Protect Your Account: Never Share Your Account ID or Buy L$ from Other Residents

Second Life is a vibrant virtual world built on trust and creativity. However, as in any online environment, bad actors occasionally try to take advantage of that trust. We have recently gone through a reorganization, creating our Trust & Safety team which is focused on addressing issues that threaten to erode that trust. Through the investigations of this team, we’ve seen an increase in fraudulent activity involving compromised accounts and illegitimate Linden Dollar (L$) transactions. To protect yourself and your fellow Residents, it’s crucial to understand why you should never share your account ID or buy L$ directly from another Resident even if they’re a friend.
The Scam: How Fraudulent L$ Transactions Work
Bad actors compromise a Resident’s account, often by obtaining their login credentials through phishing attempts, weak passwords, or reused passwords from other sites. Once they gain access, they use the account to send messages to people on their friends’ list, offering to sell L$ at a discount, or asking for help to buy L$ from them because of real-world troubles.
The unsuspecting friend buys the L$, often sending real USD through PayPal, Venmo, or another service, only to later discover that the L$ they received were fraudulently obtained. When we detect fraudulent activity, we must reverse those transactions, meaning that the victim loses both their real money and the L$ they thought they had purchased.
Only Buy L$ Through Linden Lab
To keep your transactions safe, always buy Linden Dollars through Linden Lab:
✅ The LindeX Exchange (accessible through the Second Life website)
✅ “Buy L$” button in the viewer
This ensures that all L$ are legitimate and that your purchases are protected. Buying from unauthorized sources, even well-meaning friends, can lead to losing your money , your L$, and potentially your account.
How to Protect Yourself and Your Friends
Never buy L$ from another Resident. If a friend offers to sell you L$, politely decline and let them know it’s against policy.
Be skeptical of sudden financial offers. If a friend messages you with an unsolicited offer involving L$, their account may be compromised.
Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). This adds an extra layer of security to your account and helps prevent unauthorized access.
Change your password, using a strong, unique password or passcode for your Second Life account. Never reuse passwords from other websites.
Report suspicious activity. If you think an account has been compromised, report it immediately by filing an Abuse Report.
What to Do If You’ve Been Affected
If you’ve purchased L$ from another Resident and suspect the transaction was fraudulent, please contact Second Life Support right away. We can investigate and help secure your account if needed.
If you have received a request for money from another Resident whose account you believe may be compromised, please contact Support as soon as possible.

4. PRIZES & PRIZE DISTRIBUTION
Each selected winner will receive a March MegaWheel Ticket, granting access to a secret inworld location where they will participate in a Spin & Win Event. The MegaWheel has 48 wedges with the following prize distribution:

If unresolved, disputes will be settled through binding arbitration under the American Arbitration Association (AAA) rules, with arbitration taking place in San Francisco, California, USA.
Winning entrants outside the U.S. may alternatively pursue local consumer dispute resolution mechanisms where applicable.
8. PRIVACY & DATA PROTECTION
Entrants’ personal data will be collected solely for the administration of the Promotion and will be handled in accordance with Sponsor’s Privacy Policy and applicable data protection laws (including GDPR for EU entrants).

This year’s Birthday theme is Myths and Legends. It reflects the Second Life experience because we are all the heroes of our own adventures! The emphasis is on the characters and stories people create in SL both personally and within their communities.
Just like last year, your exhibit does not need to stay in theme. Share your Second Life passions with us. Your interests. Your communities. Your world! Every year we celebrate because of you, the amazing and creative Residents who have chosen to call Second Life home. What has drawn you into this world, and what keeps you here? These annual festivities are an opportunity to show us what fuels your Second Life. Let's celebrate that together!

SLua stands for Second Life Lua, a language based on Luau (originally developed by Roblox), extended to harness the full power of Second Life’s existing functions. Think of it as LSL’s more powerful, versatile new cousin—offering you more flexibility, cleaner syntax, and features that make coding dramatically simpler.
We are excited to announce an early-access Alpha of SLua on Second Life's beta grid, Aditi. Interested in learning more? View the SLua Alpha wiki page. 📝 Be aware that in its alpha stage, SLua is intentionally slower than it will be during production rollout due to debugging intrumentation.

