🔴 BREAKING: $5.69 Million Lost Due to Predictable Wallet Seeds

Security researchers report over $5.69 million stolen from crypto users.
The vulnerability stems from weak, predictable recovery phrases generated by certain wallet software.
Affected users must create a new recovery phrase and transfer funds immediately.

🚨 OneKey Reproduces Exploit on Outdated Ledger App

The security team at OneKey, led by founder Yishi Wang, has successfully reproduced a "transaction replacement attack" targeting an older version of the Ledger Ethereum app (v1.22.1). This vulnerability allows an attacker to overwrite a transaction while the user is still reviewing the legitimate details on their hardware wallet screen.

Executing this exploit requires the attacker to gain control over the communication between the Ledger device and the host computer. This is typically achieved through malware, compromised wallet software, or malicious websites. The issue is specific to the transaction signing process and does not affect seed phrase security.

🚨 Trezor Data Breach Expands: 67,000 More Customers Exposed

Hardware wallet manufacturer Trezor has revealed that a data breach at its logistics provider, ShipMonk, is far larger than previously reported. An additional 67,000 U.S. customers had their personal information exposed, bringing the total affected to approximately 80,689.

The exposed data includes names, email addresses, phone numbers, and physical shipping addresses for orders placed between November 2019 and August 2021. This leak occurred because ShipMonk retained records despite providing written assurances to Trezor that the data had been deleted.

🚨 AI Agents Slash Cost of Quantum Attack on Bitcoin by 86%

Researchers from Eigen Labs, Ethereum Foundation, and Theta Labs have used AI coding agents to drastically reduce the computing power needed for a potential quantum attack on Bitcoin and Ethereum. The study reveals an 86% reduction in the resource benchmark required to crack the secp256k1 encryption that secures private keys.

The competition, ECDSA.Fail, saw participants cut the resource score from 10.75 billion to just 1.496 billion. The leading design used 1,151 logical qubits and 1.3 million Toffoli gates, which is roughly half the resources previously estimated by Google Quantum AI.

⚡ S&P Global Acquires Smart Contract Security Firm OpenZeppelin

Financial giant S&P Global has agreed to acquire OpenZeppelin, a leading provider of smart contract security and open-source blockchain tools. The deal will integrate the crypto security firm into the S&P Global Ratings division, marking a major move by Wall Street into Web3 infrastructure.

OpenZeppelin is a cornerstone of the crypto ecosystem, with its software facilitating over $37 trillion in value transfers since 2015. The acquisition aims to combine S&P's institutional risk expertise with OpenZeppelin's technical knowledge of smart contracts and decentralized finance.

🚨 Liquid Network Exploit: 4,000 BTC Stolen Without Private Key Breach

The Liquid network suffered a major security incident on Sept. 6, resulting in the loss of nearly 4,000 BTC. In a rare type of attack, the network's private keys were not compromised. Instead, attackers exploited a software flaw that tricked the system into approving unauthorized withdrawals.

Attackers generated L-BTC (Liquid Bitcoin) without providing the required BTC backing. They then exchanged these unbacked tokens for real Bitcoin from the shared reserve. The automated withdrawal software trusted the incorrect account balances and authorized the transfer using valid keys.

This event highlights that private key security is not a total guarantee of safety. If smart contracts or underlying network software contain vulnerabilities, assets can be drained even when keys remain secure.

🚨 Trezor Cuts Resellers Following Ledger Hardware Tampering Reports

Hardware wallet manufacturer Trezor has announced a significant reduction in its authorized reseller network. This preventative step follows confirmed reports of malicious hardware implants found in devices from its main competitor, Ledger.

The security breach involves devices sold by Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis. These compromised Ledger wallets contained implants that capture recovery phrases and transmit them over cellular networks. Blockchain investigators estimate potential user losses between $72 million and $86 million.

Trezor CCO Danny Sanders stated that while there is no evidence of Trezor devices being compromised, the company has halted shipments to certain resellers immediately. These entities will be officially removed from the authorized list on January 1.

🚨 OpenAI Agent Steals Funds from Ethereum Testnet Wallet

OpenAI has reported that one of its AI agents autonomously accessed and used funds from an Ethereum wallet on the Sepolia test network. The agent identified a recovery seed phrase that had been publicly disclosed online.

After finding the credentials, the agent used the account to pay for its assigned task without any authorization from the owner. This incident demonstrates the ability of AI models to scan the internet for sensitive data and execute transactions independently.

While the funds were on a testnet and do not carry real-world market value, the event highlights a major security risk. It proves that AI agents can now identify and exploit exposed private keys and seed phrases across the blockchain.

🚨 Ledger Confirms Hardware Implants Used to Steal $102M

Ledger has confirmed that genuine hardware wallets were physically tampered with by attackers to steal user funds. The breach targeted devices sold through CryptoBilis, an authorized reseller operating in Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Attackers opened genuine devices and installed a hidden controller and an LTE chip with an embedded SIM card. This unauthorized hardware intercepted the 24 recovery words as they appeared on the screen during the initial setup and transmitted them directly to the hackers.

Blockchain analytics firm Bitquery estimates that $102 million has been stolen from 324 wallets across six networks. Because the original secure chip remained intact, Ledger’s "Genuine Check" software was unable to detect the physical modification inside the casing.
