Marketplace Backend Upgrade
https://community.secondlife.com/news/featured-news/marketplace-backend-upgrade-r11223/
Hello, everyone! We're writing to let you know about a significant backend upgrade we have planned to improve the overall performance and reliability of Second Life Marketplace. This upgrade is a crucial step in ensuring a smoother and more stable experience for all of you.
What This Means for Your Shopping Cart
Due to the technical nature of this upgrade, there is a possibility that your shopping cart may be emptied during the transition.
We want to make sure you don't lose any of the items you've saved. Therefore, we highly recommend that you take action over the next month to buy or save your planned purchases.
What You Should Do Now
We'll be performing the upgrade on November 3. To avoid any disappointment, we ask that you do one of the following before then:
Purchase your items: Go ahead and complete your transaction for the items currently in your cart. This is the surest way to secure them.
Move items to your Wishlist: Our wishlist feature is a great alternative for saving items you're not ready to buy yet. Any items on your wishlist will be safe from the shopping cart data wipe.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to make Second Life an even better place for everyone. Thank you for being a part of our amazing community!

https://community.secondlife.com/news/featured-news/why-premium-plus-without-stipend-might-be-your-perfect-match-r11224/
We just launched something new in Second Life: Premium Plus at a fraction of the cost!
Think of it as Premium Plus’ cost-conscious sibling—all the perks, just without the weekly allowance. And it might be exactly what you’ve been waiting for. Here’s why:
1. Enjoy the Perks of Premium Plus – Now at a Lower Price!
You’ll still enjoy access to up to 150 groups, the largest selection of Linden Homes, higher land allowances, free or reduced fees on several of our most popular features, priority concierge phone support, exclusive gifts and sandboxes, and much more. The only thing you won’t get is the weekly L$ stipend and signup bonus—which means you’re paying less for the same perks offered in our current Premium Plus tier.
Learn more about all paid membership plans and compare for yourself.
2. The Sweet Spot Between Premium and Premium Plus
Here’s how it stacks up when you choose annual billing:
Plus: $5.50/month
Premium: $8.25/month
BEST VALUE!: Premium Plus (without stipend): $11.99/month
Premium Plus (with stipend): $20.75/month
Finally—an option that gives you top-tier benefits without the full cost.
3. Built for Every Kind of Resident
Creators & Merchants: Unlock more groups, more land, and lower fees.
Shoppers & Socializers: Priority access to events and exclusive gifts.
Explorers & Roleplayers: More flexibility to make your mark with the tools that matter most.
Whatever your Second Life, there’s no stipend required to enjoy the top-tier perks - now at the lowest price ever!
4. The Freedom to Choose
Not everyone needs or wants a weekly allowance. Now, for the first time, you can choose your membership level based on how you actually use Second Life. Still want a monthly stipend? No worries - you can still select our classic Premium Plus plan with the full stipend – the choice is yours!
5. Save Even More with the Annual Plan
At $11.99/month (billed annually), the new Premium Plus stipend-free plan is the most affordable way to unlock everything Premium Plus offers. If you prefer flexibility, the monthly option is just $15.99.
The Bottom Line
Whatever you choose, the new offering of Premium Plus without the stipend is just another way for you to enjoy Second Life on your own terms. Second Life as always remains free to play, but now you’ve got even more ways to unlock the enhanced experience you’ve been waiting for.

