- Judea fell under Roman rule after centuries of Persian, Greek, Ptolemaic, and Seleucid control, followed by brief Maccabean independence.

2️⃣ Herod's Reign (37 BCE)
- Antipater (a Jewish "deceiver") and later his son Herod seized power amid revolts.

3️⃣ Great Revolt (66 CE)
- Jews rebelled against Emperor Nero. General Vespasian besieged Jerusalem.
- Rabbi Yohanan ben Zakkai escaped in a coffin (!), met Vespasian, and prophesied his rise as Emperor. In exchange, he secured safety for Yavne and its scholars.
