Breaking: Jerome Boateng almost certain to stay at Bayern Munich
Media PSG have signed Thilo Kehrer which should mean that their pursuit of Boateng is over. Bayern Munich fans can breath a sigh of relief — it seems as though PSG’s pursuit of Jerome Boateng is coming to an end. According to reports, the Parisians have just completed the signing of Schalke 04 defender Thilo Kehrer for 37m euros, making it unlikely that they will continue their pursuit of the Bayern Munich center back. After rejecting Manchester United, Jerome Boateng may play in Bavarian red for another season. @FCBayern @SPORTBILD #Boateng @s04— Tobias Altschäffl (@altobelli13) August 12, 2018The “Boateng to PSG” saga has raged for pretty much the entire summer thus far, with Bayern making it clear that they will listen to offers that match their valuation. Thomas Tuchel reportedly wanted the world cup winner on his squad for the upcoming campaign, but PSG faced financial hurdles due to UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules. The Bavarians wanted a rumored 60m EUR for the 29 year old, which was steep even for PSG’s standards. Now, with the signing of Kehrer, Tuchel will have his man, just not the man he wanted. It’s unlikely that PSG will ever attempt to meet Bayern’s price for Boateng now that they’ve signed a younger, cheaper substitute. Boateng himself has been sidelined for Bayern’s upcoming DFL Supercup against Frankfurt with a knee injury, but this isn’t thought to have influenced the course of events. Unless some other club jumps into the fray at this eleventh hour, Jerome Boateng is guaranteed to be a Bayern Munich player next season. Read more...
Calf injury set to keep Jerome Boateng out of Germany vs. France
Netherlands v Germany - UEFA Nations League A AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS - OCTOBER 13: Jerome Boateng of Germany reacts during the UEFA Nations League A group one match between Netherlands and Germany at Johan Cruyff Arena on October 13, 2018 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It just goes from bad to worse for Die Mannschaft. As if it couldn’t get any worse for Germany right now, Die Mannschaft will be without Jerome Boateng for their next UEFA Nations League match against France. He’s already left the team’s hotel to return to Munich to receive treatment, and hopefully he’ll be fit on time for Bayern Munich’s league match against VfL Wolfsburg next weekend.BREAKING: A calf injury will rule Jerome #Boateng out of #FRAGER on Tuesday. The defender has left the Germany team hotel. pic.twitter.com/otF7ZrR3bi— DW Sports (@dw_sports) October 14, 2018Per kicker, the center back pulled up with a calf injury during the second half of Germany’s 3-0 loss to the Netherlands and was unable to come off because Joachim Low had already made his three substitutions. The injury came during a sequence when the Netherlands had launched a counter-attack, catching Germany on their heels. When Boateng lunged in an attempt to make a tackle he pulled up rather gingerly before taking a seat on the pitch in what looked to be a considerable amount of discomfort. For Germany’s next match against France, Boateng’s absence means that Low will likely have to start either Niklas Sule or Jonathan Tah alongside Mats Hummels, unless he decides to slightly alter the formation. Unfortunately for Low, Boateng is now the sixth player from the initial 23-man roster that he selected to have withdrawn through injury as Kai Havertz, Marco Reus, Antonio Rudiger, Leon Goretzka, and Kevin Trapp all pulled out of the squad just days before the Netherlands match. With the attacking firepower that France have at their disposal, an altered back line for Low and Germany is plenty of cause for concern with their backs against the wall.Read more...

