✅ Why is #Shirk the Greatest #Sin in Islam?

💠 A minute to learn one of the greatest secrets of Islam.

Rahyafte (The Guided Ones)
🔹 Qur’an 4:47 — A Walāyah and Mahdawī Perspective 🌙 The Noble Verse “O you who were given the Book! Believe in what We have sent down, confirming what is with you, before We obliterate faces and turn them backwards, or curse them as We cursed the Sabbath…
🔹 Qur’an 4:48 — A Walāyah and Mahdawī Reflection

🌙 The Noble Verse

“Surely Allah does not forgive that partners should be set up with Him, but He forgives whatever is besides that for whomsoever He pleases; and whoever sets up partners with Allah has indeed devised a great sin.”
(Qur’an 4:48)

✍️ Walāyah-Based Narrations

1️⃣ Imam ʿAlī (ʿa) 💬
“The Messenger of Allah (ṣ) said: Whoever sincerely says Lā ilāha illā Allāh is free from shirk; whoever dies without shirk enters Paradise... and whoever is of your followers, Allah will forgive him.”
📚 Tafsīr Ahl al-Bayt, vol. 3, p. 210

2️⃣ Imam ʿAlī (ʿa) 💬
“There is no verse in the Qur’an dearer to me than this one.”
📚 al-Tawḥīd, p. 409

3️⃣ Imam al-Bāqir (ʿa) 💬
“Shirk in the Walāyah of ʿAlī (ʿa) is unforgivable; any other sin can be forgiven if one accepts his Walāyah.”
📚 Biḥār al-Anwār, vol. 36, p. 136

4️⃣ Imam al-Bāqir (ʿa) 💬
“When you are called to the Walāyah of ʿAlī (ʿa), you disbelieve; but if another is set up as a partner, you believe!”
📚 Biḥār al-Anwār, vol. 23, p. 363

5️⃣ Imam al-Ṣādiq (ʿa) 💬
“Whoever denies the Walāyah of ʿAlī (ʿa) is like an idol-worshipper.”
📚 Biḥār al-Anwār, vol. 24, p. 123

6️⃣ Ibn ʿAbbās (ra) 💬
“This is among the greatest verses and more precious to the Ummah than all the treasures of the heavens.”
📚 Baḥr al-ʿIrfān, vol. 4, p. 243

🌟 Walāyah Insight

🔹 Pure monotheism hinges on acceptance of the Walāyah of ʿAlī (ʿa); shirk in lordship and shirk in Walāyah are both unforgivable.
🔹 This verse proves that true Walāyah is an extension of pure Tawḥīd.
🔹 In the logic of the Ahl al-Bayt (ʿa), denying the Walāyah of the Commander of the Faithful is akin to forging a partner with Allah.

✨ Mahdawī Insight

🔸 The flow of Walāyah continues through the lineage of ʿAlī (ʿa) until the Qā’im (ʿaj).
🔸 Whoever rejects the Walāyah of the Mahdī (ʿaj) is, in truth, violating pure Tawḥīd.
🔸 In the era of reappearance, this line of pure devotion becomes manifest; the sincere ones declare: Lā ilāha illā Allāh, Muḥammad Rasūl Allāh, ʿAlī Walī Allāh.
🔸 The army of the Qā’im (ʿaj) will be the faithful ones who cleanse the earth of shirk and hypocrisy under the banner of Walāyah.

✅ Walāyah and Mahdawī Conclusion

✔️ The only path to freedom from shirk is sincere devotion in Tawḥīd and Walāyah.
✔️ Followers of Walāyah will find divine safety on the Day of Judgment; sins other than shirk (and denial of Walāyah) will be forgiven for them.
✔️ The gravest betrayal of Tawḥīd is to reject Walāyah and create false claimants to divine authority.

🔵 Verse 115 — Surah An-Nisa | Wilayah & Mahdawi Explanation 🌙 The Noble Verse “And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows a path other than that of the believers — We will turn him to what he has turned to and drive…
🔹 Verse 116 – Surah An-Nisa | Wilayah and Mahdawi Explanation

🌙 Noble Verse

“Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And whoever associates others with Allah has certainly gone far astray.” (An-Nisa 4:116)

✍️ Wilayah Narration

✅ Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) 💬 said: “When I stood on a mountain during Hajj and looked at the crowds, I said: ‘How loud are their cries, but how few are the true pilgrims!’ Dawud al-Raqqi asked: ‘O son of the Messenger of Allah! Are the prayers of these people accepted?’ He replied: ‘Woe to you! Allah does not forgive the one who associates partners with Him. Whoever denies the Wilayah of Ali (peace be upon him) is like an idol-worshipper.’” 📚 Tafsir Ahl al-Bayt, vol. 3 | Mustadrak al-Wasa’il

🌟 Wilayah Perspective

🔹 This verse makes clear that shirk (polytheism) is the gravest unforgivable sin.
🔹 According to the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), rejecting the Wilayah of Amir al-Mu’minin Ali (peace be upon him) is spiritually equal to polytheism.
🔹 Wilayah is the extension of pure monotheism; severing from it is a hidden form of idol-worship.
🔹 Imam al-Sadiq’s comparison of denying Wilayah with idol-worship reveals the depth of this deviation from the essence of faith. 🕊️

✨ Mahdawi Perspective

🔸 In the era of occultation, this truth remains: the Wilayah of Imam al-Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance) is the continuation of Tawhid, Prophethood, and the Wilayah chain.
🔸 Denying the existence and Imamate of the Awaited Imam is an extension of rejecting Ali’s (peace be upon him) Wilayah and leads only to deep misguidance.
🔸 True Wilayah is the condition for accepted deeds; no matter how many pilgrimages or prayers one performs, without loyalty to Allah’s Proof, they are fruitless. 💠

