Security: Illegal boarding – theft while the vessel at anchor What happened? An intruder armed with a knife boarded a vessel at anchor in Luanda, Angola. The intruder was discovered during the hours of darkness when a member of the crew was conducting a security patrol. An unidentified individual was observed on the starboard side of B-deck. The crew member immediately reported the sighting to the bridge and the alarm was raised, alerting others to the presence of the intruder who was armed with a knife. This video shows how to calculate the number of shackles to be dropped when dropping a ship's anchor. It includes determining the number of shackles that have been dropped by reading the markings on the anchor chain. The calculations are just a reference. There are other methods of calculations and you can use the method you are familiar with. A ship's anchor is a heavy device typically made of metal that is used to secure a vessel in place by gripping the seabed. Anchors are crucial maritime equipment for ships of all sizes, ranging from small boats to large ocean-going vessels. They are essential for various maritime operations, including anchoring in ports, harbors, and offshore locations, as well as during emergency situations or when conducting maintenance activities. #Anchorage #Anchor #Shackles #Calculation

This video shows how to calculate the ship's swing radius when she is anchored. It includes several reasons why we need to calculate and determine the ship's drag circle while at anchor.
The ship's swing radius when anchored refers to the circular area or distance around a vessel within which it can swing or rotate while anchored. When a ship drops anchor, it is subject to the forces of wind, current, and tide, causing it to pivot around its anchor point. The swing radius is the maximum distance that the vessel can swing in any direction from its anchored position without encountering obstacles or other vessels. #Anchorage #SwingRadius #Calculation
