๐ฅ The Cry of Ultimate Regret: "If Only We Could Return!" ๐
Surah Al-An'am (The Cattle), Verse 27:
"If you could but see when they are made to stand before the Fire! They will say, 'Oh, would that we could be sent back! Then we would not deny the signs of our Lord and we would be of the believers.'" ๐คฒ
This powerful verse captures the most desperate moment of a human soul: facing the horrifying reality of the Fire and realizing, too late, the truth they spent a lifetime denying. Their only wish is for a second chance they will never get.

๐ Tafsir (Exegesis) & Deeper Meaning
The Ahl al-Bayt (ุนูููู ุงูุณูุงู ) provide profound insights into who this verse is about and the scene it describes.
1๏ธโฃ A Revelation About the Umayyads
According to Tafsir from Ali ibn Ibrahim (ุฑุญู ู ุงููู ุนููู), this verse was revealed concerning Bani Umayyah (the Umayyads). ๐ฐ
This connects the verse to those who actively fought against the true message of Islam and the leadership of the Ahl al-Bayt (ุนูููู ุงูุณูุงู ), whose denial and oppression led them to this state of utter regret.

2๏ธโฃ The Ultimate Regret of the Oppressors
Imam Ja'far as-Sadiq(ุนููู ุงูุณูุงู ) describes a breathtaking scene on the Day of Judgment that gives this verse even deeper meaning. He speaks of the true, sincere believers who, in this world, were considered the "worst of creation" by people because of their poverty and difficulties. Yet, in the eyes of Allah, they are the "best of creation." โจ
These believers will be granted the highest stations in Paradise (Al-Firdaus). When the people of the Fire don't see these believers among them, they will cry out (as mentioned in Surah Sad, 38:62): "Why do we not see men we used to count among the worst?" ๐ค
At that moment, Allah will elevate these believers so everyone can see them in their glorious state in Paradise. This sight will be the final, crushing regret (hasrah) for the people of the Fire. They will then understand their complete misjudgment and cry out the words of this verse:
"Oh, would that we could be returned [to the world] so we could be like them! They were truly the good ones, and we were the wicked ones!" ๐
Their wish to return isn't just to avoid punishment, but to have lived a life of true faith and conviction like the believers they once despised.

๐ก Key Takeaways for Us Today:
ยท The Value of True Faith: Worldly status and people's opinions mean nothing. True value is with Allah. The believers who were looked down upon will be the ones honored in the Hereafter.
ยท A Warning Against Denial: This verse is a stark warning to not deny the signs of Allah (His verses, His prophets, His appointed guides) when we are presented with them in this life. Tomorrow, regret will be useless.
ยท Check Our Priorities: We must ask ourselves: Are we striving for the acceptance of people or the pleasure of Allah? The two are often very different.
Let us strive to be among the true believers so that on that Day, we are among those who are elevated, not among those who are wishing for a return that will never come.
