⚡️ #JUST_IN Apple sues OpenAI over leaked hardware secrets

Apple has officially filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and one of its lead engineers, alleging the theft of confidential device documentation and trade secrets. This legal battle centers on claims that former staff took proprietary data to help build the AI hardware projects now being pushed by OpenAI.

The lawsuit claims that internal plans were used to gain an unfair advantage in the development of new AI technologies.

Previously, Apple kept its hardware research locked away behind strict internal security protocols. Now, the company is fighting to stop these sensitive blueprints from being used by competitors. For the engineers involved, this means a massive legal headache. For users, it highlights how intense the race for AI dominance has become between these tech giants.

OpenAI and Work Louder have launched the Codex Micro keyboard for $230. 🚀

This device is made to control autonomous AI agents—programs that perform tasks like writing code on their own. The keyboard includes a control dial and status lights that glow to show what the AI is doing right now. The first batch of these units sold out in under 24 hours.

Looking further ahead, OpenAI is working on a new screenless AI speaker. This device will be able to move and is expected to arrive in 2027.

For a regular user, this is a shift toward physical controls for software. Instead of clicking on a screen, you manage complex automated work with a dedicated knob and lights, making the invisible progress of AI agents feel tangible.

OpenAI to Build a 3.2-gigawatt Data Center in Georgia

Georgia Power, a subsidiary of Southern Co., has signed a 25-year agreement to supply electricity to a new 3.2-gigawatt data center for OpenAI. The facility, which is set to begin operations in 2028, will be located in Effingham County near Savannah, Georgia.

This project is a key addition to Southern Co.'s portfolio, which has seen its total contracted large power load grow to 17 GW since early 2026. To maintain grid reliability, the contract includes 1,000 megawatts of flexible demand response. This allows the utility to reduce power delivery to the site during periods of peak demand, a provision the company has not previously established with a data center customer.

The project represents an investment of $20 billion. Unlike typical industrial developments where local utilities must fund infrastructure upgrades, OpenAI has agreed to cover the full cost of the necessary electric work, which is intended to protect other customers from potential rate increases.

The facility can draw as much electricity as a small city, unless the grid needs it back.

OpenAI claims solution to the Navier-Stokes challenge

OpenAI has published a formal proof for the Navier-Stokes existence and smoothness problem, a major math puzzle related to how fluids flow, which carries a 1 million dollar prize from the Clay Mathematics Institute.

The work relied on massive resources:
➖ 10,000 AI agents working in sync.
➖ 88 total hours of computation.
➖ $22.5 million spent in processing costs.

Twenty-five Fields Medalists now protest, condemning how research labs prioritize speed over traditional academic standards. Tristan Buckmaster of New York University and Levent Alpöge of Anthropic had been developing their own approach to this problem. Sébastien Bubeck from OpenAI allegedly pressured researchers to exclude Alpöge due to his ties with Anthropic.

OpenAI began this specific project on September 1st, shortly after rumors circulated that a solution was near.

Unitree G1 robot cleans rooms with GPT-6 Astra

Stanford and Caltech researchers successfully used GPT-6 Astra to guide a Unitree G1 humanoid robot through an unfamiliar kitchen. 🤖

The robot operates via the HomeBody architecture. This setup allows the OpenAI model to trigger physical skills, like grabbing items or navigating, without relying on traditional, complex control layers. It translates simple language instructions directly into movement. 🏠

Unlike Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5.1, which is the current reference point for coding and agent work, GPT-6 Astra is built to handle direct hardware manipulation. This release replaces OpenAI’s previous GPT-5.6 Sol flagship as the top model for reasoning and computer-aided tasks. 🚀

Language model drives a real car through a drive-thru

Three engineers at Axiom hooked OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra—a model built for text and code—to the steering and cameras of a 2024 Toyota Corolla, letting the AI navigate a California drive-thru and complete a cone course in 5 minutes and 22 seconds. 🚗

You might expect only specialized software to drive, but the team wanted to test how well text models handle the physical world. The AI made decisions in real time using ongoing chat commands while a human kept a foot over the brake. 🤖

In a closed parking lot test against other systems, GPT-6 Astra reached 100% of the course, while rival models like Claude Fable 5.1 reached 45% and Grok stopped at 11%.
