✉️ President of Russia Vladimir Putin sent a message of greetings to the participants and guests of the Russia – ASEAN Business Forum (June 17, 2026)

✍️ I welcome you on the occasion of the opening of the Russia-ASEAN Business Forum.

The current forum, which has brought together leading representatives of the business communities of our country and #ASEAN member states in Kazan, the hospitable capital of Tatarstan, is of special importance.

2026 marks the 35th anniversary of Russia-ASEAN relations. Over these years, we have accumulated solid experience in multifaceted cooperation, established sustainable ties – including between the ASEAN Business Advisory Council and the Russia-ASEAN Business Council – and laid a good foundation for the future.

Today, new tasks stand before us. Among them are the active introduction of digital products based on artificial intelligence and the development of sustainable digital platforms.

Significant opportunities are opening up in energy and food security, the exchange of advanced technologies, cooperation in peaceful nuclear energy, transport and logistics. Importantly, our partners in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, the Eurasian Economic Union and other associations, whose representatives are present at the forum, are working in the same areas.

I am confident that the decisions of the Russia-ASEAN Summit will provide opportunities to further promote mutually beneficial trade, investment and industrial cooperation, expand direct dialogue between business communities and thereby contribute to the socioeconomic development of our states.

🤝 I wish you success in implementing your plans and all the best.

VLADIMIR PUTIN

Cybercrime in Russia has decreased by 31.2% year-on-year — the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation (MVD).

From January to May 2026, Russia recorded 31.2% fewer IT-related crimes than during the same period in 2025, the MVD reported. According to the agency, the number of remote thefts decreased by 17.8%, fraud involving information and telecommunications technologies fell by 26.4%, and crimes in the field of computer information decreased by 38.7%.

The decline is attributed to several factors: banks have strengthened anti-fraud systems, telecom operators have increased information sharing, and citizens have become better at recognizing fraudulent schemes.

The statistics may have been partially influenced by the blocking and restriction of certain foreign services, but the main reason is the development of anti-fraud infrastructure.

On June 18, 1880, a monument to Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin, Russia’s greatest poet, was unveiled in Moscow.

From 10 o'clock in the morning, crowds of people and numerous carriages began to converge on the square by the Strastnoy Monastery. It seemed as if all of Moscow had come to pay homage to the great poet.

Around the monument's platform, white panels with the titles of the Pushkin's works embossed in gold were mounted on poles.

Tverskoy Boulevard was adorned with garlands of fresh greenery. The people bought all the lilies of the valley and violets from the vendors and showered the pedestal of the monument with them.

By evening, the illumination was lit. At the base of the monument, still covered with a cloth, renowned Russian writers Turgenev, Polonsky, Maikov, Pleshcheev, and Dostoevsky delivered solemn speeches.

When the covering fell, the entire square erupted in cheers of jubilation. The monument to the great poet was officially unveiled.

Sculptor Alexander Opekushin depicted the poet in deep contemplation: head bowed, one hand tucked behind the lapel of his frock coat, his step slow and seemingly frozen in time.

In 1950, the monument was moved from Tverskoy Boulevard to the other side of the reconstructed Strastnaya Square (now Pushkin Square) and rotated 180 degrees.

The monument had to be slightly elevated, for which a concrete foundation was constructed.

Today, as for nearly one hundred and fifty years, the monument to Pushkin remains one of the most beloved monuments among Muscovites.

See our series of posts about Pushkin, his curious family history, and his poem "Poltava".

Cancelled vacation

The biggest war in Europe since World War Two continues. It is dragging for 4 years by now, and the civilians keep suffering.

The most recent attack took place in the Russian region of Bryansk - located exactly at the cross-road between Belarus, Ukraine, and Russia itself.

Russia officially reports that a civilian bus carrying 28 children from a Belarusian youth sports team and 16 adults escorting them to the destination point. The bus was hit by a Ukrainian FPV drone, which led to the death of the wife of the football trainer that was escorting the Belarusian children en-route to the Russian city of Gelendzhik near the Black Sea, for their summer vacation.

