S&P 500 Hit Record High Ahead of Holiday Break

Today, financial markets in the United States are closed in observance of Independence Day. Investor sentiment was likely buoyed by the latest rally in the S&P 500 index (US SPX 500 mini on FXOpen), which set a new all-time high yesterday, surpassing 6,280.

The bullish momentum has been driven by robust labour market data in the US. According to ForexFactory, analysts had anticipated a rise in the unemployment rate from 4.2% to 4.3%, but instead, it unexpectedly declined to 4.1%.

Can the stock market continue to climb?

Technical Analysis of the S&P 500 Chart

Analysing the 4-hour chart of the S&P 500 index (US SPX 500 mini on FXOpen) on 30 June, we observed the following:
→ An ascending channel was formed (indicated in blue);
→ A developing bullish impulse (marked with an orange line) suggested the price would move towards the upper boundary of the channel – a scenario that materialised with yesterday’s rally (as shown by arrow 1).

However, from a price action perspective, the recent downward move (arrow 2) has now gained significance. It may indicate that sellers are becoming more active around the identified resistance level.

Should the price decline towards the lower orange line, this could negate the current bullish impulse altogether, effectively reflecting a classic bearish engulfing pattern.
Given the above, there is reason to believe that bears are attempting to regain control after the S&P 500 (US SPX 500 mini on FXOpen) surged over 5% in the past 10 days. As such, a potential breakout below the orange line cannot be ruled out, with price action possibly targeting the median of the blue ascending channel.

What happens next?

The market’s trajectory will largely hinge on developments related to tariffs. Trade policy will remain in the spotlight next week, as key deadlines set by the White House approach — events that traders will be closely monitoring.

Alibaba (BABA) Shares Fall to Lowest Level in 2.5 Months

Yesterday, Alibaba (BABA) shares dropped to their lowest level since late April. The decline followed the company’s announcement of a planned bond issuance totalling approximately $1.53 billion, with a maturity date set for 2032. The funds will be used to support the development of Alibaba's cloud infrastructure and expansion of its international e-commerce business.

The market’s negative reaction may stem from concerns over rising debt levels and the potential return on these investments.

Technical Analysis of Alibaba (BABA) Share Price

When analysing the price movements of BABA shares in 2025, two key trading ranges stand out:
→ $126–145: This range originates from the long bullish candle on 20 February, following the release of a strong quarterly report;
→ $96–103: This zone was established in late April, as supply and demand stabilised around the psychologically significant $100 level.

The upper range has since acted as a resistance zone, with the price reversing from it in mid-May. The lower range has served as a support area, particularly in early April when the stock came under pressure after tariff-related headlines.

The current price action is notable in that Alibaba shares have:
→ Broken through the June support level at approximately $111.92;
→ Formed a bearish A-B-C structure, marked by lower highs and lower lows.

Using Fibonacci extension analysis, we can reasonably assume:
→ The $111.92 level is now likely to act as resistance;
→ The next potential target for the ongoing downtrend (leg C→D) lies at the 1 Fibonacci level ($100.55) — aligning closely with the previously identified support zone.

Nasdaq 100: Bearish Signals Near the All-Time High

As the 4-hour chart of the Nasdaq 100 (US Tech 100 mini on FXOpen) shows, the index reached a new all-time high last week. However, the price action suggests that the current pace of growth may not last.

Last week’s strong labour market data triggered a significant bullish impulse. However, the upward momentum has been entirely retraced (as indicated by the arrows).

The tax cut bill signed on Friday, 4 July, by Trump — which is expected to lead to a significant increase in US government debt — contributed to a modest bullish gap at today’s market open. Yet, as trading progressed during the Asian session, the index declined.

This suggests that fundamental news, which could have served as bullish catalysts, are failing to generate sustainable upward movement — a bearish sign.

Further grounds for doubt regarding the index's continued growth are provided by technical analysis of the Nasdaq 100 (US Tech 100 mini on FXOpen) chart, specifically:
→ a bearish divergence on the RSI indicator;
→ price proximity to the upper boundary of the ascending channel, which is considered resistance.

