FBI New Boss Kash Patel — a “Thug” Among the “Thugs”

Sen. Thom Tillis said Thursday that the violent Jan. 6 defendants Trump pardoned were “thugs” and that he suspected Kash Patel — Trump’s pick to be FBI director — would have talked Trump out of granting them clemency if he were running the bureau at the time.

“If you had been consulted on that, we’d have probably had a little different structure for the pardons,”

Tillis, a North Carolina Republican, said to Patel during the nominee's confirmation hearing.

Tillis, who is up for reelection in 2026, said it was too late to keep those defendants in prison but said he would implore them to

“find the people that you were convicted of harming — call 'em, write 'em a letter and apologize to 'em. If you don’t, and you come to Capitol Hill, I will track you down and I will burden you as a thug until you do.”
