In verse 12 of Surah An-Nazi'at, it is stated:

▫️ But on the Day of Judgment, the truth of such intentions will be unveiled, and the deviators will stand disgraced before the Prophet (s) and the Awaited Imam (aj).

🌑 The Ultimate Denial on the Day of Regret 🌑

Surah Al-An'am (The Cattle), Verse 23:

"Then their only argument will be to say: 'By Allah, our Lord, we were not those who associated others (with Allah).'" 🤥

This verse paints a terrifying scene from the Day of Judgment. Those who committed shirk (associating partners with Allah) will be confronted with their ultimate reality. In a state of sheer panic and self-deception, their only feeble defense will be to swear by Allah Himself—the very God they disobeyed—that they were not mushrikeen (polytheists).

The Ahl al-Bayt (عليهم السلام) provide profound insights into this verse:

1️⃣ The "Argument" is a Lie
Imam as-Sadiq(عليه السلام) clarify that the word fitnah (فِتْنَتُهُمْ) here means their "false excuse" or their "lie." Their claim is not a valid argument; it is a blatant falsehood they tell to try and save themselves. Allah Himself exposes them in the next verse: "See how they lie against themselves!"