It is reasonable to suggest that the market may be overheated and that bullish momentum is waning. Consequently, a correction may be forming — potentially involving a test of the 22,100 level. This level acted as resistance from late 2024 until it was broken by strong bullish momentum in late June.

EUR/USD Analysis: US Dollar Strengthens at the Start of the Week

On 2 July, on the EUR/USD chart, we noted that the rally—during which the pair had gained more than 6% since mid-May—was under threat, citing several technical signals, including:
→ proximity of the price to the upper boundary of the ascending channel;
→ overbought conditions on the RSI indicator;
→ nearby resistance from the Fibonacci Extension levels, around 1.18500.

Trading at the start of the week points to renewed US dollar strength. This became particularly evident with the opening of the European session, which triggered a decline in EUR/USD to the 1.17500 area.

It is reasonable to assume that the dollar’s strength against the euro is linked to early-week positioning by traders, who are anticipating news regarding US trade agreements.

According to Reuters, the United States is close to finalising several trade deals in the coming days and is expected to notify 12 other countries today about higher tariffs.

EUR/USD Technical Chart Analysis

The ascending channel established last week remains in play, with the following developments:
→ a dashed midline within the upper half of the channel has been breached by bearish pressure (as indicated by the arrow);
→ a series of lower highs in recent sessions suggests the formation of a downward trajectory, within which the price could move towards the channel median—or potentially test its lower boundary.

P.S. In the longer term, analysts at Morgan Stanley maintain a bullish outlook, forecasting that EUR/USD could rise to 1.2700 by the end of 2027.

Market Insights: RBA Cut in Focus, UK GDP Weakens, Canada Jobs, FOMC Clues, Tariff Deadline

In this video, we’ll explore the key economic events, market trends, and corporate news shaping the financial landscape. Get ready for expert insights into forex, commodities, and stocks to help you navigate the week ahead. Let’s dive in!

In this episode, we discuss:

🔸RBA Interest Rate Decision
The Reserve Bank of Australia will decide on its cash rate on 8 July, with markets expecting a 25 basis point cut amid easing inflation and weak growth. Still, the RBA may act cautiously due to a tight labour market and global risks. Will the RBA cut rates to support growth or hold back due to labour market and global concerns?

🔸UK GDP Growth Rate
UK GDP grew 0.7% in Q1, led by housing, manufacturing, and exports, but April saw a 0.3% contraction amid tax and tariff worries. Forecasts are mixed, with trade tensions and fiscal limits as key risks. Will the new GDP data show continued resilience or deeper weakness?

🔸Unemployment Rate in Canada
Canada’s jobless rate climbed to 7.0% in May as hiring slowed, partly due to US tariffs. With more weakness expected, the data on 11 July could spark CAD volatility ahead of the Bank of Canada’s rate decision.

🔸FOMC Minutes
With the next Fed meeting weeks away, this week’s release could offer early insight into the rate trajectory. Any shift in tone may move the dollar and risk assets.

🔸Tariff Deadline
On 9 July, the pause on sweeping US tariffs expires. If deals aren’t reached, new levies could snap back — pressuring trade, sentiment, and volatility.

Don’t miss out—gain insights to stay ahead in your trading journey.

Australian Dollar Strengthens Following RBA Decision

Today, the AUD/USD pair experienced a spike in volatility. According to ForexFactory, analysts had forecast that the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) would cut interest rates from 3.85% to 3.60%. However, the market was caught off guard as the central bank opted to keep rates unchanged.

The RBA stated the following:
→ It remains cautious in its inflation outlook and awaits further evidence confirming that inflation is on track to return to the 2.5% target.
→ The decision to hold the rate was made by a vote of six to three — a rare instance of a split opinion among committee members.

The initial market reaction to the RBA’s unexpected move was a sharp appreciation of the Australian dollar. However, this was followed by a quick pullback in the minutes that followed (as indicated by the arrows).

Technical Analysis of the AUD/USD Chart

Since early July, price action in AUD/USD has been forming a descending channel (marked in red). In this context:
→ Today’s sharp rally and subsequent retracement underscored the significance of the upper boundary of the channel;
→ The pair tested a previously broken ascending trendline (the lower line of the blue channel);
→ Although the price briefly rose above the 0.65450 level, this area may now act as resistance going forward.

