Oh, I don’t know if my pictures have made a mark on people, but I’ve been working consistently for five years now. I used to take pictures in another metaverse, and when I returned in 2019, some friends told me about Flickr and blogging. I created my Flickr account and I started to post some pictures.

After that, Magnificent's owner explained me how the Blogotex system works and how bloggers can apply to stores. I decided to apply to a few brands, and some of them gave me a chance to start in this amazing blogging world. I’m still working with several of my first sponsors today, and I’m so grateful to them!

My friend Elise Mersereau (Rezz Room's manager) supported and helped me a lot in this world.

As for the themes I like to work with, I think I’m more of a casual blogger not for LOTD (look of the day) but more for daily single or couple pictures. However, since meeting my lovely Emeline Laks, I’ve been exploring many different universes: fantasy, dark fantasy, medieval, cyber, steampunk, and… DINKIES, haha!

It’s really fun to discover new things, and I believe we learn more every day.

I also recently started taking black and white pictures and decor shots. I had never tried it before, but now I really enjoy it! The workflow is different, but it’s great to switch things up sometimes.

Your photography has a dynamic quality that often narrates a tale. Could you shed light on how you weave storytelling into your imagery?
Yes, I try to tell a story in my pictures now, but that wasn’t always the case. Sometimes, I just make a blog post because I lack inspiration or don’t have enough time to create a big composition.

I don't know if I can explain how my brain works to organize the items to blog and the story that can match with them. I think there are 2 ways: I start from the items that I have (the first idea could be clothing, backdrop or pose) and I try to combine them all because all of them make sense together. Or, I start from a specific idea and I try to find items in my different brands/events sponsors who fit with the idea.

Usually, when I see the new releases from my sponsors, I always make a note of myself somewhere which items could fit with other ones. Then, the theme is gradually taking shape and becoming clearer in my mind.

Oh, and I think facial expressions, body poses, lighting, and shadows are really important to make a picture feel dynamic and alive.

What are some of your go-to tools and techniques you use to elevate your images?
I talked about pose, lights, and shadows in the last question. I do it exclusively on Black Dragon, a third-party viewer.

I use the avatar poser on Black Dragon, it's the best way to adjust my pose how I want. For the shadows, I just play with the windlights. I change my windlight for each picture, I don't use one specifically. I like to have dark shadows and with a beautiful aesthetic. Then, I add some prims to make light with the edit mode. I adjust the color of the light according to the color panel of my pictures. I place them where there is supposed to be a source of light and in line with my shadows, of course. The depth of field (DOF) is a really cool tool too, it highlights the main scene in your work. For the composition, I try to get something harmonious, I think it's an important thing to have some basic knowledge of photogaphy (rule of thirds, complementary color, etc...)

After that, I edit my picture in Adobe Photoshop. I play a lot with white and black brush (on different layer mode) to add shadows and lights on different parts, with the colour balance to find the good vibe and recalibrate colours, the HDR toning to increase details and I add some overlay sometimes for a specific effect or some filters with an app phone.

Tell us about some of the other Residents in SL that inspire you and whose work you admire.
Oh my, so many talented artists here. I can't quote them all, but when I started to take pictures, I remember that I followed and liked the work of Renan Mckeenan, Edumetal Lavarock, Czarfenris, Roman Godde, Jay Fae - they inspired me a lot!

Then, I discovered photographers like Ethan Takeda, Dominic Darkmatter, Danna Boo, Nekotto, Stervaburi, Yoroo, Tab Tatham, Relatively Dismantled, Teal Aurelia, Panica Nova, Untitled and others (sorry if I don't put your name here, but I hope you know that I'm a fan of you all ♥).

My wife Emeline Laks helped me a lot to improve my work inworld. She made amazing unedited pictures so she made everything inworld and she gave me some tips for lights and Black Dragon tools. All of them gave me the motivation to try new things or at least the desire to improve (I don't necessarily have their talent haha). But I really love the realism in their work, the lighting is incredible, the power and delicacy at the same time.

And I don't want to forget all the incredible designers that inspire all of us to take pictures and who support us in our creativity.

Second Life Spotlight - Nadir Taov
https://community.secondlife.com/news/featured-news/second-life-spotlight-nadir-taov-r11174/

Today, we’re shining a spotlight on Nadir Taov, a visionary creator and community architect in Second Life, whose innovative worlds and immersive storytelling redefine the boundaries of virtual experiences.

