#ISRO lays foundation stone of its Advanced Radar Research Centre at Chandrapur, Assam 🇮🇳

Under Project NETRA, ISRO is building:

📡An indigenous phased array radar
🎯Able to detect objects as small as 10 cm
🌍With a tracking range of up to 2,000 km
🏗️On 124 acres at the old Chandrapur thermal power plant site
🎓With internships and training for Northeast students

Why does Space Situational Awareness matter?
Earth's orbit is getting crowded with satellites and debris. Even a 10 cm fragment can destroy a satellite. ISRO carried out 19 collision avoidance manoeuvres in 2021, up from just 3 in 2015.

Until now, India has relied on NORAD and other foreign sources for debris data. NETRA will give India its own eyes in the sky to protect its growing fleet of satellites.
A first-of-its-kind ISRO facility for the Northeast.
