Nvidia (NVDA) Shares Fall to a Year-to-Date Low

As the Nvidia (NVDA) share price chart shows, the stock fell below $177 during yesterday’s session, marking its lowest level since the start of 2026.

Negative market sentiment is largely driven by uncertainty surrounding supplies to China. According to the Financial Times, Nvidia’s sales of H200 chips to China are still awaiting final approval from US authorities.

Yesterday’s statement from AMD, noting that the scale of its own shipments to China remains uncertain, reinforced these concerns and added further pressure to Nvidia shares. Previously, NVDA had been supported by expectations that deliveries of H200 chips to Chinese partners would begin in early 2026.

In addition, some media reports suggest that the stock is facing extra pressure from news of delayed investment in OpenAI, which is reportedly exploring alternative suppliers.

Technical Analysis of the Nvidia (NVDA) Chart

On 23 December, when analysing NVDA price action, we:
→ reaffirmed the long-term ascending channel, which remains intact;
→ suggested that bulls might attempt to break out of the corrective pattern (shown in red) in order to reach the channel median.

As expected (indicated by the black arrow), the price reached this target. However, January’s price behaviour offers little evidence that the uptrend has resumed with renewed strength.

Moreover, the red arrows highlight several bearish signals:
→ the median acted as clear resistance;
→ the 30 January peak (the highest level since the start of the year) formed with a long upper shadow, resulting in a false break of the previous high — a classic “bull trap”.

While bearish momentum appears to be in control, it is worth noting that:
→ the break below the 20 January low could also prove to be false;
→ the lower boundary of the channel, which has acted as key support for many months, is nearby.

Taking all of this into account, it is reasonable to assume that NVDA may find a period of consolidation in the lower quarter of the channel. A potential catalyst for the next major move could be the company’s earnings release scheduled for 25 February.

Coinbase (COIN) shares plunged alongside Bitcoin

While the leading cryptocurrency was trading above $125k in October 2025, it fell to around $60k yesterday. The decline accelerated sharply — a pattern typical of panic-driven markets where excessive leverage is widely used. According to Coinglass, roughly $2bn worth of long positions were liquidated across crypto exchanges over the past 24 hours.
Bitcoin’s drop of more than 50% over five months has had a direct impact on Coinbase (COIN) shares, which slid below $150 for the first time since April 2025.

Technical analysis of COIN shares

Recall that on 16 January, when analysing the Coinbase (COIN) chart, we:
→ highlighted bearish signals, including a bull trap at peak B;
→ outlined a descending red price channel;
→ suggested that despite COIN trading near a key support area (marked in blue), a strong bullish reversal was unlikely.

Since then:
→ the narrow candle bodies between 20 and 28 January showed that buyers attempted to defend the highlighted support zone, but without success;
→ on 29 January, price broke bearishly below the long-term ascending channel (shown in black), after which COIN continued to fall without finding support. As a result, 13 consecutive bearish daily candles formed.

That said, the extreme fear currently dominating the market is creating conditions for a technical rebound:
→ the RSI indicator has fallen to its lowest level since COIN began trading on the Nasdaq, encouraging profit-taking on short positions;
→ price is hovering near the lower boundary of the descending channel, which has now doubled in width;
→ price is also close to the $145 level, which acted as support in 2024–2025. A false bearish break below this area cannot be ruled out, potentially triggering a psychological shift and altering the balance between supply and demand.

It is reasonable to assume that the sharp collapse in COIN’s share price could attract large-scale investors who may view it as undervalued from a long-term perspective.
Sentiment could also improve following the release of the quarterly earnings report, scheduled for 12 February, as well as the exchange’s strategic plans for 2026.

GBP/USD Declines After Bank of England Decision

Yesterday’s decision by the Bank of England came as a surprise to forex traders. While the Official Bank Rate was left unchanged at 3.75%, markets were caught off guard by the notably dovish signals regarding future policy.

