Security Council Press Statement for the Houthi Detentions anniversary 6 June

As the second anniversary of the June 2024 detentions approaches, the members of the Security Council reaffirmed their condemnation in the strongest terms of the detentions by the Houthis of personnel from the United Nations system, national and international non-governmental organisations (NGOs), civil society organisations and diplomatic missions. They expressed deep concern for the welfare of those personnel unjustly detained since 2021, 2023, 2024 and 2025.

The members of the Security Council reiterated their demand for the unconditional, safe and immediate release of these detainees, including 73 United Nations personnel, and reiterated that all threats to those delivering humanitarian assistance are unacceptable and worsen the dire humanitarian situation in Yemen. They welcomed the continued work of the United Nations through all possible channels to secure the immediate release of those detained.

The members of the Security Council reiterated the obligations of all parties to a conflict to allow and facilitate, in a manner consistent with relevant provisions of international humanitarian law, full, safe and unhindered humanitarian access to all civilians in need, and to promote the safety, security and freedom of movement of humanitarian, United Nations and associated personnel, and the safety and security of their premises and assets.

The members of the Security Council emphasised that the humanitarian situation will continue to deteriorate in the absence of a political solution, with over 22.3 million Yemenis now in need of assistance, and reaffirmed their strong commitment to the unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Yemen, and its commitment to stand by the people of Yemen. They reiterated their support for United Nations Special Envoy Hans Grundberg in his efforts towards a negotiated, inclusive, Yemeni-led and Yemeni-owned political settlement based on the agreed references and consistent with relevant Security Council resolutions.

بيان صحفي صادر عن مجلس الأمن بمناسبة الذكرى الثانية لاحتجازات الحوثيين – 6 حزيران/يونيو 2026

مع اقتراب الذكرى الثانية لعمليات الاحتجاز التي جرت في حزيران/يونيو 2024، جدد أعضاء مجلس الأمن إدانتهم بأشد العبارات لاحتجاز الحوثيين لموظفين من منظومة الأمم المتحدة، ومنظمات غير حكومية وطنية ودولية، ومنظمات المجتمع المدني، والبعثات الدبلوماسية. وأعربوا عن قلقهم البالغ على سلامة الموظفين المحتجزين ظلماً منذ الأعوام 2021 و2023 و2024 و2025.

وجدد أعضاء مجلس الأمن مطالبتهم بالإفراج الفوري والآمن وغير المشروط عن جميع المحتجزين، بمن فيهم 73 من موظفي الأمم المتحدة، مؤكدين مجدداً أن جميع التهديدات التي يتعرض لها العاملون في مجال تقديم المساعدات الإنسانية غير مقبولة وتفاقم الوضع الإنساني المتردي في اليمن. ورحبوا بجهود الأمم المتحدة المتواصلة عبر جميع القنوات المتاحة لضمان الإفراج الفوري عن المحتجزين.

وأكد أعضاء مجلس الأمن مجدداً التزامات جميع أطراف النزاع بالسماح وتيسير وصول المساعدات الإنسانية بشكل كامل وآمن ودون عوائق إلى جميع المدنيين المحتاجين، بما يتوافق مع أحكام القانون الدولي الإنساني ذات الصلة، وتعزيز سلامة وأمن وحرية تنقل العاملين في المجال الإنساني وموظفي الأمم المتحدة والعاملين المرتبطين بهم، وضمان سلامة وأمن مقارهم وممتلكاتهم.

وشدد أعضاء مجلس الأمن على أن الوضع الإنساني سيستمر في التدهور في غياب حل سياسي، في وقت يحتاج فيه أكثر من 22.3 مليون يمني إلى المساعدة الإنسانية. وأكدوا مجدداً التزامهم الراسخ بوحدة اليمن وسيادته واستقلاله وسلامة أراضيه، والتزامهم بالوقوف إلى جانب الشعب اليمني. كما جددوا دعمهم للمبعوث الخاص للأمم المتحدة إلى اليمن، هانس غروندبرغ، لجهوده الرامية إلى التوصل إلى تسوية سياسية تفاوضية شاملة بقيادة وملكية يمنية، تستند إلى المرجعيات المتفق عليها وتتسق مع قرارات مجلس الأمن ذات الصلة.

Starting today, the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen is convening in Amman a new round of technical meetings within the framework of the Military Coordination Committee (MCC), bringing together representatives of the Government of Yemen and the Joint Forces Command. Building on previous meetings of the MCC, the meeting will focus on the current context in Yemen and explore ways to improve security for Yemenis through de-escalation and continued dialogue.

The Office of the Special Envoy concludes a new round of Military Coordination Committee meetings

Amman, 10 June 2026 – The Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen (OSESGY) today concluded a meeting in Amman, bringing together representatives of the Military Coordination Committee (MCC) from the Government of Yemen and the Joint Forces Command.

Building on previous meetings held under the MCC framework, the delegations discussed recent developments in Yemen and the region with a focus on ceasefire planning, maritime security, and de-escalation steps.

“Such engagement – under United Nations auspices - remains critical in a rapidly evolving and unpredictable security environment for Yemen and the region”, said UN Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg. “Sustaining substantive dialogue in the MCC and other channels can concretely support our broader efforts towards advancing lasting peace in Yemen.”

Based on a commitment from all sides, OSESGY is planning to convene all three delegations of the MCC in the coming period.