A destination in the English Premier League seems likely, and <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/epl/teams/newcastle">Newcastle</a> is the favorite. Injury Roundup: Coman and Boateng return to training, news regarding Pavard
Training camp FC Bayern in Portugal Photo by Matthias Balk/picture alliance via Getty ImagesKinglsey Coman and Jerome Boateng have rejoined team training in Portugal, David Alaba trained solo, and Benjamin Pavard is working toward a potential return. In today’s injury roundup, there are a few tidbits of news to be shared. First, Kinglsey Coman appears to have recovered from his muscular problem and participated in the squad’s first team practice in Lisbon in preparation for FC Bayern’s Friday's Champions League match vs Barcelona. After a scary looking non-contact injury in Bayern’s came versus Chelsea, Jerome Boateng was also involved in team training today in Lisbon. Given how serious the injury initially appeared, it is no doubt great news to see that Boateng is back in training with the squad no worse for wear.Kingsley #Coman (hintere Gruppe) und Jerome #Boateng sind beim ersten Mannschaftstraining des #FCBayern in Portugal dabei. pic.twitter.com/GZJjeMIIt3— Manuel Bonke (@mano_bonke) August 10, 2020Furthermore, David Alaba was granted a rest day and trained individually. It is essential for Bayern to ensure he remains healthy and rested for Friday’s clash, when he and Alphonso Davies will have the most difficult job on the pitch: stopping Lionel Messi.Lastly, according to a kicker report, Benjamin Pavard is doing everything in his power to return for the remainder of the Champions League campaign. While he is 100% out of the match against Barcelona on Friday, the anticipation will be for Pavard to resume team training on Saturday, depending on the result. For Bayern to have the best odds of winning the Treble, Pavard needs to return to full fitness at right-back so Kimmich can return to his dominant no. 6 position. All in all, this new bodes well for Bayern in what will arguably be the toughest game of this campaign in any of their competitions.Bayern are doing everything to get Benjamin Pavard back to full fitness after the quarterfinals if they beat Barça. Pavard is determined to be part of the team participating in the #UCL, will fly to Portugal on Thursday and - ideally - start training on Saturday [Kicker]— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) August 10, 2020Read more...
<b>Prelude to disaster? Uli Hoeness says Bayern Munich will NOT sign a fourth winger this window</b>
<a href="https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/NVHVoFFPVf-4NAFU8pZqKpsZNrw=/1x0:2287x1524/1310x873/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/67397979/865660450.jpg.0.jpg">Hamburger SV v FC Bayern Muenchen - Bundesliga</a> Photo by TF-Images/TF-Images via Getty ImagesWinger Thomas Muller is like Thanos, he is inevitable. We really wish he wasn’t, though.Well, this is disappointing. Just a week before the Bundesliga is set to restart, former <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/bundesliga/teams/bayern-munich">Bayern Munich</a> President Uli Hoeness has dashed hopes of a final winger being added to the squad. This means that the Bavarians will go into the new season with just three recognized wingers — Leroy Sane, <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/epl/players/221679/serge-gnabry">Serge Gnabry</a>, and Kingsley Coman — all of whom are known for having injury issues. The former president discussed this topic (and more) on Sport1’s Doppelpass program. Here’s Spox journalist Kerry Hau’s summary of the winger issue, as described by Hoeness:- Der von Flick geforderte vierte Flügel wird wohl nicht kommen, weil a) zu teuer und b) schnell unzufrieden wg. Konkurrenz
- <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Boateng?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Boateng</a> darf entscheiden, ob er bleibt: „Niemand wird ihn rausekeln.”
- <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Mart%C3%ADnez?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Martínez</a> verhandelt mit mehreren Klubs: „Legen ihm keine Steine in den Weg.”— Kerry Hau (@kerry_hau) <a href="https://twitter.com/kerry_hau/status/1305096908663382017?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">September 13, 2020</a>- The fourth winger demanded by Flick will probably not come because a) too expensive and b) will dissatisfied quickly because of competition.- #Boateng may decide whether he stays: “Nobody will stop him.”- #Martínez is negotiating with several clubs: “Won’t put any obstacles in his way.”As you can see, there are plenty of things in the interview to digest, so let’s focus on Bayern’s winger situation for now. After negotiations with <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/serie-a/teams/inter-milan">Inter Milan</a> for the purchase of Ivan Perisic broke down, fans of the club hoped that the bosses would look elsewhere for a new backup. The coming season is set to be the most congested in recent memory, with Bayern having the added burden of the two Supercups and the Club <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/fifa-womens-world-cup">World Cup</a> to contend with, in addition to a truncated schedule due to the pandemic. While the club already has three quality wingers on the roster, all of them are extremely injury prone, and they have no recognized backups. <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/bundesliga/players/110278/thomas-muller">Thomas Muller</a> has traditionally been Bayern’s go-to fourth winger for the better part of a decade now, but everyone knows that <em>der Raumdeuter</em> is wasted out wide. Hansi Flick has also made it clear that he sees Muller as a midfielder and not a winger, and has utilized him as such. Given how important Muller is to Hansi’s system, the coach will probably be loath to change something so drastic in the event of an injury crisis.