Glioblastoma (GBM) 🌟, an aggressive and fast-growing brain cancer 🧠, became smaller after dual-target CAR T-cell therapy 💉 in nearly two-thirds of patients. Several patients lived 12 months or longer 🗓️ after receiving the therapy, which is notable given the typical survival is less than a year.

Brain cancer cells can be ‘reprogrammed’ to stop them from spreading. 🧠🔬 By locking HA molecules in place so that they lose this flexibility, the researchers were able to ‘reprogramme’ glioblastoma cells so they stopped moving and were unable to invade surrounding tissue. 🛑🏥

🔬 A new "Phenotype Analyzer Chip" device can detect how deadly brain tumors respond to treatment using just a blood test, offering a non-invasive alternative to surgery for monitoring glioblastoma.

🩸 This breakthrough, developed by Dr. Richard Lobb and Dr. Zhen Zhang at AIBN, analyzes tiny particles called extracellular vesicles in blood to provide fast and accurate information about brain cancer.

🧠 The technology, a collaboration with the Mark Hughes Foundation Centre for Brain Cancer Research, shows promise not only for brain cancer but also for monitoring other neurological conditions like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

People with Traumatic Brain Injury More Likely to Die from Brain Cancer Than General Population Read Full Article #TraumaticBrainInjury #BrainCancerRisk #TBIresearch
🧠 Study finds individuals with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) are 1.75 times more likely to die from brain cancer than the general population.

💥 Those with TBI resulting from gunshot wounds showed over 14 times higher mortality risk from brain cancer. Mild but complicated TBI also carried nearly four times the risk.

📅 Research analyzed data from over 20,000 TBI patients in inpatient rehabilitation between 1987 and 2024.

Vaccine Against Brain Tumors Shows Promising Long-Term Results: 33 patients with high-grade astrocytomas, the most common form of glioma, received vaccine that trains the immune system to recognize and fight tumor cells. 66% were still alive after 8 years…
🧠 New Brain Cancer Vaccine Shows Promise in Clinical Trial
A peptide vaccine targeting a common genetic mutation in gliomas has shown remarkable results in a Phase 1 trial (NOA 16) involving 33 patients with high-grade astrocytomas.

📈 Significantly Improved Long-Term Survival
After up to eight years of follow-up, 66% of participants were still alive, with 42% showing no disease progression. This significantly exceeds previous median survival times of 2.5-5 years for aggressive tumor types.

🔬 Immune Response Linked to Better Outcomes
Patients whose immune systems responded strongly to the vaccine, activating T and B cells, had better long-term prognoses. Activated immune cells were observed migrating into tumors in patients with controlled disease.

💡 Potential for Standardized Immunotherapy
This vaccine targets a common mutation, allowing for a standardized approach unlike individual patient vaccines. Booster shots may prolong effectiveness without additional side effects.

🧠 Scientists have uncovered a mechanism gliomas use to exploit brain functions for growth.

🔬 A protein called neuroligin-3 (NLGN3) binds to CSPG4 on glioma cells, tightening the cell membrane and activating PIEZO1, a channel that signals for cell proliferation.

🐭 Glioma cells lacking PIEZO1 showed significantly less proliferation in mice, suggesting PIEZO1 is crucial for their growth.

💡 This mechanism is also present in healthy brain cells (OPCs), where it helps maintain a reserve of immature cells. Glioma cells appear to hijack this normal process.
