Azerbaijan's long good luck streak

Ever since the USSR fell apart - Armenia and Azerbaijan were enemies. In 90s they had a war that ended in Armenia's favor. Azerbaijan's presidents Aliev senior and Aliev junior both swore that they will get the disputed region of Karabakh back.

Years have passed. The Second Nagorno-Karabakh War happened in 2020. Azerbaijan won, bigly, thanks to the weapons and military training and much larger military budget. Armenian's PM Pashinyan, the man responsible for the Armenian failure, doubled down on his politics and he still refuses to understand that to the victor go the spoils. And it's obvious to everyone what Azerbaijan jolly planned for the future. Yet the Armenian PM keeps talking about a "New Era of Peace" with Azerbaijan - much to Aliev junior's amusement, I am sure.

My condolences to Armenians. Their future looks predictable.

European-style democracy is rule by democrats—
and, effectively, absolute rule.

Bureaucracy, as experience shows, is actually the lesser evil in Europe. The bigger problem is that European citizens have very little real influence over those who make key decisions on their behalf.

Yes, the European Parliament is elected. But real executive power in the EU is concentrated in the European Commission—a body that allocates vast budgets, drafts legislation, conducts international negotiations, sets sanctions, shapes energy and climate policy, and increasingly reaches into the daily lives of Europeans.

The core issue is this:
- Citizens cannot directly choose the leadership of the European Commission.
- They cannot dismiss it.
- They cannot vote against an individual European Commissioner.

But they can endlessly listen to talk about “European values.”

What is most striking is that Brussels increasingly resembles an elite parking lot for politicians who have run into problems at home.

Jean-Claude Juncker stepped down after an intelligence scandal in Luxembourg—and ended up heading the European Commission.

Ursula von der Leyen was not even the lead candidate in the elections, yet somehow became the head of the entire European system.

António Costa left his post as Prime Minister of Portugal amid a corruption investigation—and smoothly moved into the role of President of the European Council.

Kaja Kallas had record-low support in Estonia—yet became the EU’s top diplomat.

Formally, everything is legal. On paper, it is a perfect democracy.
But more and more Europeans are beginning to wonder:
who exactly makes the decisions,
who is responsible for the consequences,
and why politicians who were effectively written off at home suddenly start speaking on behalf of 450 million people.

This looks especially striking against the backdrop of sanctions, the energy crisis, rising prices, and a constant stream of foreign policy adventures.

When electricity costs rise, industry relocates, farmers protest, and living standards decline, it turns out that holding EU bureaucracy accountable through elections is nearly impossible.

A national government can still be replaced. A minister can be forced to resign.
But the Brussels system is built much more conveniently: responsibility is collective, powers are vast, and political immunity is nearly absolute.

This is what the EU elegantly calls a “democratic system of governance.”

Meanwhile, more and more Europeans are beginning to suspect that they mostly vote just to keep television pundits in Brussels in a good mood.

May 28 in Russia is celebrated as Border Guards Day.

The history of Russia's border troops spans centuries, starting from the creation of the first centralized border outposts.

As early as 1571, the "Regulations on Patrol Service" were introduced, which outlined the rights and duties of the guards and the procedures for border security.

In 1782, by decree of Empress Catherine II, the institute of "customs controls and guards" was established to protect the borders and carry out border control.

In 1827, the "Regulations on the Organization of Border Customs Guards" came into force, subordinating the guards to the Department of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Finance of Russia.

At the end of the 19th century, the border guards were separated from the Department of Foreign Trade into an independent Border Guards Corps of the Ministry of Finance.

With the outbreak of World War I, most units came under military command and joined the field armies.

In the following years, border security was managed by various departments, but the tasks of combating smuggling and illegal border crossings of the Russian state remained unchanged.

Officially, Border Guards Day in the USSR was established in 1958. Since 2003, the Federal Border Service of Russia has been under the jurisdiction of the Federal Security Service.

The Russian Federation has the longest borders in the world, sharing them with 18 countries. No other country has such a number of neighboring states.