<a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/mls/players/277474/alphonso-davies">Alphonso Davies</a> might be another candidate for the wide positions, but he’s not quite the same phenomenon on the wings that he is at left back. The Canadian likes to have the whole pitch in front of him so he can run into space, and moving him up the pitch means that Bayern loses his pace as a deterrent to opposition counterattacks. The Bavarians’ current system relies heavily on a Davies-like player at fullback, so even though Flick has Lucas Hernandez and <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/bundesliga/players/187947/david-alaba">David Alaba</a> at his disposal, lots of things would need to…
<b>DFB-Pokal first round preview: Düren vs. Bayern</b>
By rights, the first round of the DFB-Pokal should already be finished. But FC Bayern have been granted a postponement of their first game at their own request and now have to play against 5th tier club 1. FC Düren on Thursday evening.International breaks are usually rather relaxed times for FC Bayern. The majority of the squad is away on international duty and the resulting vacancies are filled in training with youth players. This week has been no exception: Leon Dajaku, Angelo Stiller, Johannes Schenk, Maximilian Zaiser, Josip Stanisic, Alexander Lungwitz, Kilian Senkbeil, Armindo Sieb and Fiete Arp were all called up to join the first team training on Tuesday.Of all the people involved at Bayern, the game on Thursday arguably presents the greatest disruption to the usual process to Hansi Flick. Instead of being able to prepare for the game on Saturday evening in Bielefeld in the usual manner, he has to come up with a starting eleven that gets by without any of the national team players if possible – at least without those who were actually called up for duty.<a href="#will-the-team-select-itself"></a>Will the team select itself? In goal, Alexander Nübel could make his debut. Even though Manuel Neuer is known for wanting to play every game, the time for him to recover after the game against Switzerland on Tuesday might not have been long enough. More importantly, however, it would not be a good sign for the young newcomer if Nübel would not even get this game.In defense, Flick benefits from Löw’s decision to retire Jérôme Boateng from the national team despite the defensive problems in the DFB team. Hence, Boateng is going to be a certain starter. The only question is who will start next to him. Niklas Süle did not play a minute on Tuesday evening, so theoretically he would be available. The <em>Kicker</em>, on the other hand, speculated that Chris Richards might get a start, but he might not become fit in time. Javi Martínez is also available. The experienced player will probably be given preference, especially since he has not had any game time recently and cannot be exhausted.Because Alphonso Davies did not have to travel with his national team, he will probably start on Thursday and will be replaced on Saturday by Hernández, who still was away with the French national team on Wednesday. At right-back, the situation is also very clear: Newcomer Bouna Sarr will most likely get his first appearance in a Bayern shirt.<a href="#a-newcomer-in-midfield-or-still-er-a-loser"></a>A newcomer in midfield or still, er, a loser? The personell selection in central defense might have knock-on effects on the setup in midfield. If Flick thinks Süle is fit enough, Martínez will move into holding midfield next to newcomer Marc Roca. Although the very ambitious Angelo Stiller of Bayern’s reserve squad has been training with the first team during the week, Flick has not really put much trust in him so far. After all, it was the first time ever that he had been allowed to take part in first team training.Nevertheless, Sky reporter Torben Hoffmann recently reported that Stiller could make his debut against Düren. For the talented and strong midfielder, it would be a great chance to persuade the coaching team of his talent – unless they choose Süle and Martínez after all.In offense, Thomas Müller will be set. Here, too, Flick profits from the fact that Löw has removed him from the national team for good. The remaining three positions will probably be filled by two newcomers and a youth player: Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Douglas Costa and Jamal Musiala have the best chances of getting a start.<a href="#boateng-and-muller-provide-the-backbone"></a>Boateng and Müller provide the backboneIt will also be interesting to see who Flick will pick as the options from the bench. Besides many players from the reserves, Flick will probably want to have a few of his established players available as well to have…