مكتب المبعوث الخاص يختتم جولة جديدة من اجتماعات لجنة التنسيق العسكري

عمّان، 10 يونيو/حزيران 2026 – اختتم مكتب المبعوث الخاص للأمين العام إلى اليمن اليوم في عمّان اجتماعاً ضم ممثلين عن لجنة التنسيق العسكري من الحكومة اليمنية وقيادة القوات المشتركة.

استناداً إلى الاجتماعات السابقة التي عُقدت في إطار لجنة التنسيق العسكري، ناقشت الوفود آخر التطورات في اليمن والمنطقة، وتم التركيز على التخطيط لوقف إطلاق النار، والأمن البحري، وخطوات خفض التصعيد.

UN Special Envoy concludes visit to Riyadh

Amman, 10 June 2026 – United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg concluded a visit to Riyadh, where he met with the President of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), Rashad Al Alimi, PLC member, Abdul Rahman Al-Muharrami, and other senior Yemeni officials, as well as the Saudi Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber, the ambassadors of the permanent members of the UN Security Council (P5) and other diplomats.
The Special Envoy exchanged views on recent developments in Yemen and the region, underscoring the importance of maintaining stability, addressing urgent economic issues, and exploring practical ways to advance the political process under United Nations auspices.
He stressed the critical importance of continued constructive regional and international engagement in support of a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Yemen.

عمّان، 10 يونيو/حزيران 2026 – اختتم المبعوث الأممي الخاص إلى اليمن، هانس غروندبرغ، زيارة إلى الرياض، حيث التقى برئيس مجلس القيادة الرئاسي، رشاد العليمي، وعضو مجلس القيادة الرئاسي عبد الرحمن المحرّمي، وعدد من كبار المسؤولين اليمنيين، بالإضافة إلى سفير المملكة العربية السعودية لدى اليمن، محمد آل جابر، وسفراء الدول دائمة العضوية في مجلس الأمن (P5)، ودبلوماسيين آخرين.
تبادل المبعوث الأممي وجهات النظر حول آخر التطورات في اليمن والمنطقة، مؤكداً أهمية الحفاظ على الاستقرار، ومعالجة القضايا الاقتصادية الملحّة، واستكشاف سبل عملية لدفع العملية السياسية برعاية الأمم المتحدة.

Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General – Two years of detention of UN and other personnel in Yemen
The Secretary-General reiterates his condemnation of the arbitrary detention of dozens of personnel from the United Nations, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, and diplomatic missions by the Houthi de facto authorities in June 2024. He also again condemns the arbitrary detention of UN personnel in 2025, 2023, and 2021 and calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all those detained.
Seventy-three United Nations personnel remain arbitrarily detained. One United Nations colleague has died in detention. Some colleagues are being held incommunicado. These actions violate international law, cause deep suffering to families, and have severely constrained the ability of the United Nations and its partners to assist millions of people in need across Yemen.
United Nations personnel, including those who are nationals of Yemen, are immune from legal process in respect of all acts performed by them in their official capacity.
The Secretary-General underscores the importance of continued dialogue and engagement with the Houthi de facto authorities to secure the release of detained personnel and enable the resumption of humanitarian and development activities.
The United Nations will continue to pursue all possible avenues to secure the immediate and safe release of those detained. The Secretary-General stands in solidarity with them and their families and reiterates that humanitarian workers should never be targeted or detained for carrying out their vital work.
The Secretary-General remains steadfast in the United Nations’ commitment to support the people of Yemen and their aspirations for a just and lasting peace.

يُجدد الأمين العام إدانته للاحتجازات التعسفية التي نفذتها سلطات الأمر الواقع الحوثية بحق عشرات الموظفين التابعين للأمم المتحدة والمنظمات غير الحكومية ومنظمات المجتمع المدني والبعثات الدبلوماسية. كما يُجدد إدانته للاحتجاز التعسفي لموظفي الأمم المتحدة في أعوام 2025 و2023 و2021، ويدعو إلى الإفراج الفوري وغير المشروط عن جميع المحتجزين.

ولا يزال ثلاثة وسبعون موظفاً من موظفي الأمم المتحدة محتجزين تعسفياً. وقد تُوفي أحد زملائنا من موظفي الأمم المتحدة أثناء الاحتجاز. كما يُحتجز بعض الزملاء بمعزل عن العالم الخارجي من دون السماح لهم بالتواصل مع أسرهم أو محاميهم. وتشكل هذه الإجراءات انتهاكاً للقانون الدولي، وتتسبب في معاناة عميقة للأسر، كما حدّت بشكل كبير من قدرة الأمم المتحدة وشركائها على تقديم المساعدة لملايين المحتاجين في جميع أنحاء اليمن.

يتمتع موظفو الأمم المتحدة، بمن فيهم مواطنو اليمن، بالحصانة من الإجراءات القانونية فيما يتعلق بجميع الأعمال التي يقومون بها بصفتهم الرسمية.

ويشدد الأمين العام على أهمية مواصلة الحوار والتواصل مع سلطات الأمر الواقع الحوثية لضمان إطلاق سراح الموظفين المحتجزين وتمكين استئناف الأنشطة الإنسانية والتنموية.

وستواصل الأمم المتحدة السعي عبر جميع السبل الممكنة لضمان الإفراج الفوري والآمن عن المحتجزين. ويؤكد الأمين العام تضامنه الكامل معهم ومع أسرهم، ويجدد التأكيد على أن العاملين في المجال الإنساني لا ينبغي أن يكونوا هدفاً للاحتجاز بسبب أدائهم لعملهم الحيوي.