How did you discover Second Life?
I stumbled into Second Life back in 2006 when my employer at the time announced they had launched a virtual campus in the metaverse. I logged in out of curiosity and never looked back. I was instantly hooked by the idea of building entire worlds from scratch and the magic of meeting people from all around the world. That spark lit a creative fire that still burns today.

You’re known as a community builder. What makes your themed roleplay communities stand out?
It’s all about immersion and storytelling. Since the beginning, I’ve been driven by the desire to bring people together through narrative roleplay. Second Life gives people the freedom to step into any identity - in my worlds, they become the main character in a story of their own making. My role is to craft environments that fuel those stories: layered, textured, alive.

Over the years, I’ve evolved from building with prims to creating detailed, system-rich worlds that go beyond just aesthetics. From weather systems, police/medical records, to dynamic NPCs and AI-assisted quests/encounters, everything is built with the intention to help players connect, create, and get lost in the story. I’m less interested in gamifying everything and more focused on honoring narrative-driven roleplay and the community’s collective creativity.

What inspired Alterscape, and how has it grown?
Alterscape is my creative umbrella - the home for the worlds I’ve poured myself into over the years. Each one explores a different genre but shares a common thread: deep immersion and player-driven stories.

Worlds Over the Years:

Crack Den – Urban / Street life

Shipyard – Sci-fi

Columtreal University – Campus life

Dead End City – Urban noir

Outbreak – Post-apocalyptic survival

Backwaters – Urban noir

Everwinter – Cyberpunk / Post-apocalyptic

Every world is a sandbox for storymakers.

Tell us about Everwinter - what sets it apart?
Everwinter is my most ambitious project yet. It’s a sprawling cyberpunk/post-apocalyptic world built for deep roleplay, cinematic experiences, and unexpected encounters. From brutalist architecture to persistent twilight skies, the environment is designed to make you feel small - and immersed.

Lifelike NPCs interact with players based on evolving lore and character relationships, making every exchange feel personal and earned. A companion known as the Wisp will serve as each player's guide - gently breaking the fourth wall when needed to support, hint, or nudge the story forward. The Story HUD is built from the ground up for narrative-based roleplay, designed to showcase character development and decisions. Encounters, our AI-powered quest system, help connect players in surprising, story rich ways.

It’s a living, breathing space that adapts with the community. Thanks to the potential of Project Zero and the latest fidelity upgrades on the platform, I’ve pushed the visuals to a new level - reflections in puddles, debris-strewn streets, and lighting that creates true mood. It’s gritty, beautiful, and built for story.

What’s next for you and Alterscape?
I’m circling back to my roots. Crack Den has been going strong for nearly 20 years and across 11 regions now, but it’s time for a renaissance. I’m rebuilding systems from the ground up - first responder roleplay, quests, criminal faction turf/trade, street-level storytelling - all reimagined with AI, new Discord integration, leveling mechanics, and actionable NPCs.
I want to bring Everwinter’s “living world” concept back to this urban world - where roleplay unfolds in crowds, and NPCs react with context, memory, and actions. And yes, full mesh and PBR are coming. It’s time to raise the bar while staying true to the world’s urban noir roots.

Who in Second Life inspires you creatively?
The communities within my worlds are my greatest source of inspiration. Watching players write their own stories, improvise in the moment, and evolve their characters amongst each other - it fuels everything I do. Their feedback shapes the worlds. Their creativity pushes me to keep building. I try my best to never take it for granted.

Beyond that, I’m constantly inspired by the broader creative community in Second Life - especially the filmmakers and storytellers who turn the Grid into something cinematic. We live in a metaverse where imagination takes the lead, and it’s incredible to see how residents bring these digital spaces to life.

Recently, Philip Linden talked about the power of world building as a collective act. That stuck with me. I’ve always weaved in builds and decor created by others to fill 25+ regions over time - pulling together assets, mesh, code, and art to build something cohesive and emotionally resonant. It’s not just about building a sim; it’s about building a stage for others to shine.

Here is a video I had created to honor Second Life and what I call the “Cinematic Metaverse”:

Second Life Spotlight - Kiana Writer
https://community.secondlife.com/news/featured-news/second-life-spotlight-kiana-writer-r11177/

Today, we’re shining a spotlight on Kiana Writer, the founder of MadPea, whose immersive adventures, compelling storytelling, and innovative spirit have left a lasting mark on Second Life for nearly two decades.

How long have you been in Second Life and how did you first hear about it?
I’ve been in Second Life for almost 18 years now… which sounds absolutely wild to say out loud. I first heard about it in the news, got super curious, logged in “just to see what it’s about”... found a super cool CSI game, amazing people and, well, here I still am nearly two decades later. Time really flies… and the best part is that I’m still absolutely loving it!

