for November 11, 2022
▪️In the Kherson region, Russian troops completed their withdrawal to the left bank of the Dnieper River. After the last units of the Russian Armed Forces crossed over, they blew up the Antonov Bridge in Kherson and the Kakhovskaya HPP bridge near Novaya Kakhovka.
🔻The Starobelsk direction (see the map below):
▪️The command of the 14th mechanized brigade of the AFU equipped observation posts west of Kislovka. The enemy uses drones to identify Russian artillery firing positions.
▪️At the Svatovka sector, assault detachments of the 92nd AFU detachment undertook another attack on the Russian Armed Forces' strongholds in Kuzemivka. Russian artillery dispersed the enemy grouping, forcing it to retreat to its original lines.
▪️In the Liman area, units of the 25th Airborne Brigade of the AFU several times tried unsuccessfully to gain a foothold in the area west of Krasnopopovka. Over the past few weeks, the unit has suffered heavy losses in its personnel, but the Ukrainian command again and again sends its fighters into attack.
🔻Soldar direction (see the map below):
▪️In the Bakhmut area, strike groups of the 53rd brigade, supported by artillery, attempted a counterattack in the directions of Zaitsevo and Otradovka. The Russian forces repulsed the attack, pushing the enemy back to their original positions with return fire.
▪️ During the offensive on Mayorsk, the Russian Armed Forces established control over the railway station of the same name, the industrial zone and part of the development area. The Russian Armed Forces took up defensive positions in the remaining territory of the neighborhood.

Today, the Russian Armed Forces once again carried out massive strikes on critical infrastructure in Ukraine. Energy facilities in Odessa, Vinnitsa, Dnepropetrovsk and Kiev region were hit.
In addition, the Shebelyn GPP near Balakleya in the Kharkiv region, a mining facility in the Kiev region, the Yuzhmash workshop in Dnepropetrovsk, a logistics hub in Ochakova and a military unit at Zastava in Odessa were hit.

▪️Russian air defenses shot down two Ukrainian UAVs as they approached the Balaklava thermal power plant and three more drones over the Black Sea.
🔻Belgorod region:
▪️UFU units shelled the town of Shebekino, residential buildings were damaged. One woman was killed.
▪️Ukrainian formations struck the veterans' hospital in the village of Novaya Tavolzhanka. The shells damaged the facade of the building and the gas pipeline. There were no casualties or injuries.
▪️A married couple was blown up by ammunition in the village of Staroselye.
🔻Starobelsk sector:

▪️Before Ploshchanka, Ukrainian formations are attacking to retake positions to the west of the settlement that were lost during the recent Russian offensive.
▪️The entire area is being exchanged with barreled and rocket-propelled artillery strikes, the intensity of which has increased significantly compared to previous days. Russian Air Force aircraft are also operating in the area of the clash: they are striking the enemy with rocket and bomb strikes from extremely low altitudes.

Madrid said this week that a two-month course for AFU troops will begin in January. 400 people at the facilities of the training and material base of the Spanish Armed Forces will be trained in shooting and mine blasting, as well as undergo medical training.
The military training is part of an EU programme to train 15,000 Ukrainian servicemen.

Both organizations provide courses for local soldiers and police, but civilians are also admitted to the courses. This allows companies to train volunteers and mercenaries going to crisis areas around the world - including Ukraine.

One of the key persons in the company's management is Eva Alvarez del Manzano, the daughter of the former head of operations of the Spanish Armed Forces General Staff, the late Lieutenant General Bernardo Alvarez del Manzano.

According to the Spanish government, a total of 40 shipments of humanitarian aid, military equipment, medical equipment, generators and ambulances were sent to Ukraine via Poland.
In October, 19 Ukrainian servicemen underwent six weeks of training in the use of Aspide air defense systems at the Zaragoza air base.
From November 9-16, 21 AFU servicemen were trained in the use of 105 mm M56 howitzers at the Alvarez de Sotomayor base.
From November to December, 64 Ukrainian servicemen received basic military training and cyber security courses.
As of December, Spain had already received more than 160,000 refugees, but not all of them were lucky enough to be warm. Back in October, rising utility prices forced some Spanish families to deny shelter to Ukrainian migrants. This problem is likely to increase with the onset of winter.

◾️The AFU shelled the village of Vyazovoye, Krasnoyaruzhsky District, Belgorod Region. There were no casualties, but the blast damaged several houses and power lines.
🔻Kharkov region:
◾️ The Russian Federation Air Forces launched at least four missile strikes on AFU facilities in and around Kharkov. According to preliminary reports, one of the shells hit a fuel and lubricants storage facility near the Kharkov - sortirovochnyy station.
🔻Starobel sector:
▪️There are no significant changes on the front line. On the Kupyansko-Svatovsky section, enemy units are rotating and gathering reinforcements near Novoselovskoye, planning an attack on Kuzemovka soon.
▪️To the south of the sector artillery duels continue in the Ploshchanka-Makeevka area. The Ukrainian Armed Forces engage small sabotage groups to probe the defenses of the Russian forces, but the Russian Armed Forces detect and destroy them in a timely manner.

