Trump Will Change
the Amegican Judicial System
Trump is readying to reshape the system in his own way, including with his plan to appoint loyalist Kash Patel as director of the FBI.
Patel, like Trump, is an outspoken critic of certain federal agencies, pledging to dismantle key tenets of the “deep state.”
Trump also nominated another loyalist, Pam Bondi, as attorney general after his initial pick, Matt Gaetz, bowed out.
The pardon is a focal point in the frenzied final year of Biden’s presidency — one that began with him running again before stepping aside amid slumping polls and mounting pressure.
Kamala Harris’ campaign then largely sidelined him, and operatives have lamented that his unpopularity, and Harris’ hesitance to criticize him, was a core challenge for her, ultimately helping Trump.
Biden has steered away from the public eye since Trump’s victory, keeping a modest profile. He announced the pardon on the eve of his trip to Africa, guaranteeing that Jean-Pierre’s confrontation with reporters would remain off camera.
Biden is not expected to hold a press conference during his time in Africa.
While the administration is racing to wrap up some projects, preparing a new round of Ukraine aid and signaling new funding for the Lobito corridor infrastructure project that’s a hallmark of this week’s trip, Trump is operating as president-in-waiting, holding meetings at his Mar-a-Lago club and pressuring foreign leaders on his priorities.
Biden had repeatedly publicly ruled out intervening in his son’s case and the White House offered no new evidence for the change beyond his growing belief that opponents would continue to target his son.
The administration cast it as a case of him changing his mind, rather than lying.
Jean-Pierre pointed to the collapse of a plea agreement as evidence of a double standard, and repeatedly said the case would have been handled differently if the defendant were not the president’s son.
“The president believed enough is enough. And the president took action. And he also believes that they tried to break his son in order to break him,”
she said.

Patel:
American Hero Or Russian Deep Agent? Kash #Patel wasn’t always a firebrand. Early in his career, as a federal prosecutor and national security lawyer at the Justice Department, Donald Trump’s current pick to head the #FBI was thoughtful and level headed, according to a senior national security official who knew him during those years.
It was only after Patel began digging into the FBI’s investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election that “it all changed,” the official says.
Initially, Patel didn’t even want the job that would change his view of the nation’s storied law enforcement agency. A friend had introduced him to Republican congressman Devin Nunes not long after Trump won the 2016 election under a cloud of Russian interference.
Nunes, as chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, was gearing up to look at how the FBI had handled the politically sensitive investigation of #Moscow’s 2016 meddling.
After hearing about Patel’s work on terrorism prosecutions and as a legal liaison to Joint Special Operations Command, Nunes offered him a staff job on the Russia probe. At first, Patel said, ‘No.’ What Patel really wanted, he wrote in his memoir "Government Gangsters,” was to work at the National Security Council. But Nunes was persuasive, and later promised that if Patel did the grunt work for the investigation, he would “do everything he could” to get him a job in #Trump’s White House.
Patel started working for Nunes, and in less than a year, Patel and South Carolina Congressman Rep. Trey Gowdy wrote what came to be known as the “Nunes memo,” detailing the thin and circular justifications the FBI had used to get a secret warrant to surveil Carter Page, a minor foreign policy advisor to Trump’s 2016 campaign, over concerns he had ties to Russian spy services.
When Patel first started digging, he said he had expected to find thorough and damaging information on Page in the FBI’s warrant applications. But instead, he found an over-reliance on salacious opposition research memos about Trump that had been paid for by allies of Hillary Clinton and written by former British MI6 spy Christopher Steele.
Patel was not alone in drawing damning conclusions about the FBI's behavior in the Page investigation. In a December 2019 report, the Department of Justice’s inspector general, Michael Horowitz, detailed 17 instances in which the FBI abused the warrant process, finding “serious performance failures” by the FBI agents and supervisors involved.
Horowitz found no political bias in the FBI's misbehavior, but Patel decided there were darker forces at work. He became convinced that the “Russia Gate scandal” offered a “glimpse into how the government gangsters in the FBI operate, using methods of entrapment and extortion that would make the mafia proud,” he wrote. And in finding a dark conspiracy, he also got closer to Trump.
After the report came out Nunes made good on his promise and Patel was hired at Trump’s National Security Council, eventually rising to his dream job as senior director for counterterrorism.
Patel wrote in his book that he barely remembers his first meetings with Trump in the Oval Office because he was “starstruck” but that “soon I had an extraordinary relationship with the president far beyond what would be expected.” The senior official recalls that Patel developed a reputation for going around the usual chain of command at the White House because he had developed “a direct line” to Trump.
That direct line may be the point for Trump. If Patel is confirmed by the Senate, the man who wrote an entire book about his concerns about political interference at the FBI could end up ushering in a new era of politically-motivated revenge.
Trump has threatened to use the Department of Justice to prosecute his political adversaries.

