The who found adenosine triphosphate as an energy source in the cell, who synthesized folic acid and developed methotrexate, an anti-cancer drug, never pushed himself into the glare of publicity. As director of research his name should have been at least at the top of the team. But it often came way down in alphabetical order. Neither the status of an Indian in early 20th century USA nor the demands of applied research stained the scholastic integrity of SubbaRow. Such was the strength of his moral fibre a strength which distinguished his personal and his professional life.

Marie Sklodovska was born in Poland at a time when women were not allowed admission into colleges. Determined to study science, Marie worked as a governess and saved enough to enroll in a university in Paris.
It was in Paris that she met and married Pierre Curie, a respected physicist.