Report: Bayern Munich decides against extending Boateng, leaving his future uncertain
Borussia Dortmund v FC Bayern Muenchen - Bundesliga Photo by Friedemann Vogel - Pool/Getty ImagesAfter ten years at the club, Boateng will leave Bayern Munich this summer, possibly for the Premier League or MLS.Per Bild, Bayern Munich has already made the hard decision not to offer Jerome Boateng a new contract. The decorated center-back will leave the club at the conclusion of the current season this summer.Boateng had recently indicated that he would be happy to extend his contract at Bayern. After nearly leaving because of friction with Niko Kovac, Boateng has revived his career under Hansi Flick. He was a critical part of the team that won the Treble last season, just as in 2013.But the decision was not his to make. Bild states that Boateng is disappointed, but the situation is not entirely clear. Sport1’s Florian Plettenberg says that Boateng’s management has not even heard of Bayern’s decision.Update #Boateng: His management is totally surprised about the News from BILD (that Boateng has to leave #FCBayern 2021). They are not informed about that decision so far. @SPORT1— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) November 12, 2020According to Bild, FC Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and FC Chelsea are monitoring Boateng’s situation, since he would come onto the market after a very strong season as a free agent. France v Germany - UEFA Nations League APhoto by Matthias Hangst/Bongarts/Getty ImagesThe senior players are unlikely to be brought back on to the international scene despite recent results of the German team under Jogi Low.After a humiliating 6-0 loss to Spain capping off a lacklustre two-year run under Joachim Low, the Bayern Munich duo of Thomas Muller and Jerome Boateng, along with Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels were expected to be considered for the German national team’s roster for the Euros. According to SPORT1 reporter Florian Plettenberg, however, that return may never materialise unless an acute shortage of personnel occurs:News Trio @DFB_Team: Despite their performances, Löw is not planning to nominate at least one player of the trio (Müller, Hummels, Boateng) in March. Only in the case of an acute shortage of personnel they could make a comeback (at the earliest for the EM2021 nomination). @SPORT1— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) January 29, 2021Calling back the trio to the national setup was allegedly part of the discussion between the DFB sporting director Oliver Bierhoff and Low after the loss to Spain. Now it seems that Low has regained his confidence to carry on without the ejected senior players barring any injuries. The possibility of representing Germany in the Olympics has also been thrown around for a while to give the decorated trio a befitting and deserving exit from the national team. Per Plettenberg however, Muller and Boateng will not be travelling with Germany to the Olympics.Update @Olympics/@DFB_Junioren: #Boateng, like Müller, is not on the NADA list and will therefore not take part in the Olympic Games. @SPORT1 #FCBayern— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) January 29, 2021Both of these reports, while being frustrating to some, do come with silver linings. Jogi Low’s arrogance to bite his words could ultimately lead to his departure from the Mannschaft as head coach. With Muller and Boa not on the Olympic list, they could still potentially be available on short notice for the Euros — with or without Low — should Germany want them.Given the current unsteady position of Low, this situation will very much evolve as the international fixtures play out.

Al Ahly SC v FC Bayern Muenchen - FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2020Photo by Colin McPhedran/MB Media/Getty ImagesBayern Munich will not set a timetable on Jerome Boateng’s return. In a sudden and shocking turn of events, Bayern Munich center-back Jerome Boateng had to abruptly leave Qatar upon learning of the death of his ex-girlfriend Kasia Lenhardt prior to his team’s championship match against Tigres UANL.Given the sensitive and personal nature of Boateng’s absence, Bayern Munich will give the veteran defender as much time off as he needs. In a show of support, the Bavarians will allow Boateng to determine his own timetable for a return per Sport1 journalist Florian Plettenberg:Update #Boateng: It is up to him when he returns to the pitch. The club wants to support him and they want to give him all the time he needs to come to terms with the private blow of fate. A possible contract extension is to be discussed in the spring. @SPORT1 #FCBayern— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) February 12, 2021Boateng’s absence can be accounted for fairly easily by Hansi Flick. With Niklas Süle showing that he is in good form, Flick will be able to provide ample coverage for Boateng, while the 32-year-old deals with his such personal matters. While the team’s schedule is hectic, center-back is one area where the club has quality depth. Should Boateng be out for an extended period, Benjamin Pavard could also slide into right center-back if needed. Left-footers David Alaba and Lucas Hernandez could also slide over in a pinch as well.

