📖 Introduction

When we trace the origins of terrorism, history reveals that it was the Jews who laid its foundation. The term terror (from French) corresponds to fatk in Arabic, meaning a deliberate, sudden, and targeted killing. Importantly, Islam distinguishes between lawful punishment and unlawful assassination. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) and the Imams (peace be upon them) strictly avoided unjust killings.

Thus, what modern language calls “blind terrorism” never existed in Islamic teachings. Rather, terrorism is when a person is killed without warning, without legal justification, and outside the realm of justice.

⚔️ Early Examples

One of the most notorious cases often misrepresented is the killing of Ka‘b ibn al-Ashraf, a Jewish leader who openly incited war and hostility against the Prophet ﷺ. Some claim this was an act of terror, but history shows otherwise: the Prophet publicly announced Ka‘b’s crimes and issued an official command in the mosque. Ka‘b knew his fate, making his execution lawful retribution, not terrorism.

🌑 Attempts to Extinguish the Light of Prophethood

Jewish tribes, aware of the coming of the Last Prophet through their scriptures and science of physiognomy, sought to extinguish the light of prophethood even before his birth. Several assassination attempts are recorded:

1. The Assassination of Hāshim – The Prophet’s great-grandfather, buried in Gaza, Palestine. His sudden suspicious death while on a trade journey is linked to Jewish plots.

2. The Attack on ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib – Though he survived, attempts were made against his life when he was a child.

3. Plots Against ʿAbdullāh – The Prophet’s father survived multiple assassination attempts by Jews in Yathrib (Medina). Ultimately, he died young under mysterious circumstances in their territory.

Despite these efforts, the lineage of the Prophet ﷺ continued, and divine will preserved the line of prophethood.

👶 Attempts Against the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ Himself

From the very day of his birth, Jewish scholars identified the newborn as the awaited prophet who would end Jewish dominance. Alarm spread, and plots to kill him began immediately.

Childhood Protection: His grandfather ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib secretly sent him to live with the Bedouin foster mother, Ḥalīmah, far from Makkah, to protect him from assassination attempts.

The Baḥīrā Incident: During a caravan journey to Syria with his uncle Abū Ṭālib, the Christian monk Baḥīrā recognized him and warned of Jewish plots. Indeed, seven Jews reportedly came to kill him, but divine protection and his uncle’s vigilance saved him.

Abū Ṭālib then dedicated his life to protecting the young Muhammad ﷺ, even tasting his food first and guarding him at night, fully aware of the grave danger.

🌍 Conclusion

The history of terrorism is deeply tied to the actions of Jewish elites who feared the coming of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the end of their dominance. From the time of Hāshim to the youth of the Prophet, Jewish conspiracies aimed to extinguish the light of Islam. Yet, divine providence preserved the Messenger until his mission began — fulfilling the Qur’anic verse:

“Did He not find you an orphan and give you shelter?” (Qur’an 93:6)

🕎 Early Jewish Assassination Attempts Against the Prophet’s Lineage

Jewish knowledge of the coming Prophet was clear; their scriptures described his lineage, appearance, and even his family background. To prevent his birth, they tried systematic assassinations:

1️⃣ Hashim (great-grandfather of the Prophet) – While on a trade journey, he was mysteriously poisoned in Gaza. Yet, his son ‘Abd al-Muttalib had already been conceived.

2️⃣ ‘Abd al-Muttalib – Survived multiple attempts on his life by Jews in Yathrib (Medina). His very survival paved the way for the Prophet’s ancestry.

3️⃣ ‘Abdullah (father of the Prophet) – Repeatedly targeted in assassination attempts. Even Jewish women tried to marry him to “steal” the light of Prophethood, but failed. He later died in Yathrib under suspicious circumstances when Lady Āmina was already pregnant with the Prophet.

4️⃣ Direct attempt on the newborn Prophet (PBUH) – A Jewish scholar, upon seeing the child, fainted and declared:

“This is the one who will destroy Israel. His name is Ahmad.”

From that day, the Prophet was a target. His grandfather ‘Abd al-Muttalib took extraordinary measures — even sending him to Halima Sa‘diyya’s desert home for safety. Later, his uncle Abu Ṭālib continued this guardianship with unwavering loyalty.

⚔️ Jewish hostility followed the Prophet throughout his childhood, until Christian monk Baḥīra warned Abu Ṭālib that Jewish assassins were already plotting to kill the young Muhammad. Abu Ṭālib immediately returned him to Makkah, never leaving him unprotected again.

💡 Conclusion:
From Hashim to Abdullah, and finally to the Prophet himself, Jewish terrorism consistently sought to extinguish the Light of Prophethood. But divine protection ensured the birth, survival, and eventual rise of the Seal of the Prophets, Muhammad (PBUH).
