The Call to Faith and the Wilāyah of the Righteous: A Mahdist Interpretation of Āl ʿImrān, Verse 193 🔹 Verse 193 – Surah Āl ʿImrān Arabic Text: رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا سَمِعْنَا مُنَادِياً يُنَادِي لِلْإِيمَانِ أَنْ آمِنُوا بِرَبِّكُمْ فَآمَنَّا ۚ رَبَّنَا فَاغْفِرْ…
The Call to Faith and the Wilāyah of the Righteous: A Mahdist Interpretation of Āl ʿImrān, Verse 193

🔹 Verse 193 – Surah Āl ʿImrān

Translation:

“Our Lord! Indeed, we heard a caller calling to faith, saying, ‘Believe in your Lord,’ so we believed. Our Lord! Forgive us our sins, absolve us of our misdeeds, and cause us to die with the righteous.”

🕊 Exegetical and Hadith-Based Insights:

1. The Caller to Faith is the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH):
According to Imams al-Bāqir and al-Ṣādiq (peace be upon them), the “caller” in this verse refers to the Messenger of Allah, who called people to monotheism and faith.
📚 Tafsīr al-Qummī; Biḥār al-Anwār, vol. 66, p. 349

2. Call to Wilāyah as an Extension of the Call to Faith:
Imam al-Ṣādiq (a) referenced this verse in the Duʿā of Eid al-Ghadīr, affirming that the Prophet called people not only to belief in God but also to accept the Wilāyah of the Divinely appointed guardian. This implies that faith is incomplete without acceptance of Wilāyah.
📚 Tahdhīb al-Aḥkām, vol. 3, p. 144; Nūr al-Thaqalayn

3. Ghadīr Supplication and Affirmation of Ahl al-Bayt's Authority:
Imam al-Ṣādiq (a) continues in the supplication: “O Allah, keep our feet firm and cause us to die with the righteous… while affirming the authority of Your chosen ones.”
This means true believers are those who remain steadfast in Wilāyah until their death.
📚 Biḥār al-Anwār, vol. 95, p. 306

✨ Mahdist Reflections:

🔸 Who Is the Caller in the Age of Occultation?
Just as the Prophet (PBUH) was the caller to faith in his time, the Imam of our time (al-Mahdī, may Allah hasten his reappearance) is the hidden caller in the age of occultation. Knowing and affirming him is a vital part of true faith.

🔸 Responding to the Hidden Call:
The true faithful are those who answer the spiritual and intuitive call of the Imam, even if it is not overtly heard. The heart recognizes the truth of the Imam through fitrah (innate disposition).

🔸 Dying Among the Righteous Means Dying with the Ahl al-Bayt:
The prayer “cause us to die with the righteous” is a plea to die in the company of ʿAlī, Fāṭimah, Ḥasan, Ḥusayn, and their pure descendants up to the final proof (al-Ḥujjah, al-Mahdī).
📖 Refer also to: Sūrah al-Insān (76): 17–22 — describing the reward of the righteous and their companions in Paradise.

🏁 Wilāyah-Mahdawī Conclusion:

✅ “Our Lord! We heard a caller…” — This is our response to the Messenger’s call in the past, and to the veiled call of Your Proof today.
✅ True faith is incomplete without Wilāyah; and to die among the righteous is to live and die with recognition of and allegiance to the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), especially the Imam of our time.

📌 Are We One of Them?! 🔻 A Warning from the Qur’an: "O you who have believed! Do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are allies of one another. And whoever among you takes them as allies is indeed one of them..." 📖 Surah Al-Ma'idah, 5:51…
📖 The Virtue of God's Sincere Servants – Surah Al-Ma'idah, Verse 54

Allah says in the Holy Qur’an:

"O you who believe! Whoever among you turns back from his religion—Allah will bring forth a people He loves and who love Him; humble towards the believers, mighty against the disbelievers, striving in the way of Allah, and fearing not the blame of any blamer. That is the grace of Allah; He bestows it upon whom He wills. And Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing."
📍 [Surah Al-Ma’idah, 5:54]

2️⃣ True Followers of God
Imam al-Baqir (AS) described the real Shia of Ali (AS) by saying:

“The Shia of Ali are those who are humble towards believers, detached from worldly greed, and unafraid of blame. They live unknown among people; if present, they go unnoticed, and if absent, no one misses them.”
📚 Sifat al-Shia, p. 13

️⃣ A Glimpse of the Mahdi’s Companions
Some narrations indicate that this verse also refers to the companions of Imam Mahdi (AJ) — the faithful who will rise in the end times, bearing the banner of truth.
📚 Tafsir al-Qummi, vol. 1, p. 170

🔥 The Cry of Ultimate Regret: "If Only We Could Return!" 😔

Surah Al-An'am (The Cattle), Verse 27:

"If you could but see when they are made to stand before the Fire! They will say, 'Oh, would that we could be sent back! Then we would not deny the signs of our Lord and we would be of the believers.'" 🤲

This powerful verse captures the most desperate moment of a human soul: facing the horrifying reality of the Fire and realizing, too late, the truth they spent a lifetime denying. Their only wish is for a second chance they will never get.

🔍 Tafsir (Exegesis) & Deeper Meaning

The Ahl al-Bayt (عليهم السلام) provide profound insights into who this verse is about and the scene it describes.

1️⃣ A Revelation About the Umayyads
According to Tafsir from Ali ibn Ibrahim (رحمه الله عليه), this verse was revealed concerning Bani Umayyah (the Umayyads). 🏰

This connects the verse to those who actively fought against the true message of Islam and the leadership of the Ahl al-Bayt (عليهم السلام), whose denial and oppression led them to this state of utter regret.

2️⃣ The Ultimate Regret of the Oppressors
Imam Ja'far as-Sadiq(عليه السلام) describes a breathtaking scene on the Day of Judgment that gives this verse even deeper meaning. He speaks of the true, sincere believers who, in this world, were considered the "worst of creation" by people because of their poverty and difficulties. Yet, in the eyes of Allah, they are the "best of creation." ✨

These believers will be granted the highest stations in Paradise (Al-Firdaus). When the people of the Fire don't see these believers among them, they will cry out (as mentioned in Surah Sad, 38:62): "Why do we not see men we used to count among the worst?" 🤔

At that moment, Allah will elevate these believers so everyone can see them in their glorious state in Paradise. This sight will be the final, crushing regret (hasrah) for the people of the Fire. They will then understand their complete misjudgment and cry out the words of this verse:

"Oh, would that we could be returned [to the world] so we could be like them! They were truly the good ones, and we were the wicked ones!" 💔

Their wish to return isn't just to avoid punishment, but to have lived a life of true faith and conviction like the believers they once despised.

💡 Key Takeaways for Us Today:

· The Value of True Faith: Worldly status and people's opinions mean nothing. True value is with Allah. The believers who were looked down upon will be the ones honored in the Hereafter.
· A Warning Against Denial: This verse is a stark warning to not deny the signs of Allah (His verses, His prophets, His appointed guides) when we are presented with them in this life. Tomorrow, regret will be useless.
· Check Our Priorities: We must ask ourselves: Are we striving for the acceptance of people or the pleasure of Allah? The two are often very different.

Let us strive to be among the true believers so that on that Day, we are among those who are elevated, not among those who are wishing for a return that will never come.