MadPea Productions in 2010 - video by Brett Linden

Can you share the origin story of MadPea and how it has evolved over the years?
I originally came into Second Life with the idea of learning more English. I wanted to write a book in English someday, and I figured a virtual environment would be a fun and immersive way to practice. Not long after, I realized the incredible creative potential this platform had, even though it wasn’t really built for games at the time.

I started talking about my ideas, connecting with like-minded people, and slowly those dreams began turning into reality. We built a few small games, and to our surprise, they started getting noticed. In 2008, Orange (RL telecom company) invited me to speak on a panel with seasoned game developers. I guess my passion for both storytelling and the platform came through, because they ended up partnering with us and sponsoring some of our biggest early games, like The Kaaos Effect. From there, it all just kept growing.

MadPea has now created over 100 immersive adventures, and we’re still going strong with plenty more stories to tell. I’ve been incredibly lucky to find a team that believes in my vision and shares the same enthusiasm for pushing creative boundaries.

These days, in addition to MadPea, I also co-own two home and garden brands, BackBone and aika, which give me a whole different creative outlet. I like to keep busy, and Second Life has been such an incredible space for bringing my ideas to life. It’s been my full-time job for several years now.

And no, I never did write that book... but maybe one day, when I retire!

MadPea Productions in 2015 - video by Draxtor Despres - UNIA THE GAME

What new projects, expansions, games, and events can fans of MadPea look forward to?
We now split our work into Unlimited Seasons, and we’re currently in Season 2! Each season brings a brand-new game, a grid-wide hunt, and a whole bunch of exciting products.

This season, we’re especially proud of The Great Heist - a brand new 14-day adventure designed with new users in mind. It’s cinematic, immersive, and honestly the biggest thing we’ve done in a while. I can’t wait for everyone to experience it!

Up next, we’re launching Crimson Clues, a murder mystery-themed grid-wide hunt where players will explore new locations, solve chilling cases, collect prizes, and meet fellow detectives. Action, murder, and mayhem are close to my heart… so get ready for some madness!

How has Second Life impacted your life?
Oh wow… how much space do I have?

Before I joined Second Life, I was in a really dark place; trapped in an abusive marriage, a prisoner in my own home, and with absolutely nothing to my name. Finding SL was like discovering a secret door to another world. Through the connections I made there, I slowly began to realize that the life I was living wasn’t normal, and more importantly, that there was a way out.
With time, a lot of sweat, tears, passion - and of course, the famous Finnish Sisu - I was able to build something from nothing. I created a company, found my voice, and reclaimed my life. I truly believe my story can inspire others: if I could do this, so can you! Believe in yourself, surround yourself with the right people, and work hard. The rest will come.

Second Life has been more than just a creative outlet for me. It’s given me deep friendships that turned into real-life connections, and it’s also become a way to give back. Through my companies, I’ve been able to provide jobs for an incredible team of talented people, helping them support themselves and their families. On top of that, I’ve had the chance to contribute to charity work both locally and globally, which is something I’m deeply passionate about.

I’m incredibly grateful. Second Life didn’t just change my life, it saved my life.

MadPea The Forsaken Funhouse - Video by Vrutega

Tell us about some of the other Residents in SL who inspire you and whose work you admire.
I’m probably Bryn Oh’s biggest fan. Her work is hauntingly beautiful, and every time our paths have crossed, I’ve walked away more inspired. Onyx Core from Dragoos, who’s working on something big and I cannot wait to see it. Walton Wainwright from Contraption, Apple Fall, Dust Bunny to name a few… they’re absolute legends in my book.

Ultra Rizzler - my talented right hand, the one I can always count on and my Lil Cutie sidekick, who’s still learning, but I can already see big things ahead for her.

Of course, my ride-or-die MadPea Crew. They put up with me every day (which deserves its own medal, honestly) and somehow keep creating mind-blowing stuff.

A huge shout-out to the event organizers as well. I honestly don’t know how they keep everything running so smoothly, it’s impressive.

There are so many incredible people I could mention, but really, it's the dreamers and the doers, those who pour their heart and soul into bringing their visions to life in this world, that truly make Second Life the vibrant place it is.

Welcome to Aspen Ridge: A Living Mountain Escape & A New Chapter for Linden Homes
https://community.secondlife.com/news/featured-news/welcome-to-aspen-ridge-a-living-mountain-escape-a-new-chapter-for-linden-homes-r11179/

A breathtaking new Linden Homes theme has just arrived—and it’s unlike anything before.