Mobile Update: October 2025 - Everything's Faster and Better!
https://community.secondlife.com/news/featured-news/mobile-update-october-2025-everythings-faster-and-better-r11225/
New Android and iOS Beta builds released Monday, October 13th
We've spent the past few months working on significant improvements to the mobile experience. The app now handles network transitions better, runs more efficiently, and includes several new features. All-in-all, we’ve made over 800 changes under the hood.
Here are some highlights:
Avatars & Scene
Avatars and the world load noticeably faster now; in some cases, loading times have been reduced by over 80%! We fixed an issue where outfits wouldn't update properly when changed, and name tags now display consistently. The "silhouette" phase has been reduced from a minimum of 5 seconds to 2 seconds (as long as everything has been downloaded), so you'll see actual avatars sooner.
Overall, the system is more reliable and uses less memory; which means you can use the app for longer.
Improved Lighting
We've implemented a new lighting engine that brings mobile visuals closer to the desktop experience; we’ve improved our support for Windlight and EEP profiles. Edges are smoother thanks to Temporal Anti-Aliasing, and transparent objects render more accurately by default. The visual quality improvement is substantial, particularly in themed areas - just in time for Halloween!
Improved lighting on the left vs in previous release on the right
We also now load the same ‘time of day’ overrides the desktop viewer uses - so those should work better too.
Performance Optimization
The app now manages resources under the hood more efficiently:
Reduced memory usage during extended sessions
Better performance that degrades less over time
Faster mesh and texture loading
More efficient network usage
For you, this should mean your phones remain colder, with higher battery life, and more responsiveness in the app as you use it.
Connection Stability
Brief disconnections are also handled much better - the app now recovers missed messages even in extended disconnections. The connection status indicator is actually accurate now (and will also show when latency is high), and teleporting between regions is more reliable. We also fixed login issues that would sometimes occur after recent logouts.
Interface Updates
Sign Out option is back in the main menu
Movement joystick remains visible at all times
Camera reset button (see more below!)
Chat scrolling works properly
Better handling of screen notches and safe areas
Smoother camera movement after teleports
Notable Bug Fixes
Replaced the streaming audio system for better reliability
Fixed frozen or permanently rotating objects (llTargetOmega)
Resolved position errors after teleporting
Landmark and navigation buttons work consistently
Fixed Android UI alignment issues
New Features
Enhanced Camera Controls
First-person view is now available via pinch-to-zoom. Swipe with two fingers to detach and freely move the camera. The reset button returns the camera to its default position behind your avatar.
Achievement System
You can now earn achievement badges for reaching various milestones. View your progress in Menu > Streaks. The feature is enabled by default but can be turned off if preferred.
See you in-world!
If you haven’t already, download the mobile app! [GET SECOND LIFE MOBILE]

How long have you been in Second Life, and how did you first hear about it?
I discovered Second Life by chance while browsing YouTube in 2009, and this year marks my 16th year exploring its virtual world. Creating an account opened my eyes to the limitless possibilities it offers, and those possibilities continue to inspire me to this day. Since then, I have been completely immersed in this magical place. It is a decision I remain deeply grateful for, as it has profoundly changed my life.
How did you first get into creating machinima in Second Life? Do you have a background in video editing or other creative fields outside of SL?
I began experimenting with short video clips in Second Life in 2016, at first just for fun. But I soon realized that creating videos there gave me an incredible emotional experience that felt peaceful, liberating, and even healing. From that moment, I kept making videos for myself and my close friends. I graduated from the Bandung Institute of Technology with a major in Visual Communication Design, and I still vividly remember a college film project where I had to create a storyboard. That experience felt truly amazing. It was a real “voilà” moment when I finally discovered the answer I had been searching for: I wanted to become a film director. After graduation, I learned how challenging it would be to pursue that dream in real life. I worked as a Graphic Designer at a national television network and several advertising agencies. Yet through Second Life, I found a way to bring my dream of becoming a film director to life. I remain deeply grateful to Second Life for opening this path for me and helping turn my dream into reality.
Your videos have such a cinematic and immersive feel. What inspires your storytelling and style when you’re filming?
My storytelling style has been profoundly shaped by the works of Giuseppe Tornatore, Zhang Yimou, and Kazuhiro Furuhashi. Visually, I draw deep inspiration from Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy X. I am fascinated by the visual language of storytelling, the subtle messages expressed through gestures, facial expressions, and camera angles. Conveying complex emotions without relying on dialogue allows me to use movement and composition to guide the viewer’s attention and emotional response. From the filming stage to the final edit, every frame carries a piece of my emotion. Perhaps that is why many viewers say they can truly feel the heart behind my videos.
What tools and workflow do you use for filming and post-production? Any favorite techniques for smooth camera work, lighting, or color?
My creative process is mostly spontaneous, unfolding without a fixed storyboard. The story often takes shape on the spot. I use Xbox Recorder for filming and edit with a combination of Adobe Premiere Pro and CapCut. I particularly enjoy the smooth and slow camera movements of the Firestorm viewer, which give my videos a steady and refined feel. For lighting, I rely on windlight settings created by Specter Skies and sometimes add custom beam lights that I design myself. Color grading is adjusted to match the mood and theme of each video. I also prefer to keep visual effects minimal so that viewers can stay focused on the story and the message behind it.
Do you have any tips or advice for Residents who want to start creating machinima of their own?
Be authentic, and don’t give up easily. Keep your passion for learning alive and never grow complacent. Support your fellow videomakers, seeing them not as competitors but as collaborators. Share knowledge with them and keep learning from one another, because growth happens most deeply through shared creativity. Stay humble always, remembering that your skills are not yours alone but gifts graciously entrusted to you by God.
Tell us about some of the other Residents in SL who inspire you and whose work you admire.

