🎥11 September 2020. Venice in Movie Series.
You Came Back (Italian Title: Lasciami andare), a 2020 Italian drama thriller film directed by Stefano Mordini, based on the 2012 novel of the same name by Christopher Coake is released. It stars Stefano Accorsi, Valeria Golino, Maya Sansa and Serena Rossi and it's entirely filmed in Venice: many scenes were shot during the last Acqua Granda (high water) which devastated the city, thus raising controversies and protests by the residents. Have you seen this movie?

🌊📜In Autumn and Winter high tides threaten Venice and the #Lagoon.
This happens for ages, since Venice was founded: the first reported Acqua Granda (Flood) dates back in January 1286 and, along with it, the idea of the construction of a dam to prevent Venice from being flooded.
An early example of dam were the so called Murazzi, still today visible at the #Alberoni in Venice #Lido, built in 1744 in various places where the "Lagoon meets the Sea": the Lido, Santa Maria Del Mare, Pellestrina, Sottomarina.

Today we have the MOSE, finally working since 2021, after the last Acqua Granda of November 2019 which devasted Venice. Yesterday it was activated and definitely saved the city!!!
An interesting video of how it works here👇

📜25 January 1348
A big "terremoto" (earthquake) probably the most devastating in #VeniceHistory, hits the city and all North East #Italy.
The earthquake caused 10 consecutive days of Acqua Granda (flood) and accelerated the spread of the "Peste Nera" (Black Plague).
Venice, at the time inhabited by 100.000 people lost 3 quarters of its population that year! 😱
The 25th of January became known for centuries among Venetians as “San Paolo del terremoto” (after the Saint of the day).

From a local chronicle in those days:
“Fu così grande che scorlò tutta la città in modo tale che le campane sonavano da per loro, et caderono in terra i campanili di S. Silvestro, S. Vidal, S. Giacomo dall’Orio, S. Anzolo et la fazzada della chiesa di S. Basilio. Durò diese giorni continui e tutto il popolo stava con grandissimo spavento”.