There is a possibility that, as forex trading unfolds throughout the day, AUD/USD could retreat towards the median line of the descending channel. Such a move could be interpreted as follows:
→ The initial reaction to the RBA decision may have been premature;
→ Selling pressure persists, which might trigger a move towards the support zone near 0.64850.

Looking ahead, the trajectory of AUD/USD in July 2025 will be largely influenced by developments surrounding a potential trade agreement between the United States and other countries, including Australia.

Tesla (TSLA) Leads Declines in the Equity Market

Yesterday, President Trump announced that letters had been sent to the United States’ trading partners regarding the imposition of new tariffs — for instance, a 25% tariff on goods from Japan and South Korea. This marks a return to “trade diplomacy” under the America First strategy. The tariffs are scheduled to take effect on 1 August, though the date remains subject to revision.

As we highlighted yesterday, bearish signals had begun to emerge in the US equity market. In response to the fresh wave of tariff-related headlines, the major indices moved lower. Leading the decline — and posting the worst performance among S&P 500 constituents — were shares of Tesla (TSLA). The sell-off followed news of a new initiative by Elon Musk, who now appears serious about launching a political “America Party” to challenge both the Republicans and Democrats.

Trump criticised his former ally’s move on his Truth Social platform, and investors are increasingly concerned about the potential impact on Tesla’s business. Tesla shares (TSLA) fell by more than 6.5% yesterday, accompanied by a broad bearish gap.

Technical Analysis of Tesla (TSLA) Stock Chart

On 2 July, our technical outlook for TSLA anticipated the formation of a broad contracting triangle in the near term. Yesterday’s price action appears to confirm this scenario:
→ The sharp move highlighted the lower boundary of the triangle (marked in red);
→ The $317 level — where the previously rising channel (marked in blue) was broken — acted as resistance.

It is worth noting that during yesterday’s session, TSLA did not fall further following the gap down. In other words, the bears were unable to extend the sell-off, suggesting that the stock may attempt a recovery towards the $317 level. This area could potentially act as a central axis within the developing triangle pattern.

EUR/JPY Hits 12-Month High

As the chart indicates, the EUR/JPY pair has risen above ¥172 per euro — a level last seen in July 2024.

Since early June, the exchange rate has increased by approximately 5.6%. This upward movement is driven by a combination of factors, including:
→ Divergence in central bank policy: The European Central Bank’s key interest rate remains significantly higher than that of the Bank of Japan, making the euro more attractive in terms of yield compared to the yen.
→ US trade tariffs on Japan: The potential imposition of 25% tariffs by the United States on Japanese goods poses a threat to Japan’s export-driven economy, placing downward pressure on the national currency.
→ Eurozone expansion and consolidation: News of Bulgaria’s potential accession to the euro area is strengthening investor confidence in the single currency.
→ Weakness in the US dollar: As the US Dollar Index fell to its lowest level since early 2022 this July, demand for the euro has grown, positioning it as a key alternative reserve currency.

Can the rally continue?

Technical Analysis of EUR/JPY

For several months, the pair traded within a range of approximately ¥156–165 per euro, but has recently broken above the upper boundary of this channel. Based on technical analysis, the width of the previous range implies a potential price target in the region of ¥174 per euro.

It is noteworthy that the rally gained momentum (as indicated by the arrow) following the breakout above the psychological threshold of 170, a sign of bullish market dominance. At the same time, the RSI has surged to a multi-month high, signalling moderate overbought conditions.

Under these circumstances, the market may be vulnerable to a short-term correction, potentially:
→ Towards the lower boundary of the ascending channel (shown in orange);
→ To retest the psychological support around ¥170.

That said, a reversal of the prevailing trend would likely require a significant shift in the fundamental backdrop — for example, progress towards a trade agreement between Japan and the United States.

Intel (INTC) Share Price Hits 3-Month High Without Clear Catalyst

Intel Corporation (INTC) stocks rose by over 7% yesterday, making them one of the top performers in the S&P 500 index (US SPX 500 mini on FXOpen). As a result, the stock price reached its highest level in three months.

