💡 Research authorship is crucial for careers, influencing hiring and funding, yet the process is often unclear.

🤔 My research, surveying over 3,500 scientists globally, found questionable authorship practices are common: 68% observed gift authorship (undeserved credit) and 55% observed ghost authorship (uncredited contributions).

👩‍🔬 Women researchers reported more negative experiences with authorship disagreements and felt less comfortable raising concerns, potentially exacerbating the "leaky pipeline" in academia.

🏫 Fewer than 25% of US PhD-granting universities have publicly available authorship policies, and those that do often lack guidance on conflict resolution.

🔬 A new analysis found 853 articles from the Institut Hospitalo-Universitaire Méditerranée Infection (IHU) have "substantial" ethical and legal concerns, with institute founder Didier Raoult as co-author on 758.

📢 Hundreds of papers from the IHU, praised by Donald Trump and Dr. Mehmet Oz during Covid-19, have ethical and legal issues, according to an international team of scientists. Raoult's now-retracted hydroxychloroquine study was cited thousands of times, leading to drug shortages and conspiracy theories.

🤔 The findings raise questions about the scientific judgment of past Trump administration health leaders. Dr. Anthony Fauci had warned against Raoult's research, calling it "anecdotal evidence."