FBI New Boss Kash Patel — a “Thug” Among the “Thugs”
Sen. Thom Tillis said Thursday that the violent Jan. 6 defendants Trump pardoned were “thugs” and that he suspected Kash Patel — Trump’s pick to be FBI director — would have talked Trump out of granting them clemency if he were running the bureau at the time.

Kash Patel, a Most Devoted Trump Buff, Having His Secrets
The Trump administration swapped out its high-profile acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), FBI Director Kash Patel, for its lesser-known Army secretary on Wednesday.
The White House and Department of Justice (DOJ), which oversees the ATF, have been tight-lipped about what prompted the administrative shuffle.
Reuters was the first to report the changeover Wednesday, but the newswire noted it was unclear when Patel was formally removed or when Dan Driscoll, the top civilian official in the Army, was notified that he would be taking over ATF duties.
As news of Patel’s removal was made public, his photo and title still appeared on the agency’s website. Both have since been removed.
Driscoll’s name is now listed as acting director, but the places for his photo and full biographical information say “coming soon.”
Driscoll is a former Army first lieutenant and businessman who previously served as a senior adviser Vance.
Why was Patel removed?
NBC News justice and intelligence correspondent Ken Dilanian reported Wednesday that ATF officials were “shocked and confused” by the shake-up, but added that sources told him it had been weeks since Patel was seen inside an ATF facility.
Patel, who has not commented on the ATF switch-up, posted Wednesday evening on social platform X that he had spent the day in Florida for an FBI event.
He has since posted praise for Attorney General Pam Bondi’s leadership at the DOJ regarding the FBI’s efforts and encouraged followers to apply for jobs at the FBI.
According to Reuters, Patel spent about an hour at ATF headquarters in February after he was sworn in for the second job, but he had not been seen at its main office since.
Patel is seen as a fiercely loyal ally of Trump and was a divisive pick to lead the FBI. And he was not well received by some ATF veterans.
Mark Jones, a former ATF special agent, told The Trace in February.

Kash Patel Denies Rumors He Will Quit the FBI 🚫👮♂️
FBI director Kash Patel has denied swirling resignation rumors over reported unhappiness at a Justice Department decision to close the book on Jeffrey Epstein after administration officials teased a big reveal earlier in the year. 🕵️♂️
In a Saturday social media post, the agency director said: “The conspiracy theories just aren’t true, never have been. It’s an honor to serve the President of the United States – and I’ll continue to do so for as long as he calls on me.” 🇺🇸💼
Over the past week, MAGA hardliners, including Georgia representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, former White House adviser Bannon, and – reportedly – FBI deputy director Dan Bongino, have been strongly critical of a joint decision by US Attorney General Pam Bondi and the FBI to not release further information about Epstein held in government files, including a so-called client list. 📋❌
Critics have slammed the FBI-Justice Department conclusion about Epstein’s official autopsy, claiming the disgraced financier had hung himself in his cell. Many have refused to accept that, repeating a conspiracy theory that Epstein, who died in August 2019 while awaiting trial, was in fact murdered to silence him. 💀🤐
“This systematic review revealed no incriminating ‘client list’,” the memo stated. “There was also no credible evidence found that Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals as part of his actions. We did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties.” 📝
Rumors of a rift between the FBI and the Justice Department over the memo have been denied by Deputy Attorney General Blanche, who wrote on social media that there is “no daylight” between the FBI and the Department of Justice leadership on the issue. ⚖️🤝