✅ Wilayah and Mahdawi Conclusion

✔️ Wilayah is the core of pure faith—without it, all else is hollow.
✔️ Shirk is not only external idol-worship but includes cutting oneself off from rightful Wilayah, which equals appointing partners in divine authority.
✔️ The path of salvation in the end times is the same covenant that began with Ali’s (peace be upon him) Wilayah and continues with Imam al-Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance). 🛤️

The Grave Sin of Shirk: A Warning from Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:72)

"Certainly, those who say, 'Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary,' have committed disbelief. The Messiah himself said, 'O Children of Israel! Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. Indeed, whoever associates partners with Allah, Allah has forbidden Paradise for them, and their refuge will be the Fire. The wrongdoers will have no helpers.'"

🔍 Insights from the Ahlulbayt (AS)

1️⃣ Imam Sadiq (AS) on Major Sins
When asked about the greatest sin, Imam Sadiq (AS) replied:
"The worst of major sins is shirk (associating partners with Allah)—Allah says: 'Whoever associates partners with Allah, Allah has forbidden Paradise for them.'"
(Al-Kafi, Vol. 2, p. 285 | Tafsir Ahlulbayt, Vol. 4, p. 180
)

2️⃣ Clarifying Misinterpretations
A companion asked Imam Sadiq (AS) about the hadith:
"Whoever does not commit shirk will enter Paradise."
The Imam (AS) corrected:
"This refers to those who never disobey Allah—not merely avoiding idol worship."
(Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 69, p. 98)

3️⃣ Imam Ali (AS) on Types of Shirk
Imam Ali (AS) explained that shirk appears in four forms, including:
- Verbal shirk (like claiming "Allah is Jesus")
- Descriptive shirk (attributing divine qualities to others)
(Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 69, p. 100)

4️⃣ Imam Baqir (AS) on the Test of Imam Mahdi (AJ)
The Imam (AS) warned:
"Recognizing the Qa’im (AJ) is obligatory—whoever doubts him meets Allah as a disbeliever. Those who reject him will be denied Paradise, and their fate is Hellfire."
(Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 24, p. 241
)

💡 Key Lessons
✔ Shirk is the ultimate betrayal—it denies Allah’s oneness and leads to eternal loss.
✔ True belief requires submission—even Jesus (AS) affirmed worship of Allah alone.
✔ The test of divine leadership continues—rejecting the Imam of the time is a form of shirk.

🌹 Reflection:
Do we truly worship Allah alone, or have we unknowingly elevated others to His rank?

🌑 The Ultimate Denial on the Day of Regret 🌑

Surah Al-An'am (The Cattle), Verse 23:

"Then their only argument will be to say: 'By Allah, our Lord, we were not those who associated others (with Allah).'" 🤥

This verse paints a terrifying scene from the Day of Judgment. Those who committed shirk (associating partners with Allah) will be confronted with their ultimate reality. In a state of sheer panic and self-deception, their only feeble defense will be to swear by Allah Himself—the very God they disobeyed—that they were not mushrikeen (polytheists).

---

🔍 Tafsir (Exegesis) & Deeper Meaning

The Ahl al-Bayt (عليهم السلام) provide profound insights into this verse:

1️⃣ The "Argument" is a Lie
Imam as-Sadiq(عليه السلام) clarify that the word fitnah (فِتْنَتُهُمْ) here means their "false excuse" or their "lie." Their claim is not a valid argument; it is a blatant falsehood they tell to try and save themselves. Allah Himself exposes them in the next verse: "See how they lie against themselves!" (Quran 6:24) 🤥

2️⃣ It Refers to Muslims Who Strayed
A powerful narration shows Imam as-Sadiq(عليه السلام) correcting Abu Hanifa's misunderstanding. The Imam (عليه السلام) explained this verse is about "a group from the people of the Qibla" (i.e., Muslims) who fell into shirk "without them realizing it." 😳

They performed the outward acts of worship but held beliefs or followed paths that constituted hidden shirk, all while believing they were doing good.

3️⃣ The Shirk of Wilayah (Leadership)
Imam al-Baqir(عليه السلام) explicitly states that the specific shirk these people deny is related to the Wilayah (divinely appointed leadership) of Imam Ali (عليه السلام). 🦁

This refers to those who, after the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله), rejected the rightful Imam and gave allegiance to others, thus associating others in a matter of divine authority. On Judgment Day, they will deny this was a form of shirk.

4️⃣ The 72 Deviant Sects
A lengthy hadith from the Prophet(صلى الله عليه وآله) warns that his Ummah will split into 73 groups; 72 are in Hellfire. 📜→🔥

These groups, though apparently "religious," are actually "supporting the religion of Satan." They are enemies of Allah and His believers. On that Day, they will swear, "By Allah, our Lord, we were not polytheists!"—but their own limbs will testify against them.

---

💡 Key Takeaways for Us:

· Self-Reflection: This verse is a grave warning against self-righteousness. We must constantly check our beliefs and actions against the Quran and the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt (عليهم السلام) to ensure we are not falling into hidden shirk without even realizing it.
· The Gravity of Denial: On a day when all truths are laid bare, denial is futile. Allah will seal their mouths and let their own skin, hands, and feet testify against them.
· Seek True Knowledge: Ignorance is no excuse. We are responsible for seeking the true knowledge that saves us from such a dreadful fate.
