🔴 Uthman, the Third Caliph, Was Not Quraishi and Had No Arab Lineage

▪️ Abi al-As, the great-grandfather of Caliph Uthman and son of Umayya, is reported to have been of Roman origin, not Arab. Uthman’s ancestors were Roman slaves from Sepphoris, not Arabs:

📜 "The sons of Abi al-As were foreigners from the people of Sepphoris." (Tabari, Tarikh al-Tabari, Vol. 5, p. 157)

▪️ Banu Umayyah had no Arab ancestry, as Imam Ali emphasized in Nahj al-Balagha:
"The pureborn is not like the outsider who attached himself."

▪️ Some historians, due to Uthman’s status, avoided discussing the lineage of Banu Umayyah:
📜 "If there were no other reason to avoid discussing Banu Umayyah’s lineage except for Uthman’s position, that alone would be enough justification." (Suhaili, Al-Rawd al-Unuf, Vol. 3, p. 65)

🔴 The Verse of Dhul-Qurba and Banu Umayyah?

1️⃣ In discussing the Verse of Dhul-Qurba, the criterion is Banu Hashim. If Banu Umayyah were also among the Prophet's close kin, why were they excluded from the ruling of this verse? And why did Uthman object to its exclusive application to Banu Hashim?

2️⃣ Why did Muawiyah insist multiple times, according to historical records, that Dhakwan (a Jewish adoptee of Umayya) was his biological son, while he had no hesitation in affiliating Ziyad ibn Abihi as his brother?

3️⃣ Why do the Ahl al-Bayt explicitly confirm the Jewish origins and adopted status of Walid and Uqbah, but regarding Muawiyah and Abu Sufyan, there are only implicit references rather than direct statements?

4️⃣ The reason: Muawiyah had to be presented as a Qurayshi, because according to hadiths from both Sunni and Shia sources, all caliphs after the Prophet had to be from Quraysh.

5️⃣ It has also been recorded that Abi al-As, the ancestor of Uthman, the Third Caliph, and another son of Umayya, was not an Arab but of Roman origin. Uthman’s ancestors were Roman slaves from Sepphoris, not Arabs:

🔴 Were All the Children of Abu Sufyan of Jewish Descent?

1️⃣ Abu al-As and Dhakwan (Abu Amr), the two brothers of Abu Sufyan, were explicitly mentioned as being from Sepphoris and of Roman origin.

2️⃣ If one argues that Umayya, Abu Sufyan’s grandfather, had only one wife, then how is it that among Umayya’s four sons, only Harb (Abu Sufyan’s father) remained unquestioned, while historical records state that Abu al-As and Dhakwan were not of Qurayshi descent?

3️⃣ The reason: There was a deliberate effort to present Uthman and Muawiyah as Qurayshi, because according to both Sunni and Shia hadiths, the Prophet’s successors had to be from Quraysh.

4️⃣ More importantly, Umayya (Muawiyah’s ancestor and Abu Sufyan’s grandfather) was not Arab or Qurayshi at all, but Roman—which renders these debates secondary.

🔹 The idea that Banu Umayyah were not Arabs has been discussed since the 4th century AH among Shi’a scholars. It is not a new topic.

🔴 Sufyani Has Roman Ancestry

1️⃣ Umayya, as Allameh Majlisi states, was a Roman slave who was later adopted by Shams. Through this adoption, Banu Umayyah falsely claimed kinship with the Prophet.

2️⃣ Umayya’s mother was Jewish.

3️⃣ Umayya committed adultery with a married Jewish woman, resulting in the birth of Dhakwan, whom he later claimed as his son and renamed Abu Amr.

4️⃣ Umayya had several children, including:

Dhakwan

Harb (father of Abu Sufyan)

Abi al-As (grandfather of Uthman and Marwan)

5️⃣ As a result, Abu Sufyan, Muawiyah, and Yazid were of Roman origin and not Qurayshi. As Imam Ali stated in Nahj al-Balagha, they were merely "attached" (Lasiq) to Quraysh.

6️⃣ Therefore, Sufyani, being a descendant of Muawiyah ibn Abu Sufyan, is undoubtedly of Roman descent.

🔹 This verse unveils the hypocritical mindset of those tyrants in Islamic history who rejected the right of Wilayah and instead allied with the enemies of faith to secure worldly power.
🔹 True honor and dignity lie only in holding fast to the Wilayah of Ahl al-Bayt (a); any ‘prestige’ sought through tyrants or disbelievers is a mere illusion.

✨ Mahdawi Perspective

🔸 In the era of the Rising, true divine honor will return to its rightful place.
🔸 The Qa’im of the Household of Muhammad (may Allah hasten his reappearance) will raise the banner of Allah’s honor and Alawi Wilayah, cutting every hollow tie with tyrants and unbelievers.