Tell us about some of the other Residents in SL who inspire you and whose work you admire.
My greatest inspiration is my Second Life partner, YKZ Dylan, who has been a professional videomaker for more than ten years. I have always admired his work and his remarkable talent. I consider him one of the key pillars of Second Life machinima. When I first met him in 2020, he showed me that videography in Second Life could be more than just a hobby and could grow into a promising career. At that time, I was still creating videos for fun and editing them on my phone. He encouraged me to move my editing process to a PC and to pursue videography professionally in Second Life. From him, I learned not only the importance of professionalism but also the mental resilience needed to face the many challenges of this creative path. Even today, he continues to inspire me and reminds me that dedication, skill, and passion can truly turn dreams into reality.
I would also like to express my deepest gratitude to my fellow videographers for their incredible support of my Second Life journey: Any Souza, Meng, Jet Bates, Kelie Ladys, Lipe Vortex, Maia Lyre, Sergio Castellanos, Godiva Varela, Tia Merchant, Aki Gunshin, Caligula Aquila, Pearl Winchester, Velbons, Sunset Dreamscape, Bin Marei, Ines Dark, Glaucia, and many others. My heartfelt appreciation also goes to Nathally Shine and The Rockefeller Club for their support during the early stages of my career, as well as to my dearest friends MiuMira, Kiara Shandiva, Linda, and Dara, who have stood by me through thick and thin.
Lastly, my gratitude extends to all the amazing supporters of my videos, too many to mention individually. This is where the true magic of Second Life shines. It is not only a beautiful virtual world but also one of the most supportive communities anyone could wish for. Thank you, Second Life, for giving me such a beautiful second world.

