SSC Napoli v ACF Fiorentina - Serie A Photo by Jonathan Moscrop/Getty Images Get Kim to the chopper! Although we have to wait a few more days (years) for the official announcement of Kim Min-jae from Napoli, the plans for his first involvement with the club has been revealed. Bayern Munich have always visited Tegernsee for a training camp in the summer, but Kim won’t be able to join just yet. The Asia tour in Singapore and Japan? He will definitely be there.ℹ️ Min-Jae #Kim, he will not take part in the training camp at the Tegernsee. Which will start next Saturday. ️

➡️ But Kim is supposed to be a part of the Asia trip of FC Bayern in & !

➡️ Official announcement of the transfer will still take time.

Deal is done, as… pic.twitter.com/WKMZfOZIRa— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) July 10, 2023Bayern have now signed three players this summer transfer window: Kim, Konrad Laimer (RB Leipzig), and Raphael Guerreiro (Borussia Dortmund). Fans are still awaiting the blockbuster signing (read Harry Kane’s arrival from Tottenham Hotspur). Bayern will fight tooth and nail for the England international as they try to get the better of tough guy chairman Daniel Levy. One of the alternatives is Kim’s teammate at Napoli Victor Osimhen (who will cost way more than Kane, not to mention Aurelio De Laurentiis is just as hard, if not harder, to negotiate with than Levy). Busy summer for Bayern.

SSC Napoli v UC Sampdoria - Serie A Photo by Chris Brunskill/Fantasista/Getty Images Almost...there... Don’t worry, Bayern Munich really are still getting center-back Kim Min-jae. The 26-year-old Korean international, the Bavarians’ first external signing of the 2023 summer transfer window by way of Napoli, still hasn’t become official official official, but with contracts agreed, medicals passed and release clause paid, the delay is down to details. From Spanish outlet Foot Mercato journalists, via @iMiaSanMia:Kim Min-jae to Bayern is now fully done. The last details between Napoli & Bayern have been finalized. FCB paid the release clause, while Napoli will have a % sell-on and some performance related add-ons. Kim will sign his contract at the weekend [@sebnonda, @Santi_J_FM]So no, the reigning Serie A champions aren’t dragging their feet and they haven’t gotten cold feet either. They are, however, losing a very good footballer and sending him Bayern’s way. And while the Spanish journalists are hardly going out on a limb on this one — let’s face it, everyone has known this was a done deal for a while — perhaps they want to show they are plugged into sources in the transfer world of Germany and Italy.Bayern fans will hope Kim will be having the kind of season that hits those performance add-ons...and the kind of career in Bavaria that will make the sell-on clause irrelevant.Recent news also indicated that Kim could join Bayern Munich as early as tonight:Min-Jae #Kim is expected to join the team tonight. In their training camp at the Tegernsee… ️

It's not 100 % clear yet, but that‘s the plan.

As Bayern Munich prepares to square off with Bayer Leverkusen, a lot of the focus for fans has been on the health status of goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Arsenal FC v FC Bayern München: Quarter-final First Leg - UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images Is the defender already planning to leave Bayern Munich? Bayern Munich center-back Kim Min-jae has devolved from consistent starter to bench player during his first season in Germany and he does not seem to like it. As such, the Korean has been linked to his old club, Napoli. According to Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Min-jae is frustrated, but not yet thinking about a move: Kim Min-jae is frustrated with his current situation but has no intention of leaving Bayern and wants to stay and prove himself next season.Plettenberg offered more information as well: Min-jae #Kim is currently only the third-choice center-back at FC Bayern!

He wants to tough it out and prove next season why Bayern brought him in last summer. He feels comfortable in Munich and at the club, though.Contract valid until 2028. @SkySportDE Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also indicated that all hope might not be lost for Min-jae in his latest column for CaughtOffside: Kim was an impressive performer at Napoli and he surely still has what it takes to have a positive impact at Bayern, though Romano admits the situation could change if the new manager decides to let the 27-year-old leave. This could be an interesting one to watch, with Bayern’s manager situation still not resolved since Thomas Tuchel recently announced he’d be stepping down at the end of this current season.Discussing Kim’s situation amid talk of a speedy exit from Bayern, Romano said: “From my understanding, there’s nothing in the reports of Kim Min-jae potentially returning to Napoli this summer. He wants to play more of course but he’s prepared to fight for his place at Bayern.” He added: “The situation could only change in case the new head coach tells him to leave the club.”As indicated, Min-jae’s feeling on his future in Bavaria could largely be determined by whoever the new coach is for the club. A coach who plans to use a back three based formation could make life easier for players like Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano, but could cause issues at other spots on the roster.

Manchester United v FC Bayern München: Group A - UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Photo by Richard Sellers/Sportsphoto/Allstar via Getty Images Are the injury gods toying with Bayern Munich already? Fans already fretting the status of Bayern Munich’s backline probably got a little anxious earlier today when reports started to break that neither Kim Min-jae, nor Dayot Upamecano were present at the team’s training session. After the Bundesliga opener where neither Min-jae nor Upamecano were really all that solid individually (as a pairing, the duo was subpar as well), losing both players still would have been a punch to the gut to fans already reeling and eager to see the players improve: No Kim Min-jae (for the second day in a row) and no Dayot Upamecano in today's team training pic.twitter.com/kQg22QJ9Ly— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) August 28, 2024However, there was a reason. FC Internazionale Milano v FC Bayern München - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 Quarter Final Second Leg Photo by Image Photo Agency/Getty Images KMJ’s transition to the Bundesliga has been rocky from the start. The lack of rotation at Bayern Munich during the Vincent Kompany era has become a common source of frustration for fans. Bayern will finish the season without four of the club’s best players: Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, Dayot Upamecano, and Manuel Neuer.Between club and country, Kim Min-jae has racked up over 4,000 minutes of game time. Naturally, this has led to some wear-and-tear on his Achilles tendon. In recent weeks, Kim has been repeatedly beaten by attackers because he lacks the necessary burst to win 1v1s on the ground and in the air.Does this drop in form indicate that Bayern is ready to cut their losses? Not quite, according to Sky Sport’s Florian Plettenberg. #Kim Min-jae is not considered untouchable at FC Bayern. While the club are not actively looking to sell him, they would be open to listening to suitable offers in the summer.

Otherwise, they are currently planning for next season with Kim, Upamecano, Ito, Dier, and Stanišić as their centre-back options. Kim’s contract runs until 2028.Meanwhile, Sport Bild’s Christian Falk (CaughtOffside via @iMiaSanMia) is reporting similar information to Plettenberg and also added that Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen would be a potential replacement for Min-jae: Bayern are currently still planning with Kim Min-jae, but if a club comes along that pays in the region of €50million, then he is a candidate to be sold this summer. Bayern still have Dean Huijsen on their list. His €60 million release clause could be financed with the sale of Kim.In 2023, Bayern acquired from Napoli for €50M. Kim was the reigning Serie A Defender of the Year. Bayern would prefer to have the healthy version of Kim. However, if they can sell him for a similar fee then the club would be content to end the experiment and move on to a different option to compete for a starting role at center-back.
