“Pray for Us, and We Will Pray for You” – A Profound Connection with Imam Mahdi (A.J.)

Despite being in occultation (Ghaybah), Imam Mahdi (A.J.) is not detached from his followers. In a letter to Sheikh Mufid, he reassured the believers:

“We are not heedless of your affairs, nor do we forget you. If it were not so, calamities would have surrounded you, and your enemies would have destroyed you.” (Al-Ihtijaj, vol. 2, p. 497)

The idea of praying for each other is deeply rooted in the Qur’an and Hadith. Allah commands believers to seek means of closeness (Wasila) to Him:

“O you who believe! Fear Allah and seek a means of nearness to Him.” (Qur’an 5:35)

Imam Mahdi (A.J.) is one of the greatest means of nearness to Allah. By praying for him, we align ourselves with the divine plan and hasten his reappearance.

Moreover, the Prophet (PBUH) emphasized the power of mutual supplication:

“The supplication of a believer for his brother, in his absence, is answered. An angel stands by him and says, ‘Ameen, and for you the same.’” (Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2733)

If an angel responds to a believer’s prayer, imagine the power of the Imam of our time praying for us!

4. Practical Ways to Strengthen Our Connection with Imam Mahdi (A.J.)

To truly benefit from this mutual prayer, believers should:

✅ Pray for his reappearance (Dua Al-Ajal) and actively work toward justice and righteousness.

✅ Follow the teachings of the Ahlul Bayt (A.S.), embodying their values in daily life.

✅ Seek closeness to him by performing righteous deeds, as true companionship is through actions, not just words.

A Relationship of Love and Devotion

🔹 With recent developments in Syria—one of the most significant geographical regions tied to apocalyptic prophecies—the events surrounding the "Fitna of Sham" must not remain so ambiguous that every occurrence becomes open to interpretation. In such cases, these events lose their significance as signs of the reappearance of the Promised Savior and fail to provide guidance. Shia belief holds that the words of the Ahlul Bayt are neither pointless nor futile.

🔹 The vast body of prophetic narrations about the future aims to prepare believers, foster anticipation for the Savior’s reappearance, and help discern the complexities of the end times.

🔹 Now, we face two choices: either dismiss these narrations and continue fostering skepticism—leading to the belief that the reappearance is distant and falling into the mindset of those who delay it—or, as intended, approach them scientifically to extract their true meaning. This prevents the anticipation of the Promised Savior from turning into coldness and despair.

🔹 One core purpose of these narrations is to keep the spirit of anticipation alive and fervent. Any assertion that portrays the reappearance as "distant" contradicts the teachings of the Ahlul Bayt:
"They see it as far off, but We see it as near."

🔹 Furthermore, anyone who dismisses the proximity of the Savior’s arrival—claiming, for example, that it will occur in 200 or 300 years—risks developing "hard-heartedness," as explicitly mentioned in the hadith:
"If it were said to us that this matter would not occur for 200 or 300 years, our hearts would harden."
(Al-Kafi, Vol. 1, p. 369; Al-Ghaybah, p. 296)

🔹 However, engaging with narrations about the reappearance requires both intellectual and spiritual vigilance alongside self-purification and piety.

🔹 This vigilance ensures that "signs" are neither trivialized nor misinterpreted, while instilling in believers the conviction that the reappearance is near. Without this, we risk falling into the trap of spiritual apathy.

🔹 Perhaps this is the moment when scholars and experts should step forward to delve into and explain these narrations. Centuries of writings and discussions on this subject may be more relevant now than ever before.

▪️Over a thousand years ago, Imam al-Sadiq described what we now understand as live visual communication—a miraculous notion for the people of that era.

▪️Even just a few decades ago, such ideas would have seemed like science fiction. Yet, the Imam foretold them centuries before their realization.

▪️And even more astonishing is the Imam’s statement about the true extent of knowledge:

"Knowledge consists of twenty-seven parts. Up until today, people have only discovered two. When the Qa’im rises, he will unveil the remaining twenty-five and spread them among the people."
(Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 52, p. 336)

▪️The era of the Reappearance will mark humanity's greatest scientific achievements—compared to which, the feats of Elon Musk and others will seem like mere child's play.

Imam al-Ṣādiq (peace be upon him) said:

“Do not purchase any of the black slaves; but if it is necessary, then buy from the Nubians, for they are among those whom God mentioned in His Book:
‘And among those who said, “We are Christians,” We took their covenant, but they forgot a portion of what they were reminded of.’ (Qur’an 5:14)
Indeed, they will remember that portion, and a group of them will rise with the Qā’im (the Promised Mahdi) from among us.”

This profound narration reveals a spiritual truth about the universality of Imam al-Mahdi’s mission.
It teaches that faith is not bound by race or lineage — even those who were once distant from divine remembrance will awaken when the final Savior appears.

The people of Nubia — once known for their Christian heritage — are described as keepers of a forgotten covenant, a sacred trust that will re-emerge at the end of times. Their return to truth and their participation in the Mahdi’s uprising signify that the divine promise transcends all human divisions.

When the Imam rises, souls from every corner of the world — Arab and non-Arab, black and white, believer and seeker — will feel the same inner call of remembrance.
It is the call of a covenant made before time, and it will bring humanity back under one banner: the banner of justice, truth, and divine unity. 🌅

“O Messenger of Allah, God was witness to how they broke my pledge,
how Ṭalḥah and al-Zubayr led ʿĀʾishah to Basra under the pretense of ḥajj and ʿumrah,
and how they fought me, until twenty thousand Muslims were slain.
I endured as You commanded —
‘Be patient, as were the steadfast Messengers before you.’
Indeed, by Allah, this is the true interpretation of His saying:
‘Muhammad is but a Messenger… If he dies or is slain, will you turn back on your heels?’”

Thus, Imam ʿAlī (ع) personifies the shākirīn — the “grateful ones” — mentioned at the end of the verse, those who remain steadfast on the divine covenant despite betrayal and bloodshed.

🌅 The Ever-Living Message

• The Prophet ﷺ is the Seal of Prophets — but divine guidance does not die with him.

• To “turn back on one’s heels” is to reject divine succession and replace revelation with personal judgment.

• True gratitude (shukr) is loyalty to the divine command — unwavering adherence to the covenant of Wilāyah.

🌿 In the Light of the Awaited Imam (عج)

In the time of occultation, this verse still speaks to us:
Will we remain among the shākirīn — those who hold fast to the divine command, the covenant of Wilāyah — or will we follow the path of those who “turned back on their heels”?

Remaining loyal to the Imamate and preparing for the return of the Qāʾim al-Mahdī (عج) is the ultimate expression of gratitude and steadfastness in the face of divine tests.