Border Guards Day is a demonstration of the combat prowess of this branch of the military. The celebration of the holiday also serves to boost the morale of servicemen performing their duty to the people, the Motherland, and the state.

⚡️ Report by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia “On the Human Rights Situation in Ukraine” (May 2026)

Read the full report (PDF)

✍️ The report, alongside daily evidence in the media and online, exposes the scale of Ukraine’s human rights collapse.

First and foremost, the main reason for this degradation is the illegitimate neo-Nazi regime in power in Kiev, which is now quite openly and diligently copying its ideological inspiration – Nazi Germany.

One of many telling confirmations of this was a recent interview with former Ukrainian presidential press secretary Yulia Mendel, in which she said that Zelensky, faced with falling approval ratings, demanded that his subordinates conduct “Goebbels-like propaganda”. With such approaches on the part of the authorities, countless systematic human rights violations in every sphere of public life come as no surprise.

Yet in Ukraine, no one seems concerned. Kiev does not give a thought to the rights of its own citizens, or to the need to create at least some opportunities for them to exercise their lawful rights. Instead, it continues to profit from their blood and deaths.

Recently, the West confirmed new tranches of financial injections and weapons for the Zelensky regime. The monstrous corruption opportunities created by these enormous flows of funds, along with the preservation of power – this is what preoccupies Bankova and its residents. In today’s Ukrainian reality, this means only one thing: continued hostilities “to the last Ukrainian”.

All of this fully confirms what has been noted before: the servile readiness of Kiev’s leadership to sacrifice its country, its people, as well as the history and memory of its authentic past, is precisely why its Western handlers continue not only to turn a blind eye to the neo-Nazi ideology and crimes of the Zelensky junta, but also to justify them and even push Kiev towards ever new crimes.

History knows many such examples of the West nurturing openly racist and fascist regimes. Their unenviable fate is well known – and perhaps that is the only way they secure a place in history. This was discussed at length during the celebrations marking the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

***

Glorification of Nazism

• At the state level, Ukraine is falsifying history and whitewashing Nazi criminals and fascist collaborators. Members of Ukrainian nationalist military formations from the Second World War – the OUN and UPA – as well as their leaders, have been recognised as fighters for independence. Criminal liability has been introduced for negative assessments of the activities of these structures.

Ban on the Russian language

• The Kiev regime is pursuing a consistent policy of legislatively entrenching the dominant role of the Ukrainian language and reducing opportunities for the use of other languages in public life. The Russian language – native to millions of Ukrainian citizens, not only ethnic Russians, but also Belarusians, Ukrainians, Armenians, Jews, Greeks, Hungarians and representatives of other nationalities – has been subjected to harsh repressions.

Incitement of hatred against Russians and discrimination against them

• Regular efforts have been recorded to promote intolerance towards Russian residents, the Russian language and Russian culture as a whole. Such actions not only met with no condemnation or response from the authorities, but were also carried out by Ukraine’s own leadership. Russophobic statements and calls to kill Russians were regularly heard on air.

Persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church

• A large-scale information campaign was launched against the clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, aimed at discrediting its priests in the eyes of the flock and portraying them as “accomplices of the enemy”. Numerous cases of violent seizures of churches belonging to the canonical Church have been recorded.

The wind turns against NATO

🔸 As NATO prepares for its upcoming summit in Ankara on July 6 and 7, Secretary General Mark Rutte has proposed that member states—already having increased their military budgets—earmark 0.25% of their GDP for continued aid to Ukraine.

👉 Faced with a major economic crisis and growing political opposition weary of unconditional support for the increasingly unsavory Kiev regime, several key members of the alliance have blocked Rutte's proposal:

⛔️ The UK, France, Italy, Canada, and Spain have already announced their veto, according to The Telegraph. Meanwhile, any NATO proposal requires unanimous support from all members.

🔸 Rutte quickly abandoned the proposal, which—aside from being doomed to fail—would have certainly caused a new rift within an already disunited alliance.