Aspen Ridge is now available to Premium Residents. Nestled deep in the mountain highlands of Bellisseria, this forested neighborhood invites you into a tranquil world of tall pines, winding trails, and homes designed to blend naturally into their alpine surroundings. It’s peaceful. It’s immersive. It’s the kind of place where time doesn’t just pass—it flows.

These aren’t your typical homes. Aspen Ridge features six unique floorplans, from tall A-frames and rustic modern cabins to expansive lodges with wide porches perfect for watching the seasons roll by. Each home feels intentional, textured, and grounded—crafted for those who love the quiet majesty of the mountains.

And then there's the real magic: Aspen Ridge is our first seasonal Linden Home theme. The environment changes naturally over time. Spring arrives with soft green light, then slowly fades into golden autumns and snow-dusted winters. Summer brings vibrant greens and long shadows. No toggles. No menus. The world just… shifts. And so do you, along with it.

The terrain tells a story, too. It curves and flows with the land. You might turn a corner and find a hidden stream or a quiet forest clearing. Living here is less about choosing a house—and more about discovering your place in a living, breathing landscape.

Now’s the Perfect Time to Make the Move

With the release of Aspen Ridge and other recent Linden Homes, we’re entering a new era. As previously announced, we’re beginning the phased retirement of all legacy Linden Homes. If you’re still living in one of those original styles, it’s time to start thinking about your next chapter.

Change can feel bittersweet—but it also opens the door to something fresh, personalized, and fully in step with the latest experiences Second Life has to offer. Whether you’re looking for cozy charm, sleek modernism, rustic vibes, or something more whimsical, there’s a new Linden Home waiting to match your style.

Need help finding a similar feel to your current home? Here are a few ideas:

Fantasy: Perfect for residents coming from Elderglen, this theme offers a whimsical and enchanting escape full of charm and magic.

Campers, Log Homes, and Chalets: A fantastic choice for those who love the rustic and outdoorsy feel of the Tahoe region.

Sakura: A peaceful and elegantly designed Japanese-inspired setting, ideal for residents of Shareta Osumai.

Newbrooke: A sleek and contemporary option for those transitioning from Meadowbrook who prefer clean lines and modern architecture.

Upgrading Is Easy

Visit your current Linden Home and open the World menu.

Select About Land, then navigate to the General tab.

Click Abandon Land to release your current home and make space for your next adventure.

Go to Linden Homes and explore the available home styles. Once you find the one that speaks to you, claim your new home and start decorating.

While we don’t have an exact date, legacy homes will be reclaimed soon. Upgrading early gives you more options and a smoother transition—so don’t wait too long.

LindeX Limited-Time Offer: One Penny Buy Fees are Here!
https://community.secondlife.com/news/featured-news/lindex-limited-time-offer-one-penny-buy-fees-are-here-r11181/

For a Limited Time: All Buy Fees Reduced to a Penny!

Times are tough for a lot of people, so we've come up with one way to make things a little easier: Second Life is launching a special LindeX limited-time offer – a chance to make Linden Dollar (L$) Buy fees nearly disappear for a limited time!

While the global economy wrestles with rising tariffs and tense trade talks, we’re responding with a bold, Resident-first promotion: we're charging just a penny for your LindeX buy fees for the next 2 days. We’re committed to you - our Residents - through these challenging times, and we will continue to stand by you as we have over the past 22 years.

Here’s what’s changing:
Starting today at 12:30PM SLT and for the next 50 hours, all L$ purchases - whether through Market Buy, Limit Buy or right in the Viewer - will incur only a one cent fee. Yes, you read that right. Just US$0.01 per transaction.

Compare that to the standard buy fee of 10%, with a minimum of $1.49 and a max of $14.99—this is an unprecedented cut designed to empower Residents, stimulate activity, and boost in-world trade. This is a one-time only opportunity that won’t come around again, so you’ll need to act fast if you want to stock up on Linden Dollars and save.

Whether you're saving up for a shopping spree, investing in land, tipping your favorite performer, or just want to save some L$ for later, now’s the perfect time to buy. Even your AO couldn’t walk away from this.

Quick Refresher:

LindeX is Second Life’s only official exchange for buying and selling Linden Dollars.

Market Buy lets you purchase L$ instantly at the best available exchange rate.

Limit Buy allows you to name your own exchange rate and wait for a seller to match it.

L$ can be used across Second Life or sold on the LindeX for USD to fund your real-life wallet.

Learn more about the LindeX and buying and selling Linden Dollars in our Knowledge Base.

