Something unusual appears to be going on today at RAF Fairford near Gloucestershire in the United Kingdom, with at least 10 C-17A Globemaster IIIs with the U.S. Air Force arriving at the base or currently crossing the Atlantic from the United States. Almost all of the C-17s appear to be out of either Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia, the home of the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment and the 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR); or Campbell Army Airfield in Kentucky, which houses the 101st Airborne Division and the 1st/2nd Battalions of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR).

#AE080F 99-0169 - REACH 130 (Pope AAF & Oceana NAS)

At least seven C-17's are either en route, or have arrived at RAF Fairford today, primarily from Hunter and Campbell Army Airfields. Additional flights have arrived without appearing on tracking sites, therefore I will not display these serials or callsigns.

This is in addition to a C-40 that stopped by earlier in the week, and two U.S. Navy P-8 Poseidon's that are currently operating from RAF Mildenhall in the atlantic.

RT @ArmchairAdml: #USAF United States Air Force - Middle East Activity
21 January 2026 - 1025z

There have been a total of nine tanker movements overnight from CONUS to Europe and the Middle East. Additionally, more C-17's from RAF Lakenheath and Ramstein to Jordan.

The totals so far since 16 January are 29 C-17's and 12 KC-135's.

Note: All the information in these posts is obtained via public sources (FlightRadar24/ADS-B/ACARS), and discrete movements are omitted.

Tanker Movements
#AE014E 63-8872 - REACH 800 (Bangor ANGB)
#AE07A7 59-1498 - REACH 801 (Bangor ANGB)
#AE013A 59-1488 - REACH 802 (Bangor ANGB)
#AE0847 58-0107 - REACH 803 (Bangor ANGB)
#AE0152 63-8034 - REACH 892 (MacDill AFB)

Four KC-135's departed Bangor ANGB and have travelled directly to Al Udeid in Qatar. This is possibly just a rotation of the tankers already in Qatar, of which some have been there since October, but it's important to note.

REACH 892 is the second tanker to depart MacDill AFB for RAF Mildenhall. The other, REACH 891, hasn't departed yet.

Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, Jordan
#AE1462 06-6164 - REACH 865 (RAF Lakenheath)
#AE1239 04-4129 - REACH 841 (RAF Lakenheath)
#AE10BA 01-0191 - REACH 439 (Ramstein)
#AE145A 06-6156 - REACH 844 (Ramstein)

Four more C-17's have flown to Salti overnight. Two went from Ramstein to RAF Lakenheath, while the other two went straight to Jordan. These are still on the same range of mission codes as the others over the past few days.

Naval Support Facility Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory
#AE1450 05-5146 - REACH 160 (Yokota Air Base, Japan)

A single C-17 from Yokota arrived at Diego Garcia overnight.

Summary
The additional tanker movements could well be rotations for units that have been at Al Udeid for a few months, but these rotations typically make stops at Mildenhall rather than going direct - even from Bangor. It will be interesting to see if the two tankers at Mildenhall move in the next day or so.

Any additions or corrections please let me know. For older movements please see the quoted posts, as there isn't enough space to fit everything in a single screenshot now.

Thanks!

20 January 2026 - 2140z

Good Evening everyone, we have potential tanker movements!

Note: All the information in these posts is obtained via public sources (FlightRadar24/ADS-B/ACARS), and discrete movements are omitted. I have also cropped out older movements as the table is getting too long.

March Air Reserve Base, California
#AE0665 61-0299 - REACH 040
#AE0163 58-0052 - REACH 039
#AE0269 57-2603 - REACH 038
#AE0149 57-1468 - REACH 037

At least four (at the time of writing) KC-135's based at March ARB in California have filed via ACARS for Moron Air Base in Spain. This is a particularly interesting move given the route the B-2's took during Operation Midnight Hammer.

RAF Lakenheath, United Kingdom
#AE1461 06-6163 - REACH 876 (Ramstein)
#AE1198 03-3115 - REACH 869 (Ramstein)

Two aircraft currently on the ground at Lakenheath. There has been a total of four flights here today. REACH 844 departed earlier today but returned to Ramstein and did not continue on to Jordan.

Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, Jordan
#AE117D 02-1111 - REACH 856 (Lakenheath)
#AE49C7 09-9211 - REACH 854 (Lakenheath)
#AE2FAC 08-8200 - REACH 835 (Lakenheath)

Three additional C-17's have arrived, or are en route, to Muwaffaq Salti. This brings the total number of C-17's here from Lakenheath to eight, plus another two that are still on the ground at Lakenheath.