What’s notable is the apparent lack of clear drivers behind the rally. According to Barron’s, the increase in INTC shares could have been triggered by a rating upgrade from Wall Street analysts or a corporate announcement – yet no such developments have occurred. "Nothing new or fundamental," says Mizuho managing director and technology specialist Jordan Klein.

At the same time, from a technical analysis perspective, the INTC price chart is showing significant developments. Examining these price movements may provide clues as to what’s fuelling the recent rise.

Technical analysis of INTC stocks

For many months, the share price had been confined within a downward channel. However, the psychological level of $20 acted as a strong support – repeated attempts by bears to push the price lower ultimately failed.

Bearish patterns in INTC’s chart may have led to a supply squeeze, as holders were given repeated reasons to sell (particularly against the backdrop of Nvidia’s success). Yet the bullish reversals near the $20 mark suggest that institutional interest was accumulating the stock at what was perceived to be a deeply discounted level – a characteristic sign of the Accumulation Phase in Wyckoff methodology.

It is this lack of available supply that could explain the sudden price rise in the absence of obvious news catalysts.

Since early summer, INTC shares have been making higher highs and higher lows, breaking upwards through the descending channel and beginning to form the early stages of a new bullish trend (highlighted in blue). Should fundamental catalysts emerge in the near term, they may serve as the spark to accelerate this nascent rally.

Nvidia Market Capitalisation Reaches $4 Trillion

Yesterday, Nvidia’s (NVDA) share price surpassed $162 for the first time in history. As a result, the company’s market capitalisation briefly exceeded $4 trillion during intraday trading (according to CNBC), making Nvidia the first publicly listed company to reach this milestone.

The rise in NVDA’s share price is being driven by both bullish sentiment across the broader equity market—which appears optimistic ahead of the upcoming Q2 earnings season—and evidence of sustained demand for Nvidia’s products, as artificial intelligence technologies continue to gain widespread adoption.

Noteworthy developments include:
→ Nvidia may begin producing a specialised AI chip for the Chinese market this autumn, potentially circumventing current export restrictions;
→ Perplexity, a company backed by Nvidia, is launching an AI-powered browser aimed at competing with Google Chrome.

Technical Analysis of NVDA Chart

In our previous analysis of NVDA’s price action, we:
→ Drew an ascending channel;
→ Highlighted bullish conviction in overcoming the $145–150 resistance zone.

The channel remains valid, with the current price trading near its upper boundary. However, the RSI indicator is showing signs of bearish divergence, suggesting that the stock may be vulnerable to a near-term correction—potentially towards the median line of the existing upward channel.

At the same time, a major shift in the prevailing bullish trend appears unlikely. The $145–150 range may serve as a key support zone for NVDA in the foreseeable future.

Coinbase (COIN) Shares Reach All-Time High

According to the chart of Coinbase Global (COIN), the share price of the cryptocurrency exchange has reached a historical all-time high (closing price).

The bullish sentiment has been supported by the following factors:
→ Bitcoin price rally. Yesterday, we analysed the BTC/USD chart and anticipated that bulls might attempt to set a new record. Following the publication, Bitcoin made a strong upward move, breaking above the $118,000 level.
→ Passage of the GENIUS bill in the US, which establishes a regulatory framework for the use of stablecoins.
Can COIN stock continue to climb?

Technical Analysis of Coinbase (COIN) Share Price

At the end of June, our analysis of the COIN chart highlighted the following:
→ From a broader perspective, COIN’s price fluctuations over the past year had formed an ascending channel (marked in grey).
→ The ongoing intermediate rally (marked in blue) had the potential to drive the price towards the upper boundary of this grey channel.

This scenario has materialised: today, COIN shares are trading near the upper edge of the grey channel. However, several factors now warrant a bearish outlook:
→ The upper boundary of the channel may act as resistance;
→ The psychological level of $400 could also serve as resistance;
→ Shareholders may be tempted to lock in profits;
→ A potential bearish divergence on the RSI indicator.

It is possible that in the near term, COIN bulls will attempt to break through the $400 level. However, if buying momentum weakens, the conditions may favour a price correction — which would appear justified after a nearly 60% rally since early June.