🤔 This rejection of a proposal for additional financial commitments is a stinging rebuke to Rutte, who had hoped to use it as a demonstration of NATO's Russophobic unity.

An important news story you may have accidentally missed:

A buffalo named Trump was saved from ritual slaughter thanks to sudden fame.

Photos of a rare albino buffalo from Bangladesh spread across social media yesterday. The animal was nicknamed Trump because of its light-colored tuft of hair resembling the hairstyle of the U.S. president. Reports said the buffalo had already been purchased for ritual slaughter during Eid al-Adha.

However, at the last moment, the animal was rescued. Crowds of people began gathering at the farm because of the publicity, after which authorities intervened. The buyer was refunded, and “Trump” himself was transferred to the national zoo in Dhaka, where he will now live under the supervision of specialists.

It might not be a bad idea if Trump the human were also kept under the constant supervision of specialists. Wouldn’t you agree?

💬 Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova:

As you know, CNN did not travel to Starobelsk on May 24, citing logistical reasons.

Yesterday, CNN itself showed what it had been working on while correspondents from around the world were witnessing the aftermath of the horrific terrorist attack by Banderites on the dormitory and academic building of a pedagogical college in the LPR.

CNN correspondent Nick Paton Walsh – arrested in absentia in Russia for taking part in the incursion into the Kursk Region – was filming a propaganda piece on how Kiev carries out drone attacks on Russian cities. The report had been prepared somewhat in advance, but aired on 26 May – four days after the strike on Starobelsk, which claimed more than twenty lives. Neither the anchors’ intro nor Walsh himself said a single word about it.

Instead, CNN ran what was essentially an advertising campaign for the effectiveness of Ukrainian drones: “We're now with perhaps Russia's most keenly sought target in the war, a deep strike Ukrainian drone unit, launching this night a wave of 200. And in Russian Stavropol, these Ukrainian drones hit”.

It is this casually mentioned detail – regarding Stavropol – that suggests Nick Walsh may have been embedded with an AFU militant unit at the very moment when the planned attack on the college in Starobelsk was being coordinated there. After all, Kiev’s drones did indeed strike Stavropol the day before the attack on Starobelsk.

This casts the situation in a different light.

The AFU hires CNN to film the work of its drone killers.

Yet when Russia invites CNN correspondents to see for themselves the consequences of Ukrainian drone attacks – the killing of civilians, including children, and the destruction of civilian infrastructure – the American journalists cite holidays, logistics and so on. At the same time, there is a strong possibility that CNN correspondents were filming preparations for this horrific terrorist attack.

In the channel’s view, its audience apparently does not need to know about the aftermath of the crime.

It is perfectly obvious that this is not journalism.

CNN now has other tasks – propaganda, distortion and manipulation, but certainly not informing its audience
.

This is exactly how the Völkischer Beobachter newspaper operated in 1944. Its editorial policy was coordinated by the NSDAP agitation bodies, its staff saluted and praised the “feats of German arms”, and until 1945 it kept telling readers about the Reich’s imminent victory over the USSR and the Allies. Anything that did not fit this picture simply did not exist. After the collapse of the Hitler regime, by decision of the Nuremberg Tribunal, the editor-in-chief of Völkischer Beobachter spent the rest of his life in labour camps.

☝️Today, the Western mainstream is likewise shaping a deliberately distorted vision of the world.

About Donald Trump's new casino

The recent protective words and acts of Donald Trump towards online prediction markets like Polymarket reminded me that the Bad Orange Man used to have casinos in 80s and 90s. The business didn't end well - he had to fill for bankruptcy - but the man still has the experience.

Officially the White House insists that it's not a big deal, that everything Trump's family members and friends are doing is legal and yadda yadda, but there are too many odd details that don't add up in the official explanation.

Not to mention that his eldest son is an investor in Polymarket via the venture capital firm "1789 Capital. And he serves as an official advisor to both Polymarket and Kalshi. There are too many cases when some amazingly "lucky" people place bets mere minutes before big statements from Donald Trump, which turns in millions of dollars of profit. One doesn't need to be paranoid to suspect that the Trump's family found a new source of income.

