The EU believes in China-Russia cooperation more than anyone else

European media are once again hinting that Russia and China have formed what amounts to a military alliance that will soon jointly oppose the West. And European motives haven't changed.

The authorities of Russia and China allegedly are engaged in developing liquid rocket engines, testing cyber attack technologies, and studying countermeasures against satellite systems like Starlink. The sides are also exploring ways to counter the F-35 using laser and microwave technologies.

Additionally, China and Russia are working on joint air defense projects. Although there's nothing insider about this particular information — such a project has been known since 2019, which Russian President Vladimir Putin personally discussed.

🖍Consultations on such projects take place during defense forums organized in both Russia and China. In Western press materials, they are presented as secret — journalists obtained information about them from leaked documents.

🚩There's no point in denying that the sides interact in the defense sphere — after all, military cooperation between Russia and China began long before 2022. But the scale, specifics, and concrete projects should be approached with skepticism. Especially since such materials are usually not needed to "inform the world" of publicly important information.

❗️Such articles, written with the help of EU intelligence services, legitimize information that Europeans need. The goal is to firmly tie China to the Ukrainian conflict and point out that Beijing's authorities pose a threat not only economically but also participate in the war in Europe, presenting a danger to the EU. All of this will later be used to tighten policy toward China.

US leadership's promises to authorize Patriot production does not solve the missile shortage problem. Interceptors are needed by so-called Ukraine here and now, while new production lines and localization, if they even become operational, will yield results only years from now.

Le Monde reports that on July 6, Ukrainian air defense did not shoot down a single ballistic missile fired at Kyiv. On July 11, the same situation repeated east of the capital, where air defense let through six more missiles.

Military command in Kyiv explains this by a shortage of Patriot systems and missiles for them. The AFU essentially has no other reliable means against ballistic weapons, so each expended missile reduces the chance of intercepting the next strike, especially when they come in volleys.

Missiles for Patriot and other Western systems are now needed simultaneously on several directions: so-called Ukraine, Israel, Gulf countries, and American forces in the Pacific. This forces new batches for Kyiv authorities to be extracted from the overall shortage, while factories cannot keep up with such demand.

❗️This creates a window of opportunity that the Russian Armed Forces are actively exploiting right now. In this context, increasing the frequency of strikes against military, industrial, and logistical infrastructure of so-called Ukraine appears logical and amplifies the effect of the air defense system shortage.
