Renato was once a follower of Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) and served the people of Brazil as a Christian priest.
Greetings. First of all, thank you for giving us this opportunity. Could you please introduce yourself?
“Greetings. My name is Renato. I was a Christian priest who embraced the honor of Islam. I currently reside in Sergipe, Brazil.”
Can you tell us how you came to Islam and how you were introduced to the family of the Prophet? What led you to the school of Ahl al-Bayt?
“As I mentioned, I was initially a priest, and with knowledge of the Holy Bible, I accepted Islam. Afterward, I met someone named Miubi, and through the books he introduced me to, I became familiar with the family of the Prophet. I found it fascinating to discover that the Prophet of Islam had also chosen a successor, much like the tradition of other prophets such as Moses and Jesus. The Prophet selected Imam Ali (peace be upon him) to spread Islam to the world.”
You successfully transitioned from Christianity to Islam. What was the main reason for your inclination towards the school of Ahl al-Bayt, and what were the challenges and sweetness of this path?
“As a priest, I always sought to sit and search for the truth, and through this path, I found Islam and eventually the family of the Prophet. Today, I am immensely happy to have reached the truth. Yes, I faced many hardships and persecutions, but the sweetness of reaching Islam made it worth it. As the Quran says: ‘Help from Allah and a near victory.’”
How impactful were the scholars and missionaries in your journey to Islam?
“Very much! When some missionaries came to our region, I sought to form friendships with them, and their kindness impressed me. Today, I am grateful that my friendship with Muslim brothers from Iran has continued, and I pray for an easy path of faith for all of us.”
You have met Ayatollah Ramazani, the Secretary-General of the Ahl al-Bayt World Assembly. How did you find him?
“In my opinion, Ayatollah Ramazani is a highly spiritual, god-fearing man filled with knowledge and virtue. I pray that God always protects him and hope he returns to Brazil.”
Lastly, do you have any final thoughts or suggestions?
“No, nothing in particular. I thank God for this invitation, which allowed me to strengthen my connection with my Muslim brothers from Iran. I am always concerned about the growth and spread of Islam and eagerly await the reappearance of our Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance) and the return of Prophet Jesus.”
