"Becoming Muslim: Overcoming Fears and Embracing Change"
🌟 In my journey of converting to Islam, I've realized that everything lost in this process is merely an obstacle between me and God.
🌐 Sharing my experience with Rahyafte (Comprehensive Platform for Missionaries and New Muslims), I, a recent Muslim convert, open up about my life and the reasons behind embracing Islam. My mother is Brazilian, and my father is American. I grew up mostly in São Paulo, Brazil, and spent some time living in the United States.
My parents aren't very religious, especially my father, who is not religious at all. My mother, on the other hand, grew up in a large Catholic family, and we would occasionally attend Catholic Church. At a certain point in my life, I believed that no religion was good and that religions were driving people apart. That perspective changed when I visited Morocco and developed a genuine interest in Islam.
A teacher invited me to attend a conference in Spain, where I had the chance to meet a religious scholar. It was there that I heard truths about Islam that I had never come across before. Over the course of those three days, I contemplated converting to Islam. I knew the truth in my heart and wholeheartedly believed in it, but there were still many mental obstacles to overcome. I feared the reactions of my family and friends. I was afraid they wouldn't understand me, and due to the stereotypes about Islam in the media, they might question my decision without having a proper understanding of Islam.
On the other hand, I was also afraid of living up to being a Muslim. When I informed my family of my decision while still in Morocco, they couldn't accept it. They thought I was going through a phase of youthful foolishness. However, my mother beautifully said, "If Islam brings you closer to God, I am happy for you!"
I believe that Islam has helped me discard negative thoughts and let go of unnecessary and unimportant things. It has allowed me to overlook the judgments and misconceptions others may have about my faith. Certainly, Islam has also improved my relationship with my family. I feel that my purpose in life is now much clearer, something I lacked before.
In the beginning, I had many fears about becoming Muslim, more than necessary. But I was wrong. Becoming Muslim doesn't change who you are; it's a natural evolution. The change comes from within the heart and is a natural progression that brings you closer to God. And everything lost in this process is just the barriers between you and God that have existed for centuries. 🌸 #NewMuslim #JourneyToIslam #OvercomingFears #EmbracingChange #ClearPurpose #IslamInspiration #FamilySupport 🤲🏽