Why temporarily reduce the fees?

Things have been tough on a lot of people lately. We want to help ease some burdens and give an outlet for creativity and an escape from real-world hardships.

But like all good things, this promotion won’t last forever. So don’t wait—take advantage of this opportunity to make your money work harder while boosting your L$ balance before the clock runs out at 2:30pm SLT on April 18th.

Visit the LindeX to get started - and/or you can buy L$ right from within the Viewer by clicking the “Buy L$” button.

Stay tuned for more updates - and thank you for being part of the Second Life community!

FAQ

Q: What if I place a Limit Buy order before promo runs out but it fills afterwards?
A: No Dice. Promotional pricing is only guaranteed on orders that are placed and complete within the designated time window. If a Limit Buy takes longer than the promotional period to fill, it may not get the promotional 1c fee.

Q: Can I buy a billion gazillion Linden Dollars?
A: Lindex Trading Limits still apply.

Q: I have an open Limit Buy order that hasn't been filled, can I cancel it and place a new one?
A: We understand wanting to take advantage of the promo! However, canceling a Limit Buy order placed before the promotional period could lead to complications, which would require help from our support team. To avoid any issues or delays, we recommend keeping your current order as-is. You are, of course, able to place a new order at any time.

Q: Will I still pay the sell fee for selling Linden Dollars during the promotional period?
A: Yes, normal Lindex sell fees will still apply.

Q: Why can’t you just change the exchange rate and hold it steady?
A: Linden Lab does not fix the exchange rate. The LindeX is an exchange between buyers and sellers - we just match the orders placed.

Q: OMG I missed it! Will you run another promo again soon?
A: This is a ONE TIME ONLY promotion.

Second Life Spotlight - Luke Rowley
https://community.secondlife.com/news/featured-news/second-life-spotlight-luke-rowley-r11183/

Today, we’re shining a spotlight on Luke Rowley, an innovative developer in Second Life who has seamlessly blended his passion for scripting with real-world applications, creating indispensable tools like EasyBloggers and Primfeed.

How long have you been in Second Life and how did you first hear about it?
I've been a resident for 18 years now, and my brother introduced me to Second Life. Back then, I was already playing some online games. After seeing my brother building some silly things in a sandbox, it sounded fun, so I created my first avatar!

How did you initially get involved with scripting in Second Life, and what inspired you to develop practical tools for the community?
Over the years, my brother occasionally played Second Life, and eventually, he started creating scripted objects. This got my attention, and I wanted to understand how it worked and how it was done. A few days after that, I made my first script: It was a simple cube, and when an avatar clicked on it, it added that avatar to the parcel ban list. Good times!

I kept going with scripting, creating a role-playing HUD to trade money between avatars and an interactive combat meter with spells and a web-based interface to change the characteristics of your character. I finally met some designers from stores who needed scripts for their creations, and it got me into making custom scripts for store owners and tools to support their creations. I loved doing that for stores because what I enjoy the most about code is making anything feel alive, especially in Second Life. Smoke and fire in a fireplace, a coffee machine with a HUD to choose the flavor you want.

EasyBloggers - Products page

What was the driving force behind the creation of EasyBloggers, and how has the platform evolved?
During my professional career as a software developer, I've developed a deep interest in products and interfaces: How a website feels when you first use it or how easy and good-looking the interface is.

After the years I have spent working with store owners, I wanted to build something useful and web-based for them. At the time, bloggers management systems were already a thing with one big product in place, but what if there was something different to do and bring to the market?

During the beta and at launch, EasyBloggers had fewer features than the other systems at the time but it was built differently: It was a good looking platform, exclusively based on feedback from the store owners. It was easy to use, and it was enough to get the first stores onboard.

Today, EasyBloggers has grown and received many updates, and it's now tightly integrated with Primfeed! Residents can subscribe to a store's newsletter directly from the store's profile and request demos from bloggers' posts. You can even see bloggers' pictures from the store page.

EasyBloggers - Posts page

Tell us about Primfeed and the motivation behind creating a dedicated social media platform for Second Life users. What challenges did you face, and how have you addressed them?
Primfeed is a dedicated social media for Second Life residents, and all its features and systems are created with Second Life's complexity and nuances in mind.

I consume social media myself, and sometimes, I want to browse Second Life content. However, with today's social media, 80% of your feeds are sponsored, suggested content, and RL content. There is no way to filter what you want to see at the moment, and there are very few posts of what you follow or remotely what you are interested in. It was frustrating, and I knew that someday, I would love to have something entirely dedicated to Second Life.