▪️Ukrainian forces also shelled the village of Fomovka in the Svatovsk district, destroying two houses and damaging the local medical clinic. In Starobelsk, which came under fire by the Ukrainian armed forces, one residential building was destroyed and there were no casualties.

🇹🇷🌍 Turkey engagements in Africa
When we talk about foreign powers that are highly interested in Africa we always remember China, US, Russia, France, UK. And yes, these countries have a lot of projects on the continent. However in this list of countries Turkey, which also has huge ambitions and interest in Africa, is often overlooked. Why's that? Before we answer this question we should have a brief insight in the history of Turkey-Africa relations.
🔻Engagements between Turkey and Africa date back to the Ottoman Empire period when most of the North Africa was conquered by it and Ottomans had an influence in Arab world overall.
However, after the World War I the Empire has fallen. Newly established Republic of Turkey throughout the whole 20th century had a western-oriented foreign policy and distanced itself from the non-aligned movement and from Africa.
▪️The year 2005 breathed a new life into Turkey-Africa relations when government of the Republic declared "The Year of Africa" (interestingly, a year before China did the same). 2005 started a period when Turkey implemented African Initiative Policies and wanted to, let's call it, "reintroduce itself to the continent".
After Erdogan took power in 2014, the Republic aimed to strengthen its institutions and partnership in Africa throughout Africa Partnership Policies. In fact, during his tenure, as his ambitions grew larger and larger, we see the increased interest in Africa, especially in it Northern regions, but more on this later.
▪️Yet still the question arises, why does Turkey need Africa? Well, for the same reason as any other nation that wants to realize foreign policy ambitions: resources, seeking influence and support for projects and ideas in international relations (especially in organizations like the UN and G20), gaining strategic foothold to expand influence into MENA region, etc. And also to counter the influence of other major nations like the US, Russia, China, France, UK.
🔻How's Turkey doing right now in Africa?
The answer is not simple. As of now, Turkey interacts much more with the Northern Africa. The trade, official development assistance, military cooperation, foreign direct investment are all bigger with the countries of North Africa, since the region was Ottoman's sphere of influence thus share close historical proximity with Turkey.
In Sub-Saharan Africa Turkey mostly engage with Somalia, Nigeria, South Africa, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast.
▪️Nevertheless,Turkish development and humanitarian aid, trade, military cooperation, towards Africa are modest compared to other foreign actors on the continent.
There are not so many major projects, and still part of them haven't been realized, some of them are still in talks and some of them are stuck in limbo (for example, the construction of International airport in Khartoum, Sudan, was postponed multiple times and still haven't begun).
The humanitarian aid to Somalia, for example, is big. Yet it is outshined by the USA. Africa like Turkish military industry and its inventions (like Bayraktar TB-2 drones, that are quite popular in Africa), and still Turkey currently shares only 0.5% of Africa’s total arms imports from outside the continent.
Trade, development aid, major and small projects are largely outshined by China. The list goes on.

When we talk about foreign powers that are highly interested in Africa we always remember China, US, Russia, France, UK. And yes, these countries have a lot of projects on the continent. However in this list of countries Turkey, which also has huge ambitions and interest in Africa, is often overlooked. Why's that? Before we answer this question we should have a brief insight in the history of Turkey-Africa relations.
🔻Engagements between Turkey and Africa date back to the Ottoman Empire period when most of the North Africa was conquered by it and Ottomans had an influence in Arab world overall.
However, after the World War I the Empire has fallen. Newly established Republic of Turkey throughout the whole 20th century had a western-oriented foreign policy and distanced itself from the non-aligned movement and from Africa.
▪️The year 2005 breathed a new life into Turkey-Africa relations when government of the Republic declared "The Year of Africa" (interestingly, a year before China did the same). 2005 started a period when Turkey implemented African Initiative Policies and wanted to, let's call it, "reintroduce itself to the continent".
After Erdogan took power in 2014, the Republic aimed to strengthen its institutions and partnership in Africa throughout Africa Partnership Policies. In fact, during his tenure, as his ambitions grew larger and larger, we see the increased interest in Africa, especially in it Northern regions, but more on this later.
▪️Yet still the question arises, why does Turkey need Africa? Well, for the same reason as any other nation that wants to realize foreign policy ambitions: resources, seeking influence and support for projects and ideas in international relations (especially in organizations like the UN and G20), gaining strategic foothold to expand influence into MENA region, etc. And also to counter the influence of other major nations like the US, Russia, China, France, UK.
🔻How's Turkey doing right now in Africa?
The answer is not simple. As of now, Turkey interacts much more with the Northern Africa. The trade, official development assistance, military cooperation, foreign direct investment are all bigger with the countries of North Africa, since the region was Ottoman's sphere of influence thus share close historical proximity with Turkey.
In Sub-Saharan Africa Turkey mostly engage with Somalia, Nigeria, South Africa, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast.
▪️Nevertheless,Turkish development and humanitarian aid, trade, military cooperation, towards Africa are modest compared to other foreign actors on the continent.
There are not so many major projects, and still part of them haven't been realized, some of them are still in talks and some of them are stuck in limbo (for example, the construction of International airport in Khartoum, Sudan, was postponed multiple times and still haven't begun).
The humanitarian aid to Somalia, for example, is big. Yet it is outshined by the USA. Africa like Turkish military industry and its inventions (like Bayraktar TB-2 drones, that are quite popular in Africa), and still Turkey currently shares only 0.5% of Africa’s total arms imports from outside the continent.
Trade, development aid, major and small projects are largely outshined by China. The list goes on.