US Dollar Strengthens Following Trump’s Tariff Decision

US President Donald Trump has announced his decision to impose new tariffs:
→ For Canada, tariffs are set at 35%. They are scheduled to take effect on 1 August, although negotiations may take place before this date, potentially influencing Trump’s final stance.
→ For many other countries, tariffs may be set at 15% or 20%;
→ For the European Union, the exact tariff levels have not yet been disclosed.

Overall, Trump’s latest comments have added to the uncertainty surrounding the specific tariffs to be applied to each country. The financial markets reacted as follows:
→ The US dollar strengthened against other currencies (including the Canadian dollar);
→ Equity markets saw a modest decline.

Technical Analysis of the USD/CAD Chart

As soon as the announcement of a 35% tariff on Canadian imports to the US was made public, the USD/CAD rate spiked sharply (as indicated by the arrow), reaching levels last seen at the end of June. In the hours that followed, the pair stabilised.

Taking a broader view, the chart appears to show a triangular formation, which consists of:
→ A descending resistance line (R);
→ A key support level (S) around 1.3570.

From this perspective, it is worth noting that the bulls’ attempt to break above the resistance line amid the 35% tariff news did not succeed, indicating strong selling pressure.

At the same time, the price action of USD/CAD in early July allows us to identify a local support level (marked by the blue line). This suggests that, for now, the pair is consolidating within a formation bounded by the blue support line and resistance line R.

However, how long this consolidation will last, and which direction the breakout will take, will most likely depend on the next round of news regarding US–Canada trade negotiations.

DAX Stock Index Declines Amid Trump Tariff Threat

The German stock index DAX 40 (Germany 40 mini at FXOpen) is showing bearish momentum at the start of the week. This may be driven by a combination of factors, the most significant of which is the threat of tariffs on Europe from the United States.

According to Reuters, US President Donald Trump has announced a 30% tariff on most goods from the EU, set to come into effect next month. However, the decision is not yet final. Analysts caution against premature panic, suggesting that negotiations could still result in a trade agreement — nonetheless, the chart reflects a sense of unease among investors.

Technical Analysis of the DAX 40 Chart (Germany 40 mini at FXOpen)

The price surge in July above the previous all-time high near the 24,500 level appears to be a false bullish breakout — a sign of market weakness.

Buyers may hope that the market will find support at the former resistance line (marked in red), drawn through the local highs of June.

However, if news surrounding the US–EU negotiations turns negative, the DAX 40 index could fall towards the 23,650–23,750 support area, which is reinforced by the lower boundary of the medium-term ascending channel.

Market Insights with Gary Thomson: Inflation Rate in Canada, US, and UK, US PPI, Earnings Reports

In this video, we’ll explore the key economic events, market trends, and corporate news shaping the financial landscape. Get ready for expert insights into forex, commodities, and stocks to help you navigate the week ahead. Let’s dive in!

In this episode of Market Insights, Gary Thomson unpacks the strategic implications of the week’s most critical events driving global markets.

👉 Key topics covered in this episode:

🔸 Inflation Rate in Canada
Canada’s June inflation data (due 15 July) follows May’s steady 1.7% reading. Core inflation eased but stayed sticky. Last month, this supported the CAD. Will fresh data again lift the Canadian dollar?

🔸 US Inflation Rate
US inflation data is due 15 July. In May, CPI was 2.4% and core inflation stayed at 2.8%, both below forecasts but still above target. Cooling prices fueled bets on a Fed rate cut in September, pressuring the dollar. Will softer inflation data reinforce expectations for a September cut and weigh further on the USD?

🔸 UK Inflation Rate
UK June inflation data is due 16 July. May CPI eased to 3.4%, but core inflation was sticky. Markets expect BoE to cut the rate this year, possibly from August. Will core inflation stay high enough to keep the pound supported again?

🔸 US Producer Price Index
US PPI data arrives 16 July. May saw a modest 0.1% monthly rise and 2.6% annual increase, hinting at mild wholesale inflation. Could June’s PPI surprise and shift expectations for a September Fed rate cut?

🔸 Corporate Earnings Statements
Big US financial institutions — JPMorgan, Wells Fargo, and BlackRock — report Q2 earnings on 15 July, likely fueling market volatility amid trade policy uncertainty. Will these earnings help steady sentiment or trigger more turbulence?