Second Life Spotlight - Any Bergan
https://community.secondlife.com/news/featured-news/second-life-spotlight-any-bergan-r11231/
Today, we’re shining a spotlight on Any Bergan, a creative force in the machinima community whose videos celebrate the artistry and imagination of Second Life.
How long have you been in Second Life, and how did you first hear about it?
I've been in Second Life since 2007. My ex-husband told me about the game. He's a journalist and saw some articles about it. He knew I was interested in the gaming world and, since I'd be spending my holidays at home, he saw it as an entertainment option for me. At the time, I knew nothing about Second Life, and it was great not knowing! I intensely experienced each discovery, each possibility!
My first avatar was called Tati Write (something like that). Then I had another avatar, called Tati Magic. With this one, I had some disappointments at the time; I wasn't lucky and ended up closing the account. The fact is that even during this not-so-great period, the game never lost its charm for me. When I recovered from this phase, I decided to give SL another chance, with a new avatar, Any Bergan.
What led you to start creating machinima in Second Life, and how did you discover your passion for it?
When I started over as Any Bergan, I decided that I would find a new goal in the game. I started as a model and spent my time looking for various types of shops. After that, I became interested in clubs. I went to many parties, and then it was a short step to opening my own club. It lasted a year and was called Inthecool, a very beautiful place. At this stage, I continued to keep up with the search for clothing and accessory stores and started taking a lot of photos in Inthecool with my outfits. Some people said I had an artistic eye, that I should become a blogger. I actually did become one, but at the same time I admired the work of Kiria Velour, who at the time recorded and edited for major Second Life brands, and my friend and mentor Candido Ferraris, who made the Inthecool opening video and enchanted me not only with the video itself, but with his artistic vision and skill in deciphering the use of Viewers (Firestorm, Blackdragon...). Nobody knows more about the game's tools than him!
So I started looking for tutorials on YouTube that taught the basics of video editing. In addition, Candido and Kiria were very kind in helping me discover the world of editing, the Adobe world. I started recording parties in Inthecool, then I made fashion editorial videos for the blog, and that's how Kiria invited me to take on some of the work she was doing. Since she was starting to work with skin, she saw in me someone who could handle such productions. That's how I started filming... events, stores, and especially dance videos, which are my passions (I was a ballerina as a child, I have a very strong connection with rhythms and dances).
Under the Sea by Any Bergan (watch the video on Flickr)
Many Residents are curious about making their own machinima. What guidance would you offer to someone just getting started?
I think residents who want to start their machinimas should look for an editing tool that makes them feel comfortable and secure. I found this comfort in Adobe Premiere. But there are many other options, such as CapCut Pro itself. Try different programs and applications until you find the one that suits you best.
Oh, and for recording, I use the tool from my own video card, the Nvidia app.
I also want to share my friend Candido Ferraris' YouTube page, which has been incredibly helpful in teaching me many tricks about lighting, setup, mirroring, and everything else!
Second Life is known for bringing people together from all over the world. What has community and connection in SL meant to you personally?

That's how I started filming... events, stores, and especially dance videos, which are my passions (I was a ballerina as a child, I have a very strong connection with rhythms and dances).

I'm enchanted by SL. The game truly makes me very happy. Since 2007. Since I traveled on a holiday to visit Rio de Janeiro, to the house of a sister-friend I met in SL. Since I met my real-life husband in SL. Since I had my son, now 11 years old, the result of a marriage in SL. Since I improved my English (it still has a long way to go, you know? lol) by having friends who live in other countries and had all the patience in the world to talk to me in English. Since I was able to expand my horizons and discover this new skill of producing and editing videos. I only take good experiences from SL, because through it I made incredible connections and learned so much! I fell in love with it! I'm so happy here!

Tell us about some of the other Residents in SL who inspire you and whose work you admire.
I've already mentioned two above who inspire me and have propelled me in my career as a video producer in SL, namely Kiria Velour and Candido Ferraris. But I have many friends in the game whose work I greatly admire, and the camaraderie is magnificent. I also had the opportunity to become friends with Vrutega, a great supporter of my art, who always helped me with tips, shared experiences, and especially helped me believe in myself and my potential. Furthermore, he was a huge influence as a storytelling producer, with extreme creativity and professionalism!
And also, I have immense admiration and affection for the wide smile of my favorite Frenchwoman Kelie Ladys, for the delicacy and generosity of Sabina Valeska, for the sense of humor and dedication of my friend Lipe Vortex, for the sweetness and respect that Lozza Weymann shows us, and for the entire SL Video Maker community that helps and strengthens each other.
Where can people see your work? Please share links to your sites and social media accounts.
Of course!!! You can find me at any of these links: https://linktr.ee/anybergan
I would like to thank you for the invitation and conclude by saying that I am very happy to have discovered and played Second Life! Everyone should have this opportunity!
Thank you, Any, for sharing your story and for filling Second Life with your artistry, warmth, and inspiring spirit of connection.