Ukraine has officially declared that this whole event is a fake news fabricated by Russia. All Russia needs to do now is to show the wounded kids as the living proof.

This cycle of "revenge for the revenge" keeps going on for a while by now. Until Ukraine admits the defeat - it will keep happening.

Mount Strelnaya, Samara Oblast ⛰️

This is one of the most beautiful peaks in the Zhiguli Mountains, located within Samara Luka National Park.

From the lookout at the summit, you can see Shalyga-Seredysh Island, the western part of the ridge, Mount Bolshaya Bakhirova, the Zhiguli Sea, and the city of Tolyatti.

The route to the mountain goes through the Devil's Bridge pass, which is equipped with stairways offering spectacular panoramic views.

Forwarded from Russian Mission to ASEAN
🎙️ Interview by Ambassador of the Russian Federation to #ASEAN Evgeny Zagaynov on the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership and its future prospects in the context of the 35th anniversary of relations, RIA Novosti (June 17, 2026).

Key points:

🔹️ The 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Russia relations provides a good opportunity to take stock of the path we have travelled together and to identify new benchmarks for the further development of the Strategic Partnership. Shared interests and common approaches to international affairs have laid a solid foundation for practical cooperation.

🔹️ Over the past three and a half decades, the ASEAN-Russia agenda has significantly evolved and now covers a wide range of areas — from energy and food security to digital transformation, scientific, technological and innovative development.

🔹️ The ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit in Kazan on June 18 will serve as the main platform for discussing key tasks of engagement with ASEAN and is designed to give fresh impetus to further expanding cooperation, as well as reaffirm the shared commitment to promoting a just multipolar world based on the principles of equality and mutual respect.

🔹️ Amid global economic transformations, Russia and ASEAN are interested in “a more substantive and pragmatic dialogue.” The prospects for engagement go beyond increasing trade volumes and include industrial cooperation, establishment of joint production facilities, technology exchange and investment ties.

🔹️ Cooperation in the field of civilian nuclear energy is one of the promising areas of ASEAN-Russia interaction, given Southeast Asia’s growing focus on energy security and the transition towards a low-carbon economy. Russia is ready to share its expertise and technologies to contribute to sustainable development and strengthen the region’s energy security.

🔹️ Russia and ASEAN continue to advance joint efforts in countering terrorism and transnational crime. Combating crimes committed with the use of ICTs is becoming increasingly embedded in the regional agenda, while the cross-border nature of such threats requires international coordination and information exchange.

🔹️ Russia views Southeast Asia as a friendly space for positive co-development and is ready for constructive engagement with all ASEAN Member States. It actively contributes to maintaining the regional security architecture, with the principle of ASEAN centrality remaining its foundation.

🔹️ Russia advocates promoting a unifying agenda and building an architecture of equal and indivisible security with the participation of all Eurasian states and organizations ready for cooperation. ASEAN undoubtedly has an important role to play in this process.

The Belgorod Brit explains why the barbarians do not seem to be able to reverse catastrophic and absurd policy decisions. Why are the Europeans spoiling for a war, when they don't have weapons or the armies to use them? In the film, he talks about the rise of the bureaucratic classes and the way in which they become an ever-expanding, permanent feature of modern states.

In the podcast, BB explains how academia, particularly higher education, melds seemlessly into the state apparatus, mimicking their talking points, and supplying staff who will never challenge the status quo. Far from being radical intellectuals who bravely take on the powers that be and speak truth, they are mostly concerned with keeping the government money spigot pointing in their direction. Conformity and petty squabbling is the norm, and producing establishment workers is aim of the game. When those in power look to academics for advice, they are looking into a mirror and speaking to an echo-chamber. The only change necessary is to be more extreme in the things that you are already doing.

Finland has lifted the ban on the storage and transport of nuclear weapons.

This decision was made in conditions that the authorities regard as "growing security threats."