According to media reports, four out of nine Monetary Policy Committee members voted for an immediate rate cut. This has brought forward expectations of easing by the Bank of England, making the pound less attractive to hold and triggering its weakness yesterday.

Technical Analysis of GBP/USD

Price action in GBP/USD has been forming an upward trend (outlined by a channel) since November last year. However, yesterday’s move has put this channel at risk of a downside break.

It is worth noting that the market had only recently been in a very strong bullish phase. GBP/USD was advancing along the blue support line and even pushed above the upper boundary of the ascending channel.

Sentiment then shifted abruptly. Bears stepped in aggressively, driving the pair lower and breaking through several technical levels in sequence:
→ the blue trendline;
→ the upper boundary of the channel;
→ the channel median, reinforced by the 1.3640 level.

As a result, the price fell towards the lower boundary of the channel, strengthened by the 1.3530 level, which had acted as resistance in late December and early January.

Almost all of the bullish gains made in late January have now been erased. It cannot be ruled out that today’s rebound in GBP/USD is merely a technical recovery — a pause that allows bears to regroup before attempting a break below the lower boundary of the ascending channel, potentially steering the market into a downward trajectory (shown in red).

MicroStrategy (MSTR) Shares Rebound After a Dramatic Sell-Off

Shares of Strategy Incorporated (MSTR) suffered a severe collapse, falling by more than 75% from their July 2025 highs to last Thursday’s low. The main trigger was concern over the cryptocurrency market, as the company holds more than 700,000 coins on its balance sheet, with an average purchase price of around $76,000 per coin.

However, trading opened on Friday with a bullish gap, and MSTR surged by more than 20% during the session. Market sentiment shifted sharply due to two key factors:
→ Quarterly earnings release. Although earnings per share missed expectations, investors were reassured by statements from founder Michael Saylor and CEO Phong Le, who stressed that the decline in the price of the leading cryptocurrency does not threaten the company’s financial stability. Management confirmed that, despite unrealised losses, the core business generates sufficient cash flow to service debt, and the accumulation strategy remains unchanged.
→ Recovery in cryptocurrency prices. After forming a low on Thursday, the BTC/USD rate rebounded, finding support near the psychological $60,000 level.

Back in early December, we noted that:
→ signs of demand were emerging on the chart, giving bulls hope for a recovery;
→ much would depend on the direction of BTC/USD.

Since then, MSTR shares initially stabilised, finding support around $157, but the downtrend later resumed, driven by:
→ renewed weakness in the cryptocurrency market;
→ resistance at the median of the descending channel, as shown by the arrows. A breakout attempt in mid-January failed, allowing bears to regain control.

The last two candles on the chart form a bullish engulfing pattern, reinforced by exceptionally high trading volumes — a sign of “smart money” activity, which may view current prices as attractive.

Positive sentiment could persist this week, but the key question is whether it will be strong enough to break above the line dividing the lower half of the channel into two quarters. If successful, a crucial test for the bulls would be the area around the psychological $150 level, which stands out as a major resistance zone.

Gold Price Climbs Above $5,000 At the Start of the Week

As shown by today’s XAU/USD chart, gold began the week on a bullish note: trading opened with a bullish gap above Friday’s high, lifting the price above the psychological $5,000 level.

The strengthening of gold has been driven by the following factors (according to media reports):
→ The US dollar, which is weakening ahead of key US economic data. The January employment report is due on Wednesday (it is expected to show signs of stabilisation in the labour market), followed by inflation data on Friday.
→ Political developments in Japan. The decisive victory of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has reinforced expectations of large-scale fiscal stimulus (“Sanaenomics”), which traditionally puts pressure on the yen and supports gold.
→ Demand from central banks. It has been reported that China’s central bank extended its gold purchases for the fifteenth consecutive month in January.

On 3 February, when analysing gold price fluctuations, we:
→ noted that the market was extremely oversold within the context of a long-term ascending channel;
→ suggested that a rebound from the zone of extreme oversold conditions could encounter a resistance area formed by the median of that channel and the classic Fibonacci levels (50% and 61.8%).

