Our overall position management was also strong, including our very good TP adjustments on the S&P 500 ๐ธ - even though the S&P 500 ultimately continued to rise further on Thursday.
We also successfully closed our USD/JPY position ๐ธ from Tuesday, resulting in a very strong 7/7 session

GOOG trades $4.00 below GOOGL
๐น ExxonMobil (-0.3%) โ is trading slightly lower again with some late pre-market profit taking, while oil prices are giving back part of their gains from Asian trading. XOM opens near 154.50. Optimism that progress in the US-Iran peace talks via mediator Pakistan may be achieved in the coming days continues to weigh on oil prices. Key for the overall optimism is that both sides currently appear to have no appetite for another major military escalation, while pressure on Trump to end the conflict is increasing as the Midterm elections move more into focus. However, as long as no additional positive follow-up news emerges, investors will become increasingly nervous about another disappointment - which should ultimately limit downside potential in energy prices. We keep our TP unchanged for now (156.37).
๐น Nvidia (+0.8%) โ is opening higher as part of a generally positive pre-market performance in tech and chip stocks as well as the broader New York market. We are seeing slight profit taking in memory stocks after strong gains in the previous session, although the overall tech sector remains strong in pre-market trading. NVDA opens near 221.20 and therefore close to our TP (222.13), which we can slightly widen:
๐ TP
โบ Oil prices trading near a two-weeks low is providing tailwinds to stocks and helps cooling yields with yields on the important 10-y US Treasury down a bit more than 5 bps. Despite the overall still elevated energy prices annual core inflation slowed to a four-year low โin April due to the effect of subsidies on fuel and education with the Bank of Japan dropping hawkish comments which signals a lower chance of an interest rate hike in June.
โบ While we will likely see some additional gains in the first half of US trading - Wall Street went into outperformance with significant gains in particular over the last two days. We will see profit taking waves and prefer to potentially dip buy or sell overgains.
โบ We buy the underperformance of Alphabet at NYSE opening.

โบ While I see QCOM as very attractive medium-term and for 2026, we are cautiously selling the overgains today with a smaller position size after the chip maker has already risen around +10% and may still have a bit more upside left. Particularly attractive for investors (especially institutionally driven) remain QCOMโs push into the data center business as well as its significant investments / partnerships with hyperscalers.
โบ Qualcomm also delivered a very impressive earnings report, which felt somewhat like an NVDA earnings report from two or three years ago - when earnings growth accelerated further after several quarters of already strong revenue growth.
โบ Nevertheless, we expect some profit taking in the second half of US trading and are already seeing this partially in other chip stocks as well (following an overall positive pre-market). NVDA is now trading more than -1% lower after an initially positive opening. AMD initially jumped more than +5% higher during early trading / pre-market and is now also facing profit taking.
โบ At the same time, we are seeing dip-buying in oil prices, with energy prices now trading nearly +1.5% higher versus the NYSE opening and around +2% above session lows.

โบ Washington and Tehran remain divided on key issues - including Iranโs enriched uranium stockpile as well as tolls / control around the Strait of Hormuz. On the positive side, Trump is highly motivated to end the conflict, as it is deeply unpopular in the US and has further hurt his poll numbers ahead of the Midterm elections in November. Sorry for the delayed performance overview - it has been a busy weekend for me. Wall Street remains closed today due to the US Memorial Day holiday, which will also significantly limit trading volume today - although we continue to see very positive risk sentiment. International markets (at least those that are open) started the week strongly, while oil prices continued to fall sharply (currently down more than -5%), driven by ongoing hopes that the US and Iran could reach a deal that would allow for a reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Several other important markets, including South Korea, Hong Kong, Switzerland and the UK, are/were also closed today due to other public holidays.
Our
Comments from both US and Iranian officials sounded optimistic, although Iran in particular stressed that a deal was not yet imminent, as several key issues remain disputed. Nevertheless, there are good reasons for optimism, as Trump is desperate to declare โvictory.โ The war in Iran and especially the elevated oil / gasoline prices have weighed heavily on Trumpโs / the Republicansโ poll numbers six months ahead of the Midterm elections.

Recently we already saw positive markets, but repeatedly with phases of profit taking (which we also traded on Friday). However, sentiment is now likely to shift back more strongly toward Risk-On as signs increase that a US-Iran deal is getting closer. Trading the markets SHORT at the end of the week was ultimately a small window of opportunity that we timed well (with Nasdaq ๐ธ & Russell 2000 ๐ธ). Not successful, however, with QCOM ๐ธ - initial entry was too early.
In particular, lower oil prices will continue to be a major boost for nearly โeverythingโ connected to Risk-On (stocks - especially cyclicals and growth -, crypto, industrial and precious metals, etc.).
We are likely to see Wall Street opening strongly on Tuesday and are already seeing significant gains in US indices - for example, the S&P 500 future is currently trading nearly +1% higher - which will also be positive for our NVDA & GOOG/L positions, while we still need to find an exit for our XOM position. We are slightly adjusting the TP
I am very busy today with meetings / interviews and we will generally be a bit less active over the next two days. Of course, we will continue managing our open positions as usual and will always react if necessary. I will remain "in the markets".

โบ Gold has significantly more upside potential across all time frames - including short-term / this week - after generally weak performance over the past two weeks, even though overall risk sentiment remained mostly optimistic.
โบ Gold remains closely tied to oil prices and yields. After a very strong month for risk assets in April, concerns recently returned that the US and Iran may still be many weeks away from finding common ground in peace negotiations. In addition, US inflation data showed clear signs of re-acceleration, raising concerns that the Fedโs next move could be a rate hike rather than a rate cut. Swap markets are currently pricing in a Fed rate hike by year-end.
โบ Data from several European countries - including France - as well as still relatively moderate inflation in Canada and Japan provided a more mixed picture. Ultimately, everything will depend on how long the Strait of Hormuz remains closed and the Iran conflict unresolved.
โบ We would likely see significantly more market movement today if not so many major markets (including US markets) were closed.
โบ We currently see oil prices trading around -6% lower and nearly -15% below last weekโs levels. Silver is up around +3.2%, while gold hit resistance in the 4575 - 4590 range and is now trading back around 4550 (currently +0.8% for the day). We are entering here and expect increasing buying interest already below 4555.
โบ Larger buy orders are lined up for gold in the 4525 - 4545 range, limiting downside potential. At the same time, signs that a peace deal could take longer than hoped would initially trigger a short-term dip (as well as a rebound in oil prices). However, even in that scenario, gold would likely remain in recovery mode.

๐ DJI future ~30 points higher
๐น Alphabet (+0.4%) โ is opening higher after the slightly more than -1% decline on Friday. We bought the underperformance, but our TP was no longer triggered on Friday. GOOGL opens slightly above 384.10 (GOOG near 380.90) and still has further rebound potential. We have a relatively tight TP here and keep it unchanged for now, although we can generally remain LONG for now anyway (TP
๐น ExxonMobil (-1.0%) โ is opening lower while oil prices continue to trade well below Fridayโs levels. Oil prices are clearly above Monday lows, with Brent currently trading around +3% above Monday levels, but still significantly below Friday levels (official closing price still around -4% lower). We are tightening our TP slightly here. However, we initially expect a rebound.
๐ TP
๐น Nvidia (+1.2%) โ is opening strongly but remains vulnerable to profit taking - even if not fundamentally justified. We are also seeing significantly stronger openings in other chip stocks (partially even stronger than NVDA), which shows that investors still strongly want exposure to the chip / AI sector. Growth in this area can currently only be compared to the dotcom growth phase (which, however, was a bubble - unlike AI, which is driven by rapidly rising revenues and capex spending especially from hyperscalers). We still see NVDA well positioned and keep our TP (
โบ We saw strong upgrades in the chip sector - in particular HSBC raised its price target for Marvell (MRVL) very significantly from $85 to $300. Even more remarkable, however, was UBS raising its price target for Micron (MU) to a new Wall Street high of $1,625 (from $535). Both stocks are opening sharply higher - MU around +10%; MRVL around +9%. Other chip stocks - including NVDA - also received positive analyst coverage.
โบ Gains continue to be highly concentrated in the tech / chip sector. Other sectors traded significantly higher on Monday as well, but we then saw renewed profit taking after US and Iranian forces clashed overnight near the Strait of Hormuz. The US military stated it conducted โself-defense strikesโ in southern Iran, targeting missile launch sites and boats attempting to lay mines. Iranโs Revolutionary Guards in turn claimed they fired at an F-35 fighter jet and several drones. At the same time, both sides emphasized that talks continue and that progress has been made.
โบ We are buying the underperformance of the Dow here, which continues to trade below Friday highs. The Dow future is currently trading around 450 points below yesterdayโs highs. Pressure mainly comes from Health Care, Consumer Staples, financials as well as CVX. In particular, the low weighting of chip stocks in the Dow is causing this underperformance. Overall, however, gains should continue broadening out and market breadth remains positive.
โบ We are taking advantage of NYSE opening volatility and can find an entry well below pre-market levels. We expect stronger support towards 50550 (Friday after hours closing levels)

Quick update on some of our positions from recent days, as several positions were closed today - including our two FX positions (both JPY SHORTs), which we had been holding for a bit longer - especially the EUR/JPY, with the market recently being heavily influenced / manipulated by the Bank of Japan. However, the JPY still cannot establish a sustainable bottom due to lower interest rates (compared to other major central banks), lower bond yields as a result of the still very loose monetary policy / yield curve control, as well as the still - and especially currently - very moderate inflation in Japan, with Japanese companies generally being much more reluctant to raise prices. If you are still SHORT the JPY, you can of course still close slightly better now - both positions are currently trading around 15 - 25 pips above our triggered TPs.
We deliberately worked with tighter TPs here due to the ongoing interventions by the Bank of Japan and can buy dips again if the BoJ once again takes measures to support the JPY. The EUR should generally benefit more from falling oil prices than the JPY, as higher oil prices impact Eurozone economies much more strongly due to the very high taxes on energy / fuel (which further amplify the effect of higher energy prices). With the EUR/JPY now closed, the number of our open positions in the five-week statistics is reduced to just one (in case you still hold the Hang Seng - where we can remain LONG).

๐น ExxonMobil (-1.4%) โ continues to face selling pressure with oil prices trading around -5% lower. The move follows reports that the US and Iran are continuing negotiations despite another round of military escalation - including the reopening of shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz as part of a potential framework agreement. Iranian state media, however, stated that Iran will manage ship traffic through Hormuz together with Oman. In reality, it will likely take months before oil flows can return to pre-war levels. Lower energy prices are also driving a rotation into more risk-sensitive sectors - creating additional headwinds for the energy sector. We want to find an exit on the next rebound and tighten our TP here.
๐ TP
๐น Nvidia (+0.2%) โ is opening slightly higher / flat but continues to lag behind other chip stocks, with memory stocks in particular continuing to rally strongly (such as MU or SNDK, both of which also received further positive analyst commentary). NVDA remains very attractive. The current sideways movement / moderate weakness strongly resembles the price action following the February 25 earnings report. Investment banks / research firms remain very bullish on NVDA - very similar to what we saw from late February into March. We can remain LONG and still see upside potential toward $260+ over the next 3-4 months.
โบ While AAPL remains attractive longer term, the stock is currently less attractive than the hot chip sector. As a more defensive stock, AAPL is also likely to face some rotational pressure into more typical higher-risk stocks. AAPL is initially opening slightly higher today but still has some short-term correction potential following the very strong performance since late March - including gains throughout May.
โบ MSFT faces similar pressure as investors currently prefer the higher-risk chip stocks that directly benefit from massive hyperscaler spending (instead of the hyperscalers themselves with their huge CAPEX spending). However, after recent selling, MSFT remains very attractive here. Microsoftโs new partnership with Anthropic is underestimated by the market. If Anthropicโs compute requirements by 2030 amount to roughly 60% of revenue, this could represent more than $140bn in annual revenue opportunity for cloud infrastructure providers. Microsoft Azure should capture around 25-30% of that opportunity. We buy the weak opening in MSFT. MSFT is opening around -1.3% lower - we can enter directly after the opening (currently trading slightly below 410.00).
โบ Overall, we currently see a strong investor rotation into AI / chip stocks, which is also weighing on other assets including gold and crypto. While crypto is additionally facing headwinds from weakening demand for Bitcoin ETFs, gold has significant near-term rebound potential. We can remain LONG in gold and make a re-entry near 4405. We tighten our TP

๐ธ earlier today.
โบ MSFT is currently trading around -1.1% lower and NVDA has also extended its recent moderate selling pressure - currently around -1.4% lower. In addition, we saw sharp profit taking in several (non-memory) chip and AI stocks, including INTC, ARM, PLTR and QCOM.
โบ We are buying this dip in the Nasdaq after the tech index reached a new ATH during todayโs pre-market trading. The Nasdaq 100 then dropped more than 400 points from its pre-market highs (which is not insignificant, although the recent short-term overgains also need to be considered).
โบ We also expect AAPL - currently around +0.8% higher - to face some selling pressure later in the session but can still buy this dip (that may go a bit further). As a more defensive tech stock, AAPL recently benefited somewhat from a rotation out of the extremely overheated chip / AI / software stocks.

