Kerala CM #PinarayiVijayan, who has kept the State #CPM unit in a vice-like grip since becoming party secretary in 1998, continues to enjoy unquestioned leadership within the party apparatus, said political observers.

#KeralaElections: #Congress releases second list of 37 candidates; no seat for K Sudhakaran

Three seats — Ambalappuzha, Payyanoor and Ottappalam — where the party is expected to support independents, have been left vacant. Former #CPM leaders G Sudhakaran, V Kunhikrishnan and PK Sasi are expected to contest from these seats.

#KeralaElections | A detailed analysis shows the ruling Left front enjoys considerable backing in close to 35% of seats while the opposition front can claim similar dominance in only about half.

Of the 140 seats that go into polls, a large chunk of 51 seats have remained with the #LDF in all three elections—2011, 2016 and 2021. Of these, #CPM holds considerable sway in 39 seats, while 12 remain #CPI fortresses.

1996, it must be remembered, was the year when the #CPM leadership came in the way of Jyoti Basu accepting the Prime Ministership at the Centre. In #Kerala, factionalism would rear its head and tear #Achuthanandan's Chief Ministerial ambitions to shreds. That the then 72-year-old leader had no inkling of what was brewing till the very end made the sting of betrayal all the more painful for him.

#KeralaElections | Close to four decades after his death, the memories of volleyball icon hashtag#JimmyGeorge continue to reverberate in the hills of hashtag#Kerala's Peravoor, which is now witness to a clash of titans. Little wonder that hashtag#CPM's star candidate KK Shailaja promised a National Sports Academy here, while KPCC president and hashtag#UDF candidate Sunny Joseph chose to blame ten years of Pinarayi rule for the delay in completion of the stadium.

"When people have given the mandate, why should we resign from 108 seats and contest again in the same constituencies."

Amid speculation that #TVK’s 107 MLAs would resign en masse if the AIADMK and DMK combine to stake claim to form the government, TVK functionaries told TNIE that no such decision has been discussed within the party.

Speaking to TNIE, a senior TVK leader said the party is currently exploring possibilities of staking claim to form the government.

"We are only exploring two things for now. We have sought the support of the #VCK, #CPI and #CPM, whose combined seat strength of six will be enough for us to reach the majority mark of 118. In parallel, we are exploring legal possibilities to approach the court to direct the Governor to allow swearing in and prove the majority on the floor of the Assembly," the senior leader said.

"People have voted against #AIADMK and #DMK. Hence, it will be against the mandate to run the Government with their support", #CPM state secretary P Shanmugam said.

"We hope #TVK will not take such a decision (to accommodate AIADMK in the ministry). If they seek such support, we will reconsider our decision (to support)," he added.

A miscalculated impact of raids on former #Kerala Chief Minister #PinarayiVijayan?

“However, what they failed to realise is that, in times of attack against the party and its leadership, the #CPM naturally functions as a united force.”

After #LDF's crushing defeat in the recent assembly elections, the CPM was grappling with internal discontent, with criticism indirectly directed at Pinarayi Vijayan during election review meetings at lower committees.

However, the raids on the former CM's houses have transformed him from a poll villain into a rallying point for the CPM. Take a look on how all this happened:
