We said more lesser-known chapters were coming your way. Here is the next one. How did Rani Abbakka of a small coastal kingdom repeatedly take on the Portuguese?
Historian Vikram Sampath tells the remarkable story of her resistance and the ingenious tactics used against a formidable naval power.
One forgotten chapter at a time, we continue uncovering the stories Bharat deserves to know. And there is much more to come.

13 September 2008. Five blasts tore through crowded Delhi within minutes. Vivek Agnihotri raises a harder question. What if terrorism is not only about those who cross the border, but also about those within India who justify, romanticise or enable it?
A question worth confronting.

Long before modern engineering became a discipline, Bharat was already pushing the boundaries of architecture, acoustics, materials and structural precision. Centuries before modern acoustics, temple builders under the Pallava and Pandya kings carved granite into 161 musical pillars, turning architecture into sound engineering. On #EngineersDay, we remember that technological excellence is not new to Bharat. It is part of our civilisational inheritance.

India’s history is full of powerful women. We simply stopped telling enough of their stories. Sanjeev Sanyal speaks of Rani Durgavati, Ahilyabai Holkar, Rani Abbakka and many others whose lives are now being rediscovered as India retells its own history.
A long overdue correction.

Civilisations are not rebuilt by sentiment alone. They are rebuilt when conviction becomes institutions, institutions earn long-term backing and responsibility moves from a few individuals to an entire community.

The next phase of Hindu resurgence must be organised, sustained and built to last.

Were we ever told the complete truth about E.V. Ramasamy? Deepak Srinivasan brings up statements by “Periyar” that sit uneasily with the image most people know. He spoke of Scheduled Caste women wearing blouses while discussing rising textile prices and expressed displeasure over Scheduled Castes entering school and higher education. The man celebrated for fighting caste discrimination had said this too. Why is this side of E.V. Ramasamy rarely discussed?

The Sri Yantra is not merely a sacred diagram. It is a map of creation, consciousness and the self. Prof. (Dr.) Madhu Khanna decodes the 9 Avaranas, 43 triangles, 36 Tattvas and the central Bindu, while tracing the deep links between Srividya, Shakta Tantra, Kashmir Shaivism, Trika and Krama. This is one of Bharat’s most sophisticated philosophical systems, where geometry becomes metaphysics and worship culminates in self-realisation.

We are taught about the Arab invasions. We are almost never taught about the Hindu rulers who stopped their advance.

Dr. Vikram Sampath recounts how Maharaj Lalitaditya and a confederacy of Hindu rulers across Bharat resisted successive Arab campaigns and kept their expansion largely confined to Sindh for centuries. Who were these rulers? Why is their resistance missing from our classrooms? History did not lack heroes. Our textbooks lacked their stories.