Unknown Final Location / Potential Involvement

U.S. Air Force C-17A Globemaster IIIs have once again begun to steadily flow eastward out of Robert Gray Army Airfield located inside of Fort Hood, Texas, after a several-day delay due to the ice and snow, with the C-17s likely carrying additional Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) Anti-Ballistic Missile Systems assigned to the U.S. Army’s 62nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment to bases in the Middle East.

#USAF United States Air Force - Air Defence Movements
29 January 2026 - 1130z

Nine C-17's from Robert Gray Army Airfield, otherwise known at Fort Hood, have either departed, or are waiting to depart. Fort Hood houses two THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defence) anti-ballistic missile batteries of the U.S. Army - B and E Battery of the 62nd Air Defence Artillery Regiment.

This brings the total number of C-17's from Robert Gray to sixteen.

Aside from that, and CORONET East 037 which moved about two hours ago, COBRA 31 arrived at RAF Mildenhall from Offutt AFB. It's unknown whether this will continue on to the Middle East. This is the WC-135 variant used for detecting nuclear explosions in the atmosphere. These have been deployed to Mildenhall multiple times in the past.

Robert Gray Army Airfield / Fort Hood
Boeing C-17 Globemaster III 9x
#AE1459 06-6155 - REACH 861 (Spangdahlem)
#AE10BA 01-0191 - REACH 749 (McGuire AFB)
#AE123D 04-4132 - REACH 896 (Spangdahlem)
#AE1177 02-1105 - REACH 457 (Spangdahlem)
#AE2FAD 08-8201 - REACH 826 (Dover AFB)
#AE4F12 10-0218 - REACH 871 (Pease ANGB)
#AE07FF 98-0053 - REACH 855 (Robert Gray)
#AE2FA4 08-8192 - REACH 874 (Spangdahlem)
#AE1468 07-7170 - REACH 851 (Spangdahlem)

There have been nine movements from Robert Gray/Fort Hood in the past 12 hours. At least one has travelled directly from Texas to Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany, while the others clearly have heavy loads and are making stops at McGuire, Pease and Dover.

Other Movements
Boeing C-17 Globemaster III 2x
#AE20CA 07-7189 - REACH 858 (Dover AFB)
#AE1469 07-7171 - REACH 300 (Roosevelt Roads)

REACH 858 has arrived at Ramstein from Dover AFB, it may possibly continue on to the Middle East. Additionally, REACH 300 from Roosevelt Roads has arrived at Lajes.

Summary
The resumption of movements of the THAAD batteries is clearly in full swing. In total, there are sixteen flights from Robert Gray Army Airfield.
- Five have travelled via Spangdahlem to Ali Al Salem Air base in Kuwait
- Six are either at, or en route, to Spangdahlem
- Four are en route to stop-over bases on the U.S. East Coast
- One has travelled to Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia

Any additions or corrections please let me know. Thanks!

There have now been at least 140 US Air Force flights to the Middle East & Diego Garcia since January 14th, according to @ArmchairAdml

"With 79 total flights from bases housing Patriot and THAAD systems, we are possibly nearing completion of the air defence movements"

#USAF United States Air Force - Middle East Activity
10 February - 1130z

There has now been at least 140 flights of U.S. Air Force C-17 and C-5 aircraft from bases in the United States and Japan to the CENTCOM AOR since 14 January.

These flights have been primarily from U.S. Army Airfields, followed by U.S. Air Force bases related to deployed fighters. The breakdown of the flights is as follows:

Arrived/En Route/Filed via ACARS: 140
Muwaffaq Salti Air Base: 83
Prince Sultan Air Base: 19
Ali Al Salem Air Base: 13
Al Udeid Air Base: 13
Diego Garcia NSF: 9
Isa Air Base: 3

There are currently only three flights in-progress, two from Biggs AAF, and the other from Robert Gray AAF.

There have been two CORONET movements today. The first was an attempted move of the 12x "MO" F-15E Strike Eagles of Mountain Home Air Force Base from Souda Bay to Moron. The second being the 6x "VT" F-35As at Naval Station Rota relocating to Moron.

NOTE: All information is obtained via public sources (ADS-B/ACARS), and this list is by no means exhaustive.

#AE0375 58-0042 - BLUE 71
#AE07C2 63-8020 - BLUE 62
#AE04E8 60-0356 - BLUE 61

Two of the four BLUE tankers that arrived at Moron over the past few days positioned further to Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. Along with two based tankers at Al Udeid, BLUE 61/62 and BLUE 71/72 flights departed Al Udeid for Souda Bay, where 12x F-15E Strike Eagles from Mountain Home AFB had moved on the 9th February.

The rumour had been that they would fly to RAF Lakenheath without tanker support, making another stop at Aviano. These tankers were due to take them to Moron, but weather at Moron meant they cancelled. The tankers returned to Moron, and the fighters remained at Souda Bay.