Indeed, on 4 February, after recovering into this area (with the formation of peak C), the market reversed lower and found support near the lower boundary of the aforementioned channel on Friday, 6 February.

Technical Analysis of the XAU/USD Chart

Price action (expanding amplitude) during the formation of low D points to aggressive demand, which may reflect the intentions of large capital.

At the same time, analysis of the market structure based on the A–B–C–D swing points suggests that, following the burst of extreme volatility at the turn of the month (highlighted by the peak in the ATR indicator), the market is searching for a new equilibrium.

It is therefore reasonable to assume that in the near term we may see a contraction in the amplitude of price fluctuations on the XAU/USD chart. It cannot be ruled out that supply and demand will find a temporary balance around the psychological $5k level.

USD/JPY Drops by More Than 1% At the Start of the Week

As the USD/JPY chart shows, the pair has been exhibiting bearish momentum since the beginning of the week. This move has been driven by a combination of factors:
→ Yen strength on political news. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi secured a decisive victory in Sunday’s snap election (8 February), winning a parliamentary majority. Although Takaichi has pledged large-scale fiscal stimulus of around ¥21 trillion, the prospect of increased money printing has not weakened the currency, as the market may (a) welcome political stability and (b) believe that the Bank of Japan will be forced to respond to inflation by raising interest rates.
→ US dollar weakness ahead of economic data releases. This reflects market sentiment ahead of labour market data due on Wednesday and the CPI report scheduled for Friday. In addition, the dollar’s status has come under pressure after Chinese regulators reportedly recommended limiting investments in US Treasuries.

On 26 January, when analysing fluctuations in the dollar–yen exchange rate, we:
→ noted that the long-term ascending channel had been broken near the 157.700 level;
→ constructed a parallel channel below and suggested that, following the sharp drop in USD/JPY (triggered by the possibility of coordinated currency intervention by the Bank of Japan and the Federal Reserve), a rebound could occur.

Indeed, since then (as indicated by the arrow):
→ on 28 January, the market formed a low slightly below the lower boundary of the parallel channel;
→ the pair subsequently rebounded towards the 157.700 level.

Technical analysis of the USD/JPY chart

The bearish tone of the current week allows us to highlight the following:
→ local support levels of the parallel channel (shown by thick blue lines) have been broken, and bulls may now have to rely on its lower boundary;
→ lower highs A–B–D have formed on the USD/JPY chart, with a bearish trend line drawn through them.

In this context, it is reasonable to assume that:
→ the sharp B→C impulse has disrupted the market’s multi-month bullish structure;
→ the C→D recovery (towards the 78.6% Fibonacci level) was an interim move within a broader bearish reversal.

The ability of the red A–B–D trend line to remain relevant over time would further support this hypothesis.

Nvidia (NVDA) Shares Rise Towards a Key Resistance Level

As the Nvidia (NVDA) share chart shows, during yesterday’s trading session the price advanced towards a key resistance area around $192.50, where notable peaks were formed in December 2025 and January 2026. The move was supported by several factors that boosted optimism:
→ Comments from company management. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that rising spending on AI is justified and reflects a long-term growth phase for the industry.
→ Goldman Sachs analyst Jim Schneider expects Nvidia’s fourth-quarter revenue to exceed forecasts and surpass $67 billion, and also anticipates strong sales and profit figures in the first quarter of the 2026 financial year.

Technical Analysis of the Nvidia (NVDA) Chart

On the morning of 4 February, when analysing NVDA price movements, we:
→ updated the long-term ascending channel, which remains intact;
→ noted the proximity of its lower boundary, which had acted as a key support level for many months;
→ suggested that NVDA’s price could stabilise in the lower quarter of the channel.

Since then:
→ between 4 and 6 February, the price moved sideways near the lower boundary of the channel, reflecting a balance between supply and demand;
→ following a false break below the December low, the share price staged a sharp rebound, signalling the dominance of buying pressure.

