When this happened, the women started screaming, and upon coming out of their tents, they saw the bodies of their deceased loved ones, and as such, began to beat their faces. When the night became dark, and the armies had stopped fighting, the atmosphere of war dissipated. 'Umar b. Sa'adand his army were ecstatic due to their supposed victory, and were eagerly awaiting the rewards that they had been promised.
On the evening of 'Ashura, 'Umar b. Sa'ad sent the Imam al-Husayn's (a) head to Kufathrough Khawli al-Asbahi. He himself, and his army remained in Karbala for the night, and headed to Kufa the day after just before mid-day, after burying their own dead. Along with them, they took the children and sisters of Imam al-Husayn (a), and the other women and widows from his camp. On the afternoon of 'Ashura, 'Umar b. Sa'ad had ordered that camels without saddles should be prepared in order to mount their prisoners (i.e. the Ahl al-Bayt). It has been reported that on the night of the eleventh of Muharram, i.e. Sham-i Ghariban, the Lady Zaynab (a) did not abandon her night prayers (Salat al-Layl), however, because of the weakness that had overcome her, she prayed sitting (instead of standing).

▪️ The turmoil in the region of Sham (Greater Syria) will last so long that no solution will be found despite many efforts, and it will persist until the time of the reappearance:
▫️ “The Qa’im (AS) will not appear until the people of Sham are engulfed by a sedition from which they seek a way out but cannot find one.” [1]
▪️ Whenever it seems that the crisis in Sham and the Syrian conflict is nearing resolution, suddenly the flames of discord, like fire beneath ashes, erupt from another place:
▫️ “There will be a sedition in Sham; whenever it subsides in one area, it will flare up in another. It will not cease until a caller announces from the heavens.” [2]
▫️ “Whenever they try to resolve it from one side, it will break out from another.” [3]

✡️ Shimr ibn Dhi’l-Jawshan — The Special Envoy of the Jews
1️⃣ #Shimr_ibn_Dhil_Jawshan should be regarded as an infiltrator from the camp of #Sham (Damascus) into Kufa and a loyal agent of #Banu_Umayyah. When Shimr, along with some of his men, stormed the tents, Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) cried out:
👈 “O followers of the household of Abu Sufyan! If you do not have religion and do not fear the Day of Judgement, then at least be free men in your worldly life!”
2️⃣ Later, Shimr sought to justify all his heinous actions by claiming he was “just following orders.” Considering how he rose to power during the events of #Karbala and his savage conduct on the day of #Ashura, there is no doubt that by “following orders” he meant instructions directly issued from #Sham.
3️⃣ Another clue that further confirms Shimr’s role as Sham’s special envoy is his strategic presence at every critical turning point in Karbala — especially during moments when mercy or respect could have been shown. Shimr’s role in intensifying the tragedy of Ashura was unique and pivotal.
4️⃣ Taken together, historical accounts indicate that Shimr was a special emissary sent from Sham with a secret mission. This special role was so apparent that even the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) regarded Shimr with a distinct perspective among all the other brutes present at Karbala.
5️⃣ According to historical reports, Shimr was the only person in Kufa known to wear a ‘Taylasan’ (a specific cloak). It is recorded that when Anas ibn Malik saw a group wearing Taylasans in Basra, he immediately recalled the #Jews_of_Khaybar.
6️⃣ Beyond this, Shimr’s father’s name was #Sharahbil [which, like Shimr’s own name, appears to be a Hebrew name], and ‘Dhi’l-Jawshan’ is merely a title. Therefore, it is even possible to consider Shimr as one of the #Jewish_residents_of_Kufa.
