Just as the "black box" is indispensable to aviation safety, the Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) serves as the maritime equivalent, a critical device systematically recording a vessel's operational data. From navigational status to communications, the VDR captures a wealth of information, proving invaluable in the aftermath of an incident at sea. Its role is pivotal in marine safety, aiding investigations, fostering transparency, and championing best practices. New VDRs must now be fitted with both fixed and float-free recording media (capsules), each retaining the last 48 hours of data. This dual-capsule approach significantly increases the likelihood of data recovery even in severe accidents involving sinking or fire. #VDR #OCIMF