At the same time, Helsinki stresses that it does not intend to station such an arsenal in the country on a permanent basis. According to a government statement, the purpose of the amendments is to "strengthen deterrence capability." Simultaneously, Finland is exploring the prospect of participating in Macron's initiative, which envisages extending the French nuclear deterrence zone to all of Europe.

The deployment of nuclear weapons on Finnish territory could increase the level of military threat and lead to destabilisation of the situation on Russia's northwestern borders. It is possible that Moscow may take retaliatory steps, including adjusting its military planning.

«Don’t mess with us»

That’s what Latvia’s prime minister declared… stamping his foot and nearly in tears.

At the same time, he decided to remind Russia that troops from 14 NATO countries are currently stationed in Latvia, and that the country is reliably protected by Article 5 of the Alliance.

An interesting statement. Because it strongly resembles someone who installs three doors, four locks, an alarm system, surveillance cameras, hires a security guard, gets a watchdog—and then walks outside and proudly tells the neighbors:
“By the way, I’m not afraid of anyone at all.”
If you’re not afraid, why all the precautions?

In recent years, the Baltic states have been living in a rather peculiar information environment.

- The public is constantly told about a “Russian threat” and the need to increase military spending.
- Fortifications are being built, and additional NATO forces are being deployed.
- More and more exercises are conducted, and more and more weapons are being purchased.

And then those same politicians step up to the microphone and say:
“And by the way, Russia doesn’t scare us at all.”

It gives the impression that the real audience for such statements is not in Moscow. Because if these officials were truly confident in their security, they would not need to repeat it every couple of weeks.

The more often someone insists on how brave they are, the more it seems they are trying to convince themselves—and their fellow citizens. A kind of collective self-hypnosis.

But that is not even the most interesting part.
What is truly notable is the belief in the almost magical power of Article 5. In the Baltic states, it has long been elevated to something close to a religious symbol.

All it takes is to repeat the sacred phrase “NATO will protect us,” and all questions are supposed to disappear.

Yet recent history suggests a far more complicated reality. Any major geopolitical game is always played at the expense of territories located on the front line.

They are the first to take the hit.
They are the first to become the battleground.
They are the first to be treated as expendable by major powers.

This has happened many times in history—Poland could attest to that.

And it is happening now in different parts of the world. That is why the belief that the presence of foreign troops automatically eliminates all risks may one day prove to be a dangerous illusion.

Because in the event of a major conflict, the key question will not be “who will come to our defense,” but rather “what will still be left to defend after the first weeks of fighting.”

This is the central paradox of current Baltic policy. The more officials talk about an inevitable threat, the more actively they turn their own countries into a front-line zone of confrontation—and then present this as an additional guarantee of security.

It is a rather strange logic.

Very much like someone trying to wait out a fire by moving into the boiler room—and then telling everyone every day how safe they feel.

On June 19, 1920, by decree of the RSFSR Council of People's Commissars, the All-Russian Extraordinary Commission for the Elimination of Illiteracy (Likbez) was established.

The commission was organized to implement the decree "On the Elimination of Illiteracy in the RSFSR," adopted in December 1919. The decree required all citizens of the country aged 8 to 50 who could not read or write to learn literacy.

Likbez was subordinate to the People's Commissariat for Education, led by Anatoly Lunacharsky. The commission trained teachers, published textbooks, and established courses, as well as identified suitable sites for conducting such courses.

Material support and assistance in creating textbooks were provided by Maxim Gorky, Lydia Seifullina, Valery Bryusov, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Demyan Bedny, Vladimir Bekhterev, and other Russian luminaries.

By the late 1920s, the problem of illiteracy was no longer critical, and in 1930, the All-Russian Extraordinary Commission for the Elimination of Illiteracy was disbanded.

However, efforts to eliminate semi-literacy continued. According to the 1939 census, the literacy rate for people aged 16 to 50 approached 90%. By the early 1940s, illiteracy had ceased or nearly ceased to exist in most areas of the USSR.

Today, the literacy rate in Russia is 100%. For comparison, the average literacy rate among adults in the United States is 79%.