GBP/USD Rate Falls to Key Support Level

As of today, the GBP/USD chart indicates that the British pound has declined by more than 2% against the US dollar since the beginning of July. Notably, the pace of the decline accelerated on Friday and continued into Monday.

According to Reuters, the pound is under pressure due to market concerns over a potential economic slowdown amid an escalating trade war. Last week’s data confirmed a contraction in UK GDP, which could have far-reaching implications. In this context, criticism of the UK government’s failure to reduce public spending is becoming more pronounced.

What’s next for GBP/USD?

Technical Analysis of the GBP/USD Chart

From a bullish perspective, it is worth noting that the pair has fallen to a significant support level around 1.3425. This level previously acted as resistance in the spring, but after a breakout, it has now turned into support (as indicated by arrows on the chart). Additionally, the RSI indicator shows strong oversold conditions, which suggests a potential short-term rebound.

From a bearish standpoint, it is concerning that the sharp rally from point A to point B has been entirely erased by the July decline. This indicates that despite significant gains by the bulls, they failed to hold them—casting doubt on GBP/USD's ability to sustain growth in the medium term.

Ongoing pressure may lead to an attempt by bears to push GBP/USD below the June low at point A. However, it is also possible that bearish momentum will weaken thereafter, potentially leading to a recovery within the developing downward channel (marked in red).

Today at 15:30 GMT+3, the US inflation report (Consumer Price Index, or CPI) is scheduled for release. According to ForexFactory, analysts expect the inflation rate to rise from 2.4% to 2.6%.

The actual figures will provide market participants with grounds to debate not only the likelihood of a Federal Reserve rate cut, but also the evolving tensions between Donald Trump and Jerome Powell.

Should the report deliver any surprises, it will almost certainly trigger heightened volatility across the equity markets. For now, however, investors are seemingly optimistic about the upcoming fundamental data — especially given the commencement of Q2 earnings season, which lends additional weight to today’s macroeconomic indicators.

Technical Analysis of the S&P 500 Chart

The S&P 500 chart (US SPX 500 mini on FXOpen) shows the index fluctuating within a range defined by support at 6,222 and resistance at 6,290.

The upward impulses (as indicated by arrows) suggest that:
→ current market optimism, combined with the CPI release, may lead to a bullish breakout above resistance and the establishment of a new all-time high;
→ in a broader context, such a breakout could be interpreted as a continuation of the rally that began in April, following a period of consolidation between the aforementioned levels.

Nvidia (NVDA) Share Price Surges Above $170

Yesterday, Nvidia’s (NVDA) share price rose by more than 4%, with the following developments:
→ It surpassed the psychological level of $170 per share;
→ Reached another all-time high;
→ Gained more than 9% since the beginning of the month.

The bullish sentiment is driven by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s visit to China shortly after meeting with US President Trump. At the same time:
→ US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick stated that the planned resumption of sales of Nvidia H20 AI chips in China is part of the US negotiations on rare earth metals.
→ The head of Nvidia stated that he was assured licences would be granted very quickly, and that a large number of orders for H20 chip deliveries had already been received from Chinese companies.

Market participants are viewing the situation with strong optimism, and analysts are raising their valuations for NVDA shares:
→ Morningstar analysts raised their fair value estimate for Nvidia shares from $140 to $170.
→ Oppenheimer analysts increased their target price from $170 to $200.

Technical Analysis of the NVDA Chart

The price trajectory of NVDA shares fully reflects the exceptionally strong demand:
→ The price is moving within an ascending channel with a steep growth angle;
→ Since early May, the RSI indicator on the 4-hour chart has not fallen below the 50 level;
→ Yesterday’s trading session opened with a large bullish gap.

The chart also shows the formation of a stable bullish market structure (shown with a purple broken line), expressed through a sequence of higher highs and higher lows.

Given the above, it is difficult to imagine what might cause a sharp shift from positive to negative sentiment. If a correction begins (for example, with a test of the $160 level), traders should watch for signs of its completion — this could present an opportunity to join the emerging rally.

EUR/USD Analysis: US Dollar Strengthens Following Inflation Report

Yesterday, the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report was released, showing an increase in consumer prices. According to Forex Factory, annual CPI rose from 2.4% to 2.7%, exceeding analysts' expectations of a 2.6% rise.