Second Life Spotlight - Izzie Button
https://community.secondlife.com/news/featured-news/second-life-spotlight-izzie-button-r11232/
Today, we’re shining a spotlight on Izzie Button, the creator behind Izzie’s, whose innovative body modifications have helped Residents personalize their avatars in countless unique ways.
How long have you been in Second Life, and how did you first hear about it?
I joined SL in May 2009, so I have been in Second Life for 16 years and 5 months now! At that time, I was a student with lots of free time. I first heard about SL on a TV show, which made me curious. So I created an account to see what all the hype was about.
What inspired you to start creating skins, tattoos, and other body modifications for avatars?
My passion for creating began 16 years ago when I made my first SL item, a simple spotlight set made of prims. I was curious how the SL building tools worked, and I thought, “Spotlights sound easy enough, a simple project to start with!” Little did I know it would be anything but easy! It took ages to get the results I wanted; there was so much to learn, but when I finally did, I was incredibly proud of it. I put the spotlights on SLExchange (now SL Marketplace) as a dollarbie, and to my surprise, they actually started selling! That feeling of creating something people liked enough to buy completely hooked me. So I wondered if I could do fashion as well. I’ve always found the freebie clothes I was wearing back then so plain and lifeless, so I learned how to do my own clothes, and I wanted them to be shiny and have lots of wrinkles. That’s how it all started.
It fascinated me that everything I saw in SL was created by residents like me, and I thought if others can do it, maybe I can too. So I taught myself how to do it by watching/reading tutorials, lots of patience, time, and trial and error. I created items for my own taste and needs and put them on the Marketplace to see if others might like them too; and they did!
I used to think I’d always be a clothing creator, but things evolved naturally in other directions. After clothing came full-perm textures, poses, furniture, shoes, jewelry, bags, accessories, glasses, nails, landscaping items, and later on, skins, cosmetics, makeup, eyes, lashes, and more. Through it all, I discovered that texturing and body/face customization are what I truly enjoy most, and my customers’ feedback confirmed it.
How did you develop your signature style when it comes to avatar customization?
My signature style is a reflection of my personal taste, customer needs and trends, life circumstances and Second Life developments (like BakesOnMesh, 2K BOM) over the years. It is not something set in stone for me and it has changed a lot over the years and probably will keep changing. Right now, with most of my releases I prefer natural, soft looks with subtle colors and realistic “imperfections” that give avatars individuality. I enjoy creating useful, timeless items I’d wear myself, as well as fun, messy touches that add character. Longevity matters a lot to me. Some of my best selling items date back to 2016 or earlier, and due to regular updates, they remain current and relevant.
Customer feedback has always played a big role in my creative process. I actively engage with my customers, value their insights, and let their perspectives inspire me while still staying true to my own style and principles. I only create what feels right to me, but I always keep the customer experience in mind.
Having experienced Second Life from different perspectives, as a creator, collaborator, freelancer, blogger, and customer, also helped me find my place and direction in SL. I think doing what you personally like and feel right for you is always a good starting point; the rest develops from there.
What are some of your favorite items you’ve created?

