AB Rescued Within Minutes After 8-Metre Chain Locker Fall. Investigation Flags Communication Gaps in Hatch Operations.While working on an anchor handling vessel in port, an Able Seaman (AB) accidentally fell into an open chain locker that was about 8 meters deep during preparations for pre-lay operations. Fortunately, the AB only suffered a minor head injury and was rescued within five minutes thanks to the onboard emergency procedures.