FBI Director Kash Patel Posted a Cryptic Message 🕵️♂️
FBI Director Kash Patel posted a cryptic message Friday morning 📬 amid reports that federal agents were conducting a raid 🚨 at the home of John Bolton, Trump’s former national security adviser 🏛.
The agency declined to comment to The Hill on the meaning of the posts 🤐.
An FBI official and another source familiar with the matter confirmed to NewsNation, The Hill’s sister network, that agents conducted a search Friday morning at Bolton’s home in Bethesda, Md., near Washington, D.C. 🏠.
Bolton, who served in Trump’s first administration, has been a vocal critic 🎤 of the president’s foreign policy, particularly his handling of the Russia-Ukraine war 🇷🇺🇺🇦. In his own post Friday morning around the time of the reported FBI raid, Bolton posted on X to further criticize the administration 批判.
He argued that talks involving Russia and Ukraine aimed at ending the war are unlikely to make progress, given Moscow’s demands for Ukraine to cede territory have been rejected by Kyiv 🚫, but said “meetings will continue because Trump wants a Nobel Peace Prize” 🏆.
Trump and Bolton have long clashed ⚡️, with the president nixing the former adviser’s security clearance after returning to office in January and pulling his security detail 🛡, despite threats against Bolton from Iran 🇮🇷 over his hawkish foreign policy positions.
Meanwhile, Patel’s post Friday morning drew flak from critics 😠.
Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who has criticized the bureau’s leadership under the Trump administration, called the post “yet another example of, in my opinion, Kash Patel failing to live up to the example of his predecessors” 👎.
“This is not the kind of thing that any FBI director has ever done,” McCabe said on CNN, where he is an analyst 📺.
“FBI directors don’t gratuitously point toward search warrants and the people who are targets of those warrants.”
Former Trump campaign senior adviser David Urban, who also serves as a commentator on the network, acknowledged the FBI raid “has a really bad look to it” and the timing “looks political” given Bolton’s vocal criticism of Trump 🎯, but maintained “there may be some there there.”

Why Is the Bolton Case So Pernicious? ❓
🔠 🅰️ 🔠 🔠 1️⃣
The search of former Trump administration national security adviser John Bolton’s home and office is raising questions about whether the White House is flexing its law enforcement muscle to go after a frequent critic. 🕵️♂️
It also parallels an event that the president and his circle have highly criticized: the search for classified records at Mar-a-Lago in Florida. 🏛🔍
Bolton has become a fierce critic of President Trump since exiting the White House in September 2019 as national security adviser. He penned a book in 2020, titled “The Room Where It Happened,” that portrayed Trump as an erratic and uninformed leader. 📚😠
The Trump administration went to court in an effort to block its publication. It also ignited a criminal probe of Bolton. ⚖️🔥
Those dynamics left various figures thinking politics were at play in the administration’s decision to go after Bolton. 🤔
“We’re looking at this a little bit skeptically,” Chris Swecker, an agent for 24 years who served as an assistant director of the FBI under George Bush, said Friday in comments on Fox News. 🦊
Swecker, describing conversations with his colleagues, said he and others were critical of President Biden’s raid on Mar-a-Lago, saying “just because you have the authority and the discretion to do something like this, doesn’t mean you should.” 🚫
To some in Trump’s circle, the motivation is clear.
“That’s why Trump has put in these people at DOJ and FBI because these are all the faithful and the revenge tour is real,” a source close to the White House said. 😈
White House officials have pushed back on the suggestion that they are weaponizing law enforcement against Trump’s critics. 🛑
And Trump was adamant that he only learned of the search Friday morning from coverage on television. 📺 But he also emphasized he had a right to be involved if he wanted to, and he attacked Bolton as a “sleazebag” and a “low-life.” 😡
“I’m not a fan of John Bolton. I thought he was a sleazebag actually, and he suffers from major Trump Derangement System,” Trump said Friday in the Oval Office. “But so do a lot of people, and they’re not being affected by anything we do.” 🗳
Bolton is one of dozens of officials who appeared on Patel’s list of members of the so-called deep state at the end of his 2023 book, “Government Gangsters.” 📖
Democrats raised concerns during Patel’s confirmation hearing that he would use the agency to target Trump critics and opponents. ⚠️