What are some of your favorite items you’ve created?
I love creating messy, playful looks - dirt, sand, blood, wounds, bruises, smeared makeup, and glitter. Doing things that don’t need to be pixel-perfect, where I can just go wild and have fun. I also enjoy doing cute things, like my heart-themed items (face hearts, heart moles), fawn makeup, bizzie bee make-up, and the cute items I made for kid avatars. I always had a blast making silly, goofy things like my Googly Eyes, Snow Willy gachas…actually, a lot of my old gacha sets, like the Sticky Notes and Trophy Gacha sets.
My current favorites are my Face Warts (with little mole hairs poking out), Powdered Sugar Mouth, and Arm and Leg Hair.
What tools or techniques do you use when creating your products?
Photoshop (for painting on the UV) and Mudbox (for painting on the model). Most items I draw on the UV map, but I also sometimes use Mudbox as help, especially for things that go over the seams. I want to start learning Substance Painter, though, since that seems to be what most creators use, and dev kits support.
Tell us about some of the other Residents in SL who inspire you and whose work you admire.
There are so many residents who inspire me for various reasons, I could fill pages naming them all. The first three who come to mind are Whiskey Monday, Gorgeous Aurelia, and Gross Rizzo, as I recently created items with their personal taste in mind. Each of them has a distinctive style, and I often find inspiration in their looks to create something I think they and others would appreciate. There are so many others, especially some of my loyal customers and also friends from the Plurk community, who regularly inspire or suggest ideas for new releases. I’m so thankful for their support.
When it comes to creators I admire, the first who come to mind are Anya Ohmai, Truth Hawks, Masa Plympton, and Alaska Metropolitan. Creators who are no longer active in SL, but I’d also like to mention: Mochi Milena and Siddean Munro. I’ve had the pleasure of following their careers and watching their growth over the years. They’ve all inspired me in different ways.

YouTube Embeds in Second Life: What Happened and How to Keep Your Media Working
https://community.secondlife.com/news/featured-news/youtube-embeds-in-second-life-what-happened-and-how-to-keep-your-media-working-r11233/
Many of you have recently noticed that YouTube videos embedded directly in Second Life no longer play. Here’s what’s going on, why it’s happening, and how you can keep sharing video experiences in-world.
First, let’s clear the air: this change is not caused by Second Life.
YouTube has begun more strictly enforcing the policy around video playback inside embedded browsers. These policy and technical restrictions affect any platform trying to use embeds stripped from the iframe, not just Second Life. As a result, YouTube.com embeds often refuse to load or play inside parcel media and shared media surfaces.
Our underlying media system has not changed. What has changed is how YouTube allows its content to be displayed.
Why YouTube Embeds Are Breaking
YouTube has tightened enforcement around:
Playback restrictions for non-standard playback methods
Required authentication pathways
Handling of cookies and consent flows
Iframe and domain security policies
Second Life’s in-world media panels use an embedded browser that cannot fully satisfy these newer requirements. When YouTube blocks playback, the viewer cannot override those restrictions.
What You Can Do Instead
While YouTube embeds may no longer function reliably in-world, several alternatives continue to work well:
1. Vimeo
Vimeo is currently the most seamless drop-in replacement for in-world video playback.
It supports:
Standard iframe embeds
Non-restrictive playback policies
Reliable behavior inside Second Life’s embedded media engine
If you want the simplest path forward, this is the one. Here’s a step-by-step guide: https://vimeo.com/blog/post/how-to-embed-videos
2. Self-Hosted Webpages with an iFrame
If you prefer to keep using YouTube, you still can, just not by directly embedding the YouTube link into Second Life’s media settings.
Instead:
Create a small webpage that contains an iframe around the YouTube embed link.
Host it on your own server, web hosting provider, or platform that allows HTML files.
Use that webpage URL as your parcel’s media link.
Many residents already use this approach for theaters, classrooms, and event venues. Since your webpage handles the browser logic YouTube expects, playback typically works even when direct embeds do not.
3. Other Video Platforms
Several other hosting services provide more flexible embed options and may work depending on your needs, including:
Dailymotion
PeerTube instances (self-hosted or community-run)
Streaming dashboards you host yourself
Each service has different rules, so results may vary.
We’ll Keep You Updated
We know how important media is to events, education spaces, live performances, and community hangouts across Second Life. Since YouTube’s restrictions have caused some frustration, we are exploring ways to improve overall media playback resiliency in the future.
In the meantime, we recommend transitioning to Vimeo or a self-hosted iframe page for the most reliable experience.