First-Class Functions
In SLua, functions are treated like any other data type. That means you can pass them around as arguments, store them in tables, or even create callbacks for highly modular and dynamic code. If you’ve ever wanted to change a script’s behavior on the fly, this opens up a world of possibilities.
Coroutines
Forget juggling timers or wrestling with complex state machines. Coroutines let you pause and resume scripts in a smooth, intuitive way—perfect for multi-step tasks like animations, rezzing sequences, or making web requests.
🔪 Beware: Sharp Edges
SLua scripting is in early development. Memory and performance characteristics, and API specifics may change! Regions will crash and it's possible you may lose content if you don't save often into inventory when working on the beta grid. We are releasing this feature now to garner feedback from scripters, tinkerers and creatives to help drive development forward.

1. Download the Project Viewer
We’ve released a special Project Viewer with SLua-enabled scripting. Click here to view Alternate Viewers and download the Second Life Project Lua Editor viewer.
2. Access the Beta Grid (Aditi)
Make sure your Viewer shows the Beta Grid in your login options. To do this, go to Preferences > Advanced and select “Show grid selection at login.” Then, log into Aditi—you might need to log in twice the first time so your inventory can properly sync.

3. Visit the SLua Sandbox Regions

Winners will be notified in-world and granted a VIP Ticket to participate in the exclusive Spin & Win Event.
4. PRIZES & PRIZE DISTRIBUTION
Each selected winner will receive a March MegaWheel Ticket, granting access to a secret inworld location where they will participate in a Spin & Win Event. The MegaWheel has 48 wedges with the following prize distribution:
L$10,000 (15 slots) – approx. $40 USD
L$20,000 (12 slots) – approx. $80 USD
L$50,000 (10 slots) – approx. $200 USD
L$100,000 (5 slots) – approx. $400 USD
L$200,000 (3 slots) – approx. $800 USD
L$300,000 (2 slots) – approx. $1,200 USD
L$1,000,000 (1 slot) – approx. $4,000 USD
Total theoretical giveaway: L$31,000,000, though the actual amount awarded will vary based on spin outcomes.
Taxes, Duties & Fees:
Winners are responsible for any applicable taxes, duties, or fees.
U.S. winners receiving prizes valued over $600 USD must submit a Form W-9 and will receive a Form 1099-MISC. Non-U.S. winners must submit a W-8BEN.
5. WINNER NOTIFICATION
Potential winners will be notified in-world within 48 hours of selection.
Winners must claim their prize by attending a scheduled Spin & Win Event.
Failure to claim the prize may result in forfeiture, and an alternate winner may be selected.
6. GENERAL CONDITIONS
By participating, entrants agree that:
Sponsor has the right to use winners' Second Life usernames, country of residence, and avatar likeness for promotional purposes (unless prohibited by law).
Sponsor is not liable for any claims, damages, or injuries arising from participation in the Promotion or use of a prize.
If the Promotion is disrupted due to fraud, technical failures, or external interference, Sponsor may cancel, modify, or suspend the Promotion at its discretion.
7. DISPUTE RESOLUTION
Except where prohibited by law, all disputes shall be resolved as follows:
Winning entrants agree to attempt informal resolution with Sponsor.
If unresolved, disputes will be settled through binding arbitration under the American Arbitration Association (AAA) rules, with arbitration taking place in San Francisco, California, USA.
Winning entrants outside the U.S. may alternatively pursue local consumer dispute resolution mechanisms where applicable.
8. PRIVACY & DATA PROTECTION
Entrants’ personal data will be collected solely for the administration of the Promotion and will be handled in accordance with Sponsor’s Privacy Policy and applicable data protection laws (including GDPR for EU entrants).
9. WINNERS LIST
To request a list of winners (available after April 15, 2025), send an email to editor@lindenlab.com with "March Mobile Millions WINNER" in the subject line. Winners will have the option of sharing their Second Life username in the winners list (instead of their real name).

Hello Second Life Residents,
We want to remind you about an upcoming update to Second Life’s infrastructure. The SSL certificate for the Second Life Production Grid is set to expire on April 16, 2025 02:40 GMT. To ensure a smooth transition, we will be rolling out an updated SSL certificate to the BlueSteel release channel Wednesday before fully deploying it grid-wide.
If you’d like to test in advance, you can preview these changes now on the Beta Grid (Aditi). A more technical thread in our Server forums covers this in much more detail. This early testing allows residents and developers to verify that their viewers, scripts, and integrations work as expected before the new certificate is deployed to the main grid.
We do not anticipate any disruptions, but as always, we appreciate your feedback and reports of any unexpected behavior. Stay tuned for further updates as we get closer to the full rollout.