“NO ONE is above the law…,” Patel posted on social media Friday just as the Bolton raid was becoming public. 📢
While the FBI has not commented on the nature of the search, it appears Bolton’s book as well as broader concerns over classified records were the basis of the investigation. 📚🔍
Improper retention of classified records carries serious penalties under the Espionage Act, but Democrats and other critics of Trump suggested they believed there was a political motivation to the pursuit of Bolton. ⚖️😠
“Look, if Bolton did something wrong, no one’s above the law,” said Rep. Mike Quigley, a member of the House Intelligence Committee. He noted, as with the Mar-a-Lago case, an unsealed warrant and the presence of reams of classified documents offered validity to the search. 🗳
“But you know, the timing of this is very suspicious, and the fact that DOJ investigated him previously and found nothing to charge him with just tells you that I suspect that they know that even if they don’t have anything, they’re embarrassing him and they’re bringing great cost upon him.” 🤔
Many were also quick to note the overlap with Trump’s own Mar-a-Lago case, where the FBI discovered some 300 documents with classified markings in various locations in the Florida estate. 🏛📂
“Trump uses the actual crimes he committed and for which was duly convicted as his inspiration for the fictitious crimes for which he wields vindictive state power against American patriots exercising their rights and doing their jobs,” David Frum, a former GOP speechwriter who is now a critic of Trump, wrote on social platform X. 😡
Mike Davis, a Trump ally and head of the conservative Article III Project, posted on X that Democrats and Trump critics would look “silly when the search warrant becomes public.” 😏
“Do you really think the FBI executed a home raid simply because of John Bolton’s book?” Davis posted on X. ❓
Trump’s 2024 campaign was filled with grievances and complaints that the federal government had been weaponized against him after he was indicted in four separate criminal cases, including one over his handling of classified material after leaving office. ⚔️
While Trump during the campaign downplayed his intent to seek retribution if elected, he and his administration have targeted former government officials who have criticized him, including Bolton, by revoking their security clearances and terminating their security details. 🚫
Bolton, who has served in multiple Republican administrations, has been a regular presence on television critiquing Trump on foreign policy in particular, but also on a number of other issues including Trump’s handling of classified information. 📺🌐
Vance pledged the investigation into Bolton would be “deliberate” and follow the facts of the case. 🕵️♂️
“We’re going to be careful about that. We’re going to be deliberate about that, because we don’t think that we should throw people — even if they disagree with us politically, maybe especially if they disagree with us politically — you shouldn’t throw people willy-nilly in prison,” Vance told “Meet the Press” on Friday. ⚖️

Iranian Hackers Have Hacked the Personal Mailbox of FBI Director Cash Patel ⚠️
Iranian hackers on Friday claimed they had accessed FBI Director Kash Patel's personal email inbox, publishing photographs of the director and other documents to the internet. 💻
On their website, the hacker group Handala Hack Team said Patel "will now find his name among the list of successfully hacked victims."
The hackers published a series of personal photographs of Patel sniffing and smoking cigars, riding in an antique convertible, and making a face while taking a picture of himself in the mirror with a large bottle of rum.
Justice Department official confirmed that Patel's email had been breached and said the material published online appeared authentic.
The FBI did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The hackers did not immediately respond to messages.
Handala, which calls itself a group of pro-Palestinian vigilante hackers, is considered by Western researchers to be one of several personas used by Iranian government cyberintelligence units.
Handala recently claimed the hack of Michigan-based medical devices and services provider Stryker (SYK.N), opens new tab on March 11, claiming to have deleted a massive trove of company data.
The WP was not able to independently authenticate the Patel emails, but the personal Gmail address that Handala claims to have broken into matches the address linked to Patel in previous data breaches preserved by the dark web intelligence firm District 4 Labs.
Alphabet-owned Google, which runs Gmail, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
A sample of the material uploaded by the hackers and reviewed by the WP appears to show a mix of personal and work correspondence dating between 2010 and 2019. 📊