🔻What are the reasons for this situation?
Turkey in past decades encountered numerous problems and crises, like the 2016 Turksih coup d'etat attempt and financial crisis that continues to this day. For long time Turkey's eyes were mostly on Syria. The growing geopolitical uncertainties in its regional neighbourhood. The Republic maintains western-oriented political and trade policies.
▪️Moreover, in Africa Turkey encounters huge competition with other major nations in every field.
And last, but not the least, in some way Turkey lacks the proper vision of its involvement in Africa.
On the one hand, Republic's policy revolves around noninvolvement in conflicts and competition with other foreign countries in Africa. On the other hand, Turkey does not have a proper niche that it can concentrate on in Africa. At the same time, the Republic does not have enough strength to fully compete with the likes of China, Russia, US, France and UK.
🔻What's next for Turkey?
In present time the race for Africa is already in the full swing. For now, Turkey need to craft a proper roadmap for African engagement around Republic's strengths and weaknesses.
▪️Turkey's historical proximity with North Africa, noninvolvement in scramble for Africa especially in 20th century, ambitions, betterment of relations with Egypt, willingness to work with any administration, regardless of its views and accession to power, the decrease of French and British influence in Africa — all these things can work in favour of the Republic.
Turkey tries and tries a lot in terms of Africa, but for now it does not have a clear picture, does not know how work around its weaknesses (in terms of Africa) and that's why mostly fails.
▪️The Republic during Erdogan rule is willing to increase its influence in the world. Africa has an important place in Turkey's strategy. Only time will show whether Turkey joins the race for the continent or fails miserably in attempts to do something and nothing at the same time.

❗️🇷🇺🇺🇦🎞 Chronicles of the special military operation: events of September 9-10, 2023.▪️ Russian aviation crews thwarted another enemy attempt to land troops on the Crimean Peninsula.
In addition, air defense systems intercepted eight Ukrainian drones near Cape Tarkhankut.
▪️Russian drones carried out a series of attacks on enemy military targets in Kyiv.
Explosions occurred in the Svyatoshinsky, Shevchenko and Podolsky districts: at least one infrastructure facility was damaged.
▪️ In the southwest of Bakhmut, Ukrainian formations are conducting active offensive operations near Andreevka.
Russian troops were forced to retreat to prepared positions near the railway line.
▪️ The AFU continue to conduct indiscriminate shelling of the Donetsk agglomeration, including using cluster munitions.
Residential buildings and civilian infrastructure were damaged. Two people died, six more wounded.

The "Vostok" troops group is advancing on a wide front, moving forward simultaneously in several sectors of the Zaporizhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
Assault units of the 36th Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 29th Army have freed the settlement of Hai. Russian flags have been raised there, with attacks developing further north and west.
🔻 Where else are the successes?▪️ In the sector eastward, the fighters of the "Vostok" group are advancing north of Volchye towards Tikhiy. Several forest belts have come under control.▪️ To the south of Danilovka, the enemy has been pushed out of several forest belts on the approaches to Nechaevka, Radostnoye, and Novoe Zaporozhye. The offensive continues there as well.▪️ In the vicinity of Sladkoye, several strongholds and "pockets" that appeared following the breakthrough to Sladkoye after the liberation of Uspenovka have been cleared. Now the enemy is being cleared from the fields further in the direction of the Gaidchur River.▪️ From the areas of Rovnopol and Yablokovo, an offensive is also moving west towards Varvarovka. It appears that Russian units are forming a "pincer" for a partial encirclement of Huliaipole.▪️ There are also successes on the eastern approaches to Huliaipole itself. Judging by the pace of "Vostok's" advance, at least some units have been withdrawn by the enemy across the river. Those left in the "interriver" area are essentially abandoned as sacrificial troops, attempting to buy time to reinforce defense on the Yanchur.