It is reasonable to assume that:
→ the initiative is currently on the side of the bulls, who appear determined to resume the long-term upward trend;
→ if another attempt is made to break through the aforementioned resistance level, it is likely to succeed, opening the way for NVDA shares to move towards the psychological $200 mark.

The realisation of this scenario could be supported by positive sentiment ahead of Nvidia’s earnings release on 25 February and the GTC 2025 conference in mid-March, when new product announcements may be made.

Silver Price Stabilises

As indicated by today’s ATR reading on the XAG/USD chart, trading activity has returned to the more normal levels seen prior to the third week of January, when:
→ silver entered a phase of exuberant growth towards its record high around the $120 mark;
→ this was followed by a dramatic collapse towards the $75 area.

The volatility indicator has now fallen back to customary levels, suggesting that supply and demand are gradually moving into balance.

Yesterday’s release of weaker US retail sales data could have served as a bullish catalyst for gold and silver, as signs of slowing economic activity ahead of key employment figures tend to increase demand for safe-haven assets. However, this did not occur, reinforcing the view that the market is stabilising.

On 2 February, when analysing the XAG/USD chart, we wrote:
“Even if silver attempts to turn higher under the current conditions of extreme oversold territory, it may encounter a strong resistance zone in the $87.5–95 range, where bears previously demonstrated clear dominance by breaking the long-term ascending channel.”

Indeed, the highlighted area not only halted the recovery impulse but also — after forming a head and shoulders reversal pattern — pushed silver down to a lower low.

Price action analysis allows for several important observations:
→ the V-shaped rebound below the psychological $70 level appears to reflect the liquidation of a cascade of buyers’ stop-loss orders, followed by a wave of buying that signals aggressive demand;
→ the bullish gap around $78 now appears to be acting as support.

In light of the above, it is reasonable to conclude that the XAG/USD market may continue developing a consolidation phase, fluctuating between two key zones:
→ resistance near $95;
→ support around $70.

For a long-term outlook on silver prices, see this article.

Amazon (AMZN) Shares Struggle to Find Support After Weak Report

As the chart shows, Amazon (AMZN) shares have displayed pronounced bearish momentum following the release of a weak earnings report on 5 February:
→ Revenue: $213.4 bn (forecast: $211.4 bn)
→ Earnings per share (EPS): actual $1.95, forecast $1.97

According to media reports, particular concern arose after Amazon announced plans to spend $200 bn on capital expenditure in 2026, mainly on AI, data centres, and chips. This represents an increase of roughly 60% from last year and significantly exceeds analysts’ expectations of around $146 bn.

Market participants may fear that the AI arms race (against Microsoft and Google) will be extremely costly, monetisation of these technologies could take years, and success is not guaranteed. As a result, we see two wide bearish gaps under the $232 and $220 levels, formed after the earnings release.

Technical Analysis of Amazon (AMZN)

Since June last year, the thickened trendline acted as a key support, regarded by the market as an attractive level to buy AMZN shares. That line has now been decisively broken.

Using this trendline as the median and the historical peak as the upper boundary to construct a channel, we can observe that the line dividing the channel into the lower two quarters (QL) currently serves as support.

The gap areas may act as resistance, and prevailing negative sentiment is likely to continue weighing on AMZN shares. In this scenario, bears could break not only the QL line but also the psychological $200 level, heightening concerns.

Under this bearish scenario, the share price could fall towards the lower boundary of the channel, near $188.

WTI Oil Price Climbs to a Monthly High

As the XTI/USD chart shows, the price per barrel moved above the 4 February peak yesterday, marking its highest level since the start of the month. The bullish sentiment has been driven by geopolitical uncertainty. According to media reports:
→ The Trump–Netanyahu meeting in Washington on 10–11 February failed to ease tensions. Despite Omani mediation and statements suggesting a “near compromise”, no formal agreement has yet been reached.
→ Reports of a possible deployment of additional US carrier strike groups to the Middle East have added to market nerves. Any escalation could threaten supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, which accounts for around 20% of global oil consumption.

