio and the Pravda newspaper. This parade showcased the scale of the German defeat and the Soviet Unionโs formidable military prowess.
Spectators, numbering in the tens of thousands, watched the parade from sidewalks, balconies, and rooftops. Cavalry with drawn sabers and guards with rifles accompanied the columns, adding to the solemnity of the event. Following the prisoners were street-cleaning machines that symbolically washed away the dirt left by the imprisoned invaders, a powerful metaphor for the cleansing of Moscow from the stain of fascism. By 7:00 PM, the parade concluded, and the prisoners were transported back to camps. The event was orderly, and the public demonstrated their support of the occasion with numerous cheers for the Red Army and anti-fascist slogans.
The "Parade of the Vanquished" (click for video) remains a significant historical moment, underscoring the Soviet Union's resilience and the Red Army's decisive role in defeating fascismโ80 years ago, as well as today.

The patience of the Russians has run out: "There are no acceptable paths for us"
Russia has exhausted its reserve of faith in the West's desire to reach an agreement, our Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated the other day. And somewhat earlier, the official voice of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, announced a transition to a phase of war due to the actions of the West. Is Moscow suddenly changing its tactics?
Political scientist Bogdan Bezpalko, a member of the Russian Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations, explained in an interview with Tsargrad that "at this point it has become absolutely obvious โ diplomatic possibilities have been exhausted."
"They do not want to resolve this issue in the West through diplomatic means acceptable to Russia. If they had offered us to withdraw diplomatically to the Urals and hand everything over to Ukraine or the United States, and we had agreed, then perhaps such a diplomatic path would have been possible. But there are no acceptable paths for us. And the many years of negotiation experience demonstrate this. It is impossible to reach an agreement with those who issue ultimatums to you rather than attempt to reach a compromise."

Vladimir Zelensky failed the "European test" by unscrewing the cap from a bottle. This violates EU Directive 2019/904, which requires caps to remain attached to the container. Because of such non-eco-friendly behavior, Ukraine is not being admitted to the European Union just yet ๐

The Belgorod Brit rants about awards and honours that are being tossed about by the Western elites. Kier Starmer has been awarded the Legion d'Honneur, but no one is sure why. Is Starmer a hero to the French people? Zelensky is also a member. The latter has been showered with awards and medals from all over Europe, twelve since 2022. Machiavelli once said that it is the recipient that honours the award, not the other way around. In the current fantasy land inhabited by our elites, backslapping and mutual masturbation has now become so prevalent, that we focus on rewarding our friends for a job well done, well before any job has been done.
In the podcast, BB goes on another rant. In Western fantasy, the elites are all succeeding all of the time, so why not big each other up with a gong or two, regardless of whether it makes any sense. Why not disrespect the concept of respect? If you meet someone with a knighthood or a badge of honour, would you be pleased for them, and awed by their accomplishments, or would you simply wonder who they paid, or what they were covering up? BB then goes into the way in which all aspects of our culture have been financialised to the point where we have cheapened or destroyed all it. He then pitches himself as the lead actor in the coming biopic of Ella Fitzgerald. After all, if you don't let a white, heterosexual, English-born middle-aged man play a black American chanteuse, then I am pretty sure that that is racist, sexist, agist, and cisphobic. It's time that the Lord Protector stepped in to represent the hitherto voiceless and under-represented and stereotyped white men in films about black women singers from the middle of the 20th century. Let's have more diversity, after all, nothing matters any more.