Who will win the race?Last we heard on Neuhaus, Bayern Munich was <a href="https://www.bavarianfootballworks.com/2021/4/2/22363748/bayern-munich-florian-neuhaus-borussia-monchengladbach-thomas-muller-leon-goretzka-joshua-kimmich">going to abstain</a> on a bid for the youngster. Perhaps the latest batch of injuries has changed those plans?<a href="https://twitter.com/Plettigoal/status/1381317874678169603?s=20">Brazzo’s timing was not good (@Plettigoal)</a>They say timing is everything, but Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidzic’s decision to inform Jerome Boateng that he was going to be cut loose after the season is highly questionable from a morale and motivation standpoint.Salihamidizic dropped the bad news to Boateng formally last Wednesday — a Champions League match day:News <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Boateng?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Boateng</a>: Salihamidzic has informed Boateng on Wednesday (Matchday against <a href="https://twitter.com/PSG_inside?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@PSG_inside</a>) about the fact that the club does not want to extend with him. If this is true (and there is no reason to think it’s not based on the original announcement from Brazzo), that is just a bad look.True story: I once got laid off (<em>by a lazy, good-for-nothing, waste of life</em>) hours before I was leaving for a family vacation (<em>zero humanity shown</em>). FBL-GER-BUNDESLIGA-BAYERN MUNICH-FREIBURGPhoto by SVEN HOPPE/POOL/AFP via Getty ImagesBayern Munich could be missing vocal leaders at center-back next season.According to Sport1 reporter Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick wanted to try and offset the loss of David Alaba by keeping Jerome Boateng in house because next season’s core of defenders is not as vocal or commanding on the pitch as Flick would like.Specifically, Flick just does not think Dayot Upamecano, Lucas Hernandez, Niklas Süle, Tanguy Nianzou, or Benjamin Pavard can fill that role at center-back:Update #Boateng: It was not an option for #FCBayern to give JB a strongly performance-based new contract. JB would have been open to it, he wanted to stay. Flick also wanted him one more year because he and Alaba are commanders. Upa, Hernández, Süle, Nianzou, Pavard not. @SPORT1— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) April 15, 2021Interestingly, Plettenberg also noted that Bayern Munich was not willing to propose an incentive-laden deal to Boateng even though the player would have been been interested in discussing such a contract. All of this adds to the speculation that Flick has become frustrated with Bayern Munich’s roster planning strategy. Flick values Alaba and Boateng immensely for what they bring to the table on the pitch and in the locker room. Losing both is a likely a very hard pill for the 56-year-old manager to swallow.

Olympique Lyon v Olympique Marseille - Ligue 1 Uber EatsPhoto by Jonathan Moscrop/Getty ImagesJerome Boateng sounds like he’s having a great time with Lyon.As Jerome Boateng is finding out, the Bayern Munich mentality is just not present at every club.According to a report from Sport1’s Kerry Hau, Boateng was dropped from the squad for Lyon’s match against Nice due to an altercation with teammates. While things did not get physical (this time...more on that in a bit), they were heated enough for Boateng to be benched. The brouhaha occurred because Boateng was unhappy that teammates were late to practice after Lyon dropped a 2-0 decision to AS Monaco last weekend:#Boateng bei Lyon aus dem Kader gestrichen – nach @SPORT1-Infos wegen eines verbalen Disputs mit Teamkollegen. Der Ex-Bayern-Star regte sich darüber auf, dass mehrere Mitspieler nach der Pleite in Monaco zu spät zum Training erschienen waren. Zu Handgreiflichkeiten kam es nicht.— Kerry Hau (@kerry_hau) February 12, 2022#Boateng has been dropped from Lyon’s squad - according to @SPORT1 because of a verbal dispute with teammates. The ex-Bayern star was upset that several teammates were late for training after the defeat in Monaco. There was no fisticuffs.L’Equipe (as captured by Get French Football News), however, reports that Boateng did get into a physical altercation with teammate Bruno Guimarães:The 33-year-old’s poor performance against Monaco last week did little to dispel the impression that 19-year-old Castello Lukeba is now the team’s defensive leader, while his leadership is internally seen as excessive. An L’Équipe source claims that “he is irritable and gives everyone grief.”The former Bayern Munich man also reportedly clashed with then-teammate Bruno Guimarães a few weeks ago over a comment made by the Brazilian, in a confrontation that came to blows and had to be broken up by several people. Other clashes have taken place, such as yelling at fellow defender Léo Dubois during the loss against Rennes, as well as singling out Rayan Cherki after the game. After Saturday’s loss to Monaco, Boateng came to manager Peter Bosz to discuss tactics, but the discussion was cut short by the Dutchman. The former Bayer Leverkusen manager had earlier this season asked for Brazilian defender Marcelo – now at Bordeaux – to be removed from the team due to disciplinary reasons, as well as his poor performances. A similar freezing out appears to have taken place with Boateng – defensive midfielder Thiago Mendes starts in defence on Saturday night. So, yeah, things might not be going so well for ol’ Jerome at Lyon.

