Ali Bernard Ngam, a journalist from Cameroon, shares his spiritual journey. Standing at the holy shrine of Imam Hussain (AS) in Karbala, he expressed his deep affection for this land—the land of prophets and where Imam Hussain (AS) raised his cry for freedom against oppression. Each visit feels like the first, filled with profound emotion.
He states that embracing the school of Ahl al-Bayt (AS) fundamentally transformed his worldview: "I have changed a lot... After becoming a Shia, I realized my perspective on the world changed. I have become a role model in my society whom others follow, and all of this is from the blessings of the school of Ahl al-Bayt."
📖 Founding the "Noor al-Hussain" Magazine
As a journalist,he channeled his conviction into action by founding an electronic magazine, "Noor al-Hussain." Despite the challenges, he perseveres in publishing it. The magazine's content is dedicated to the teachings, life, and values of Ahl al-Bayt (AS), along with important news from the Islamic world and the holy shrines of Iraq.
He highlights that while freedom of expression is respected in Cameroon and promoting the teachings of Ahl al-Bayt (AS) faces no legal obstacles, there is a shortage of written, visual, and audio media that focuses on Imam Hussain (AS) and his noble tradition—a gap his magazine strives to fill.
🤝 Peaceful Coexistence & Growing Shia Community in Cameroon
The Shia community in Cameroon,though not having a long history, is on a growth trajectory, with estimates suggesting there are now over 50,000 Shia Muslims in the country.
He emphasizes the peaceful coexistence among followers of different religions in Cameroon, marked by significant cooperation and a sense of peace for all. There are no conflicts or disputes; all religions live together in affection and love. Interestingly, ceremonies and mourning gatherings held by followers of Ahl al-Bayt in mosques and Hussainiyahs are witnessing increasing participation from people, including Christians.