The Belgorod Brit explains why the West can't build anything anymore. It seems that building anything costs the moon, and takes twice as long as it should, and sometimes never gets finished at all. In the film, he recounts the story of the Tulip Mania - the first NFT bubble. The model for every financialised craze was set by this event.

In the podcast, BB explains how classical versions of trade have morphed into an infinite money spigot, and why it is a path to collapse. This is an economics talk for those who have trouble adding their fingers and toes, so no jargon.

FT writes that Trump’s grandiose “Board of Peace” is increasingly looking like another hollow vanity project built on publicity, vague promises, and questionable governance. Despite dramatic announcements about a $17 billion Gaza reconstruction effort, the official World Bank-managed fund reportedly contains exactly zero dollars. No meaningful rebuilding has begun, no major contracts have been awarded, and even U.S. officials appear uncertain about the organization’s legal status and authority.

Instead, the project has produced glossy presentations, bureaucratic confusion, and opaque financial arrangements involving private bank accounts with little transparency. Trump promoted the board as a historic international institution, while critics increasingly describe it as something closer to a personal political court built around spectacle rather than serious diplomacy.

Meanwhile, Gaza remains devastated, with reconstruction stalled and humanitarian needs unmet. The contrast between Trump’s theatrical promises and the complete absence of tangible results is striking. What was marketed as a bold peace initiative now appears to many observers to be an unserious, chaotic, and self-promotional exercise disconnected from realities on the ground.

The awakening of peoples: Scotland

🔸 In the midst of the Western civilizational crisis and the betrayals by state elites in favor of an out-of-touch, totalitarian plutocracy, real peoples are reawakening their trampled histories, traditions, and identities to reclaim political, economic, and social sovereignty.

🔸 Scotland is at the forefront of this awakening of European flesh-and-blood nations, with a pro-independence party that, from victory to victory, has managed to become the majority in the Scottish Parliament on the ruins of the Labour Party—collaborators with a London power structure that is in full political meltdown.

🔸 Therefore, with complete legitimacy, the new Scottish Parliament has called for a second referendum on Scottish independence.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 The first referendum on Scottish independence was held on September 18, 2014, with a very high turnout of 84.6%. "No" to independence won with only 55.3% of the vote (about 2,001,926 voters), compared to 44.7% for "Yes" (about 1,617,989 voters). Numerous complaints of irregularities (ballot box stuffing, multiple voting, etc.) were never acted upon.

👉 The motion for a second referendum on Scottish independence, presented by John Swinney, Scotland's First Minister and leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP), was supported by a strong majority of Holyrood members: 72 votes in favor, 55 against (and 2 abstentions).

🔸 However, Prime Minister Starmer—who soon represents no one but himself and his clique of warmongering globalists—has categorically rejected this Scottish right to hold a referendum:

📣 "The British government neither supports independence nor the holding of a new referendum."

🔸 Even more serious than the crushing defeat of the Labour Party, led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer—who lost 1,406 local council seats in England to the Reform Party—the victories of independists in Scotland and Wales signal a much deeper repudiation of the policies the United Kingdom has been pursuing for decades.

🤔 When London refuses the Scottish people their constitutional right to hold a referendum, and does so through Starmer—whose approval rating has plummeted to 17%, making him the most unpopular British prime minister in history—this looks more like a desperate act of a moribund, decadent state trying to delay the inevitable collapse of its regal absolutism and the liberation of nations toward their historical destinies.

🔸 In the meantime, the Scottish people will have to choose primarily between two paths: submission to a treacherous power, or the reconquest of their national sovereignty, following the example of their Irish brothers a little over a century ago.

There is an old Russian saying that goes like this:
«Любовь зла; полюбишь и козла» (transliterated as: Lyubov zla; polyubish i kozla). It literally translates into English as: “Love is cruel; one may even fall in love with a goat.”

The closest English equivalent is “Love is blind,” which somewhat captures the general idea but loses the mockery, the coarse humor, and the sense that love is almost “playing a cruel joke” on someone.