Update — 5:45PM EDT: Romano thinks deal is imminentThe rumored deal between Bayern Munich and Jerome Boateng might not be a rumor much longer. Transfer whiz Fabrizio Romano says that Bayern Munich could have a deal done with Boateng within the next 24-48 hours: Bayern are in advanced talks to bring Jerome Boateng back to the club as free agent — deal at final stages.

Boateng has given his green light — he wants Bayern return, as first called by @Plettigoal.

Deal set to be completed in the next 24/48h. pic.twitter.com/t66oXzBU9t— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) September 30, 2023With Bayern Munich experiencing both injuries — and some poor performances — on the backline, the club could be looking at making an in-season purchase to help bolster things.Who is available that might be able to help?Well, it is a name you are likely very familiar with: Jerome Boateng. That’s right, per a report from Sky Sport’s Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich is in talks with Boateng, who is a free agent and just waiting to sign with a team: EXCLUSIVE News Jerome #Boateng: FC Bayern is working on his return!

➡️ Advanced talks took place as he’s a free agent
➡️ Bosses want him
➡️ Boateng is fit and ready for his comeback ✔️

No medical yet. Next round of meeting is scheduled for Sunday. @SkySportDE pic.twitter.com/mmZ24SjANU— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) September 30, 2023This news comes at a time when Bayern Munich is without a banged up Matthijs de Ligt and has seen both Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae scuffle a bit at different times. With only three top-flight center-backs on the roster, Bayern Munich finds itself needing some back-up.Earlier this week, head coach Thomas Tuchel had to roll out a center-back pairing of midfielder Leon Goretzka and right-back Noussair Mazraoui in the DFB-Pokal because De Ligt, Upamecano, and Min-jae were all out injured. Can a 35-year-old Boateng cure what ails Bayern Munich? Maybe, but the veteran has had some issues off the field, which have clouded the view that many have of him.Surely, some fans will not be happy with bringing the defender back at this stage of his career for various reasons. F1 Grand Prix of Monaco Photo by Emmanuele Ciancaglini/Ciancaphoto Studio/Getty Images This...would be a weird move for Bayern Munich. According to a report from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, Jerome Boateng will not sign a contract today, but it could just be a matter of time. It also appears that Thomas Tuchel is a driving force behind the move: ❗️Jerome #Boateng won’t sign a contract today. More talks and negotiations will follow as reported. But the bosses are still willing to offer him a short-term contract. ➡️ Bosses are aware that there are critics. But they are convinced that the 35 y/o will strengthen the squad ➡️ Boateng won’t travel with the team to Copenhagen ➡️ In August 2018 there was a secret meeting between Tuchel & Boateng in Munich. He wanted to bring him to #PSG at that time. FC Bayern München Team Presentation Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images The 35-year-old former Bayern player has rejected an offer from a Premier League club in hopes of returning to Bavaria. Bayern Munich’s center-back transfer saga continues as the club explores the option to bring back Jérôme Boateng, who is facing a protracted legal odyssey over the alleged assault of his former partner. As of Thursday, Bayern were reported to be “leaning towards” bringing back Boateng, now 35 and a free agent. The former Bayern star and German international has been training at the club and has impressed, per Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg:ℹ️ As reported this morning the Bayern bosses are leaning towards signing Jerome #Boateng. But there are still concerns. ➡️ Final decision is expected tomorrow➡️ He has made a good impression in training so far; bosses impressed about his fitness level. However, the club is also considering the possibility of continuing until January with only three centre-backs. The player also had an option to join English Premier League club Everton, but per TEAMtalk (via @iMiaSanMia), Boateng is holding out for a Bayern reunion. Will that happen? A fan protest is reportedly in the works for this Saturday’s home game against SC Freiburg:If by Saturday the club didn't decide against signing Jérôme Boateng, Bayern fans are planning to protest during Sunday's game against Freiburg and roll out banners calling to stop the move. It remains to be seen whether that will make the club's bosses rethink their decision… pic.twitter.com/bBgmAwJDKp— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) October 5, 2023Whether that will be enough to sway the bosses remains to be seen. As it stands, Bayern have a dicey injury situation on their hands after a deadline day debacle where they failed to land the likes of Chelsea FC’s Trevoh Chalobah before the transfer window shut.