While the fundamental backdrop remains tense and continues to support higher oil prices, the chart simultaneously points to vulnerability to a pullback.

Technical Analysis of the XTI/USD Chart

When analysing the WTI oil chart on 5 February, we:
→ used recent price swings to construct a broad ascending channel (shown in purple), noting that its lower boundary was acting as support;
→ suggested that the $65 level would become a key obstacle for bulls attempting to maintain upward momentum.

Recent price action supports this view, as:
→ if yesterday’s move above the 4 February high is treated as a bullish breakout, it appears to have failed — a potential bull trap;
→ a bearish engulfing reversal pattern has formed on the chart (indicated by the arrow).

It is noteworthy that many investment bank analysts consider current WTI prices to be overstretched, forecasting a decline towards the $57–59 range due to oversupply. However, such a scenario would likely require a reduction in geopolitical risk.

In light of the above, it is reasonable to assume that the initiative may now be shifting to the bears, who could attempt to push prices towards the lower boundary of the channel. The $64.40 level — which acted as resistance last week — now appears to offer local support.

Nikkei 225 Retreats From Record High

As the chart shows, the Nikkei 225 index (Japan 225 on FXOpen) reached a historic high near 58,500 points on Monday. Bullish sentiment was driven primarily by political developments.

According to media reports, the rally followed the decisive victory of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) under Sanae Takaichi, who has signalled aggressive fiscal stimulus measures (a package exceeding $135 bn), food tax cuts, and the continuation of an accommodative monetary policy stance.

However, today the Nikkei 225 is showing signs of a pullback. It is possible that major market participants have begun taking profits amid the wave of optimism, as Takaichi’s victory had already been largely priced in, and official confirmation of a parliamentary supermajority may have acted as a trigger to close long positions.

From a technical perspective, a retracement also appears justified.

Technical Analysis of the Nikkei 225 Chart

It is worth noting that:
→ after the RSI moved into extreme overbought territory, it formed a bearish divergence with price;
→ price action itself produced a bearish triple top pattern.

As the decline unfolds, a local trendline (shown in purple) has shifted from acting as support to functioning as resistance.

In light of the above, it is reasonable to assume that an extended pullback could drive the Nikkei 225 towards the median of the long-term ascending channel.

In the event of a deeper correction, the support zone below the 56,000 level may come into play, where a previous bullish imbalance formed characteristics of a Fair Value Gap pattern.

Nasdaq 100 May Retest This Year’s Low

As the chart of the Nasdaq 100 index (US Tech 100 mini on FXOpen) shows, bearish sentiment currently dominates the equity market. Yesterday, the technology index fell by around 2%.

Why Is the Nasdaq 100 Declining?

According to media reports, developments linked to the expansion of AI are weighing on the market:
→ Major technology firms are sharply increasing capital expenditure on infrastructure, yet there is little clarity on when these investments will begin to generate returns. For instance, Google issued bonds this week, including 100-year debt.
→ The impact of AI on traditional business models, particularly companies operating in the software sector.

Technical Analysis of the Nasdaq 100 Chart

When analysing Nasdaq 100 price action (US Tech 100 mini on FXOpen) on 2 February, we:
→ identified a resistance zone (highlighted in orange) and marked the key 25,900 resistance level;
→ noted that bears had taken the initiative and suggested they would need to maintain control around the 25,500 area — where the ascending channel had previously been broken.

Since then, bulls managed to break above this zone, but only briefly, testing the 25,900 level. As indicated by the arrow, the move was short-lived and prices soon fell back below, signalling the bulls’ inability to sustain upward momentum.

A sequence of lower highs has allowed a descending trend line (R) to be drawn. If the consolidation that began last evening reflects a temporary balance between supply and demand, a median line can be plotted, with a lower channel boundary beneath it.

Under a continued downward trend scenario, this configuration points to the potential for the Nasdaq 100 to set a fresh low for the year. Whether this outlook materialises will largely depend on US inflation data. The CPI report is due for release today at 16:30 (GMT+3). Traders should be prepared for heightened volatility.