As reported by Reuters, the data supports the stance of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, who has repeatedly stated that the anticipated inflationary pressure—driven in part by tariffs—is a reason to refrain from further interest rate cuts.

However, President Donald Trump interpreted the data differently. On his Truth Social platform, he posted that consumer prices remain low and called for an immediate rate cut.

The market responded with a stronger US dollar—indicating that participants believe interest rates are likely to remain at current levels in the near term. Notably, the EUR/USD exchange rate fell to the 1.1600 level for the first time since late June (as indicated by the arrow).

Technical Analysis of the EUR/USD Chart

Analysing the EUR/USD chart as of 7 July, we identified:
→ A long-term ascending channel
→ A potential downward trajectory (marked by red lines)

Since then, the pair has followed the outlined path and declined by more than 1%.

It is worth noting that today, the EUR/USD price is near the lower boundary of a key trend channel, which may offer significant support — traders may look for a technical rebound from this level.

Additionally, attention should be paid to the upcoming release of the US Producer Price Index (PPI) at 15:30 GMT+3. These figures carry particular weight in light of potential renewed inflationary pressures. This and other upcoming data may prove decisive for the near-term direction of EUR/USD.

XAU/USD Chart Analysis: Volatility at a Yearly Low

The daily chart of XAU/USD shows that the Average Directional Index (ADX) has reached its lowest level since the beginning of 2025, indicating a significant decline in gold price volatility.

Yesterday’s release of the US Producer Price Index (PPI) initially triggered a sharp spike in gold prices, but the gains were short-lived, with the price quickly reverting to previous levels. This price action aligns with a broader market narrative of equilibrium—where supply and demand are in relative balance, and the market appears to be efficiently pricing in key influencing factors, including geopolitical tensions and tariff-related developments.

However, this fragile balance may soon be disrupted.

Technical Analysis of XAU/USD

From a broader technical perspective, gold remains within a long-term ascending channel (highlighted in blue) in 2025. Key observations include:
→ Attempts to rebound from the lower boundary of the channel (marked with arrows) lack conviction. Bulls are not capitalising on these opportunities to reignite the uptrend, suggesting a potential exhaustion of buying interest.
→ A trendline drawn across the major highs of 2025 has proven to be a strong resistance level. All recent breakout attempts have failed at this barrier.

As a result, the XAU/USD chart is showing signs of forming a large-scale triangle pattern, with its axis centred around the $3,333 level. If bulls continue to falter in extending the multi-month rally, it could encourage bears to challenge the lower boundary of the ascending channel, increasing the risk of a downside breakout.

How Earnings Reporting Could Impact Netflix (NFLX) Share Price

Earnings season is gaining momentum. Today, after the close of the main trading session, Netflix (NFLX) is set to release its quarterly financial results.
Analysts are optimistic, forecasting earnings per share (EPS) of $7.08, up from $4.88 a year earlier, and revenue growth to $11.1 billion.

The upbeat sentiment is driven by:
→ the fact that Netflix’s business model is relatively resilient to tariff-related pressures;
→ the company’s success in curbing password sharing and promoting a more affordable ad-supported subscription tier.

Netflix has reported revenue growth for six consecutive quarters, outperforming competitors such as Disney, Amazon, and Apple. Its market share has climbed to 8.3%, with YouTube remaining its only serious rival—YouTube's share increased from 9.9% a year ago to 12.8% in June, according to Nielsen. If current trends hold, this reporting quarter could mark another strong performance for Netflix.

However, is the outlook truly that bullish?

Technical analysis of NFLX stock chart

The NFLX stock price is currently moving within an ascending channel (marked in blue), and it is now testing the lower boundary of this formation. Of concern is the recent pronounced bearish movement (B), which has dragged the stock from the channel’s upper boundary to its lower edge—erasing the bullish momentum (A) that followed the breakout above the $1,250 resistance level.

What’s next?
→ On the one hand, bulls may attempt to resume the upward trend within the channel.
→ On the other hand, bears could build on their recent momentum (highlighted in red) and break the ascending trend that has been in place since May.

It appears the fate of the current uptrend hinges on the market’s reaction to today’s earnings release.