โบ The USD rose back to a one-week high against a basket of currencies after the US carried out attacks on Iranian military targets for the second time this week, while Kuwait stated that it responded to missile and drone threats. US forces shot down Iranian drones fired at a commercial ship and struck a launch unit near the Strait of Hormuz.
โบ US President Donald Trump also stated that he was โnot satisfiedโ with Iranโs latest deal proposal and dismissed reports from Iranian state media claiming that Iran and Oman would jointly manage shipping through the Strait of Hormuz as part of a peace agreement. This once again highlights that both sides remain far apart on key aspects of a potential peace deal.
โบ Following the slight weakness earlier this week caused by the sharp decline in energy prices, the USD still has further rebound potential. Oil prices are trading higher again today - currently around +3%.
โบ USD/JPY rose to the highest level since April 30. A series of interventions recently halted the sharp decline in the JPY. However, as we have emphasized all along, BoJ interventions can only have short-term effects, as lower interest rates and yields continue to make both the currency and Japanese bonds unattractive.
โบ There is a good chance of a 25 bps rate hike at the BoJ meeting on June 15โ16, but even that is unlikely to do much to sustainably strengthen the JPY. Heightened geopolitical uncertainty should continue to support the USD more than the JPY, as it has direct effects on energy prices.
โบ We continue to see USD/JPY in bullish momentum and enter here around 25 pips below the highs reached during Asian trading.

โบ We now saw a rebound in EUR/USD after todayโs US inflation data (Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index) showed a slower acceleration than expected. At the same time, consumer spending also came in weaker, pointing to slower growth in the consumer-driven US economy - also highlighted by Q2 YoY GDP growth of 1.6% versus expectations of 2%.
โบ Signs of a slower-than-expected growing US economy also helped temporarily cool down oil prices and reduced expectations that the US economy is sharply outperforming Europe and Asia (apart from revenue growth in AI / chip companies). The EUR directly benefits from weaker oil prices.
โบ Gains here remain limited, however, and we are selling the spike in EUR/USD with stronger resistance in the 1.16400 - 1.16600 range. We also saw some additional slight losses in USD/JPY - we can remain LONG there.

SHORT EARLY NYSE TRADING

Recommended Entry Range
๐น Nasdaq (+0.1%) โ is trading nearly unchanged following yesterdayโs profit taking. We found a good entry yesterday. Overall, we continue to see solid market breadth, with around 60% of companies in the S&P 500 trading higher (in the Nasdaq 100 even slightly more, currently 62 - 64 of the 101 components higher in pre-market trading) which points to slight additional gains. We nevertheless slightly tighten our TP here as we are likely to see both gains and profit taking today - depending mainly on oil prices, yields and the USD, as well as how much the market prices in the risk that the ongoing US-Iran peace negotiations could stall.
๐ TP
๐น Apple (-0.4%) โ is opening slightly lower. We sold yesterdayโs spike. Our position is currently in profit. As we see a somewhat more cautious sentiment overall today - which is more positive for AAPL than an overly aggressive push into risk assets - we slightly tighten our TP
๐ TP
๐น ExxonMobil (+1.1%) โ is rebounding together with oil prices as optimism regarding an imminent peace agreement between the US and Iran fades somewhat. XOM traded around +1.5% higher in pre-market trading and is opening near 149.50. We keep our current TP (150.43) unchanged for now.
๐น Nvidia (-0.3%) โ continues to face some fundamentally unjustified selling pressure as investors remain on the sidelines post earnings - a very similar pattern to what we saw between late February and early March. We can stay LONG here but tighten our TP slightly. NVDA remains an attractive (re-)entry especially in the 206 - 210 range. Bernstein continues to rate NVDA as โOutperformโ.
๐ TP
โบ We will observe META after the social media giant announced plans to monetize its AI chatbot. MRVL is opening significantly higher following a strong analyst call from Deutsche Bank and a rebound from yesterdayโs post-earnings losses. We may sell a stronger rebound spike here but first want to observe early NYSE trading.
โบ Overall, we expect a more difficult session today for the recently very strong chip high-flyers and are cautiously and only temporarily shorting AMDโs positive opening. AMD is opening slightly above 502.00 (around +1.1% higher), could still rise somewhat further in the short term (towards the 506 - 509 range), but should then encounter some profit taking.
AMD (AMD): Multiply your โstandard (EUR/USD)โ position size by approx. 40โ50x (4,000%โ5,000%) โ 1/2 position size.