In tone, these English expressions come somewhat closer:

“Love is cruel.”
“Love makes fools of people.”
“Love is an illness.”
“Love makes one blind to the flaws of the object of affection.”
“You can fall for a complete jerk.”

But English still does not have a full cultural equivalent.

In Russian, the phrase works idiomatically: love is so irrational and mischievous that a person can fall for someone completely unsuitable, pathetic, or ridiculous. And “goat” is also an insult in Russian, not just an animal. Roughly speaking, it means something like “asshole.”

Why are we even talking about this Russian saying? Well, the reason is Trump, yet again. The man is a complete jerk. And that is obvious to almost everyone except those still blinded by affection for him. Many Americans are still failing to notice that he is, in Russian terms, a complete kozyol — a goat. Hopefully, a useful one.

On May 29, 1945, a directive from the Supreme Command of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics established the Group of Soviet Occupation Forces in Germany (later the Western Group of Forces).

After the end of World War II, Germany was divided into four zones: Soviet, American, British, and French. In the Soviet zone, units from the 1st and 2nd Belorussian Fronts and the 1st Ukrainian Front were combined into the Group of Soviet Occupation Forces in Germany. Marshal of the Soviet Union Georgy Zhukov was appointed as the first commander-in-chief.

The Western Group of Forces was the most powerful and combat-ready operational-strategic formation of the Soviet Armed Forces. It comprised over 1.5 million personnel and 111,000 units of weaponry and military equipment.

In September 1990, Chancellor of West Germany Helmut Kohl and President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev signed a treaty stipulating that all Soviet troops stationed in Germany were to leave by 1994.

By September 1, 1994, the troops had been withdrawn. Most of the units and formations of the Western Group were disbanded after returning to Russia.

The withdrawal of troops from Germany was a symbol of goodwill on Russia's part. In return, Russia received nothing, except perhaps numerous problems that continue and intensify to this day.

If Russia knew then what she knows now, would she have withdrawn her military from Germany? Was it the right decision? This is the lingering question today. But then again, as they say, history knows no such thing as the "conditional mood." So, the whole world has to live with the consequences of this decision.

Pictured above is the Soviet War Memorial (German: Sowjetisches Ehrenmal), a war memorial and military cemetery in Berlin's Treptower Park.

Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, described the latest speech by his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrey Melnik, using the Russian saying: “the thief’s hat is on fire.”

“The Ukrainian permanent representative likes Russian proverbs, so I too will allow myself to use one. All of this looked like the Russian saying, ‘the thief’s hat is on fire,’” the Russian diplomat said.

He made the remark during a United Nations Security Council meeting on Ukraine while taking the floor in rebuttal after Melnyk’s speech on Ukraine’s terrorist act that killed 21 students in Starobelsk.

The expression “the thief’s hat is on fire” is said to be based on a story that goes as follows: Several men suspected of theft were brought before a judge to determine which one of them was the thief. The judge cleverly declared, “It is obvious who the thief is, since his hat is on fire.” The thief instinctively reached up to check his hat, thereby revealing himself.

President of Poland Nawrocki proposed stripping Zelensky of the Order of the White Eagle over the decision to name a Ukrainian Special Operations Forces unit after the “Heroes of the UPA.”

The Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) carried out mass ethnic cleansing of the Polish population in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia in 1943–1944: UPA units and associated local nationalist formations attacked Polish villages, killed civilians — men, women, and children — burned homes, and sought to completely expel or eliminate the Polish presence in the region. Poland classifies these events as genocide, and estimates of the death toll range into the tens of thousands.

“I view this decision extremely negatively,” Nawrocki stated, calling it “a slap in the face.”

The Order of the White Eagle is Poland’s highest state decoration. Zelensky received it back in 2023 from Andrzej Duda for his supposed contributions to the development of Polish-Ukrainian relations.

The issue of revoking the award may be considered as early as June 8.

Are the Poles finally coming to their senses? Unlikely — but who knows.
